Chapter 118 Mountain Guard
Chapter 118 Mountain Guard
"Everyone, follow closely and watch your step!"
Mona gave instructions to everyone, holding Mengmeng's hand and following behind Baichen. Bixi protected the mother and daughter and walked behind.
With the help of flashlights, everyone moved forward cautiously. Sure enough, under Zhuzhu's command, everyone reached the depths of the cave safely.
This is a spacious cave, very damp inside, with smooth walls all around, and it looks like the nest of some animal.
In the center of the cave, there is a huge stone platform, on which is placed a bead emitting a faint light.
The cute baby excitedly jumped onto the stone platform and picked up the beads, but at this moment, the cave began to shake violently.
"No, run away!"
Bai Chen yelled, pulled up Mona, Bixi hugged Mengmeng and ran towards the cave entrance. A huge rock fell down, blocking their way.
"What should we do? We are trapped!"
Mona said anxiously. Bai Chen looked around and found some strange symbols on the fallen stones. He thought that perhaps these symbols were the key to leaving here.
"This cave is truly bizarre. It seems alive, intentionally isolating them from the outside. Leaving the four of us behind must have a deeper meaning! Everyone gather together and be careful!"
Bai Chen carefully observed the symbols, trying to decipher their patterns, while Mona and Bixi tightly protected Meng Meng and vigilantly observed the movements around them.
Suddenly, Bai Chen seemed to have an idea. He took out his dagger and carved several identical symbols on the stone wall. A moment later, a low sound was heard, and the boulder began to slowly move, revealing a passage.
"Let's go!" Bai Chen led everyone into the passage. The vibration in the cave became stronger and stronger, as if urging them to leave quickly.
They ran along the passage until they finally saw a ray of light. The exit was just ahead!
When they stepped out of the cave, it was already early morning outside. The sun shone on the earth, making people feel extremely warm.
"It's finally out..." Mona breathed a sigh of relief, and Mengmeng looked around curiously in her arms.
"Isn't this our East Continent? What is this place?"
Mona was curious and surprised. Baichen and Bixi also looked around. What unfolded before them was an unfamiliar scene. There were rolling mountains and rivers, dense forests, and the air was filled with a fresh scent.
"This seems to be a completely new area." Bai Chen frowned slightly, his heart full of doubts.
"We have to find the way back first." Mona said, looking into the distance.
The four of them began to move towards the sun, hoping to find people or a familiar path.
On the way, they encountered various strange creatures, some shaped like giant pythons, some like unicorns, and some fire-breathing birds. Fortunately, these creatures did not attack them, but just looked at them curiously.
Mengmeng was curious about everything and kept asking questions, while Baichen and Bixi remained alert and carefully escorted Mona and Mengmeng.
After climbing over a mountain, they came across a river with clear water and fish playing in it.
"Maybe if we follow the river, we can find a way out," Bai Chen suggested.
So, they walked along the riverbank, hoping to return to the East Continent soon. As they walked, they found a small house by the river that looked inhabited. Mona knocked on the door, but no one answered. When she opened it, the house was empty, but it had everything she needed for daily life.
"It seems the master just went out." Bai Chen said, checking the room, "We can rest here for a while."
The exhausted group decided to rest in the cabin for the night before setting off again. Mengmeng fell asleep early that night, while Baichen and Bixi stayed at the door. But Mona couldn't sleep at all, feeling that there was something strange about this place.
Suddenly, there were footsteps outside, followed by the creaking of the door. Bai Chen and Bi Xi immediately became alert. The door opened, and a strange man walked in. He was obviously surprised to see the people in the room.
"Who are you? Why are you here?"
"Sorry to bother you. My family and I fell into a cave while hunting. We were trying to find our way back and ended up here. I'm wondering what this place is? What tribe are you from?"
Bai Chen answered evasively and asked the other party a series of questions.
"I'm the mountain keeper here. Where did you fall in from?"
The mountain guard asked doubtfully, his eyes moving back and forth between the four people.
"We fell from a cave on the mountain and accidentally stepped on a trap. We narrowly escaped death and finally got here. No one lives here except your house. My partner and cub were frightened and wanted to rest here for a while. I didn't expect to occupy your place. Sorry to bother you. We'll leave now."
After Bai Chen finished speaking, he picked up the cute baby, signaled Bixi to support Mona, and prepared to leave the straw house.
"Wait, you don't look like bad orcs. You really care about your mate and cubs. Rest here today and find your way home tomorrow!"
"Thank you! Thank you!" At night, everyone rested in the hut. Mengmeng had already fallen asleep, Baichen and Bixi were guarding the door, but Mona still couldn't fall asleep.
She always felt that this place was full of mystery, especially the sudden appearance of the mountain guard, which made her even more suspicious.
Mona tossed and turned, finally getting up and going to the window. She stared out into the darkness, thinking silently. Suddenly, she sensed a strange presence, as if a pair of eyes were watching them from the shadows.
She looked back nervously at the sleeping Mengmeng, then looked at Baichen and Bixi at the door, and decided to go out and check what was going on.
Mona cautiously pushed open the door and stepped into the darkness. Relying on her keen intuition, she walked in the direction of the abnormal sensation.
In the woods not far from the cabin, Mona spotted a figure. As she got closer, she saw it was the mountain ranger. He stood there quietly, his eyes coldly gazing at Mona.
"What are you doing here?" Mona asked warily.
The mountain guard was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "This place is not peaceful. You'd better leave as soon as possible."
Mona's heart tightened. "What do you mean? Why are you telling us this?"
The mountain guard sighed and said, "I don't want to see innocent lives harmed. There is a huge secret hidden here that you cannot bear."
Mona frowned in thought, realizing that things were more complicated than they had imagined. "Can you help us? We just want to return to our home."
The mountain guard shook his head: "I can only give you some warnings, the rest is up to you. But you have to be careful..." His words stopped abruptly, as if he had some concerns.
Mona wanted to ask more questions, but the mountain guard had already turned and left, disappearing into the night.
Mona returned to the hut with a heavy heart and told Baichen and Bixi what the mountain guard had said. They were also deeply disturbed, but they decided to follow the mountain guard's advice and set out at dawn to find a way home.
