Chapter 570 Acting Skills

Chapter 570 Acting Skills

Wei Xi felt a surge of misfortune and mentally tortured Yu Jin.

What does "pointing to this place as death" mean? It's clearly that this guy is not skilled enough and still wants to put the blame for being unlucky on her head!

Otherwise, why didn't these townspeople look at him like that yesterday?

Now that things had come to this, Wei Xi could only pretend that he hadn't noticed anything and brace himself to try to pass through the townspeople.

Yes, a large number of townspeople blocked the not-so-wide main street of Hulu Town, clearly not wanting anyone to pass easily.

Hulu Town remained as desolate as ever, which only made the current scene seem even more eerie.

Unfortunately, there was no better way than to force his way in: Wei Xi didn't want to reveal his identity under the watchful eyes of everyone.

Besides, the road is only so wide, so even if Wei Xi had a hundred reasons to resist, he had no choice but to deal with these townspeople.

Wei Xi shuffled forward two steps, pleading, "Gentlemen, could you please let this widow pass through? My two children really can't stay outside the city any longer. Please, have mercy and let us come in!"

Seeing that Wei Xi's expression and tone were flawless, Yu Jin was greatly encouraged. He immersed himself in playing the role of a frightened and hungry child, following closely behind Wei Xi. He even reached out his little hand to grab the hem of his "mother's" clothes and sobbed occasionally.

Coupled with her stiff, unresponsive speech, anyone would guess that this was a mother and her two children with nowhere else to turn.

The townspeople were not as warm and hospitable as they had been the day before: there were no muffled voices, only silent stares, as if they wanted to peel the three of them off alive, which made Wei Xi feel a chill run down his spine.

To be honest, within a few breaths, Wei Xi's mind had already gone through two rounds of flashbacks.

Even so, Wei Xi couldn't recall ever offending these inhuman, ghostly creatures.

This further solidified Wei Xi's belief that the townspeople were after the embers.

On the one hand, it's because Yu Jin is a disciple of the Heaven and Earth Sect, a very mysterious sect. Outsiders only know that they have profound skills, can see into the heavens, and often walk by the river. This kid might have provoked something extraordinary. On the other hand, it's because his appearance was too coincidental. Knowing there are tigers in the mountains, yet still heading towards them, now seems more like he's looking for someone to share the risk with.

Of course, these are all just speculations in Wei's mind. After all, the deep and complicated emotions in the eyes of the townspeople are really uncomfortable.

“Yu Jin is about my age. Where could he find such a sincere and affectionate old friend?”

According to Granny Tang, she has nearly seventy years of memories. Even if she didn't hit the guess that Wei Xi was most unwilling to admit, the "people" at the foot of Dieji Mountain have existed for at least seventy years.

To be frank, if Yu Jin's great-grandmother from seventy years ago were alive today, she would probably have to call Wei Xi "sister."

Not to mention that if it really is a fifty-year cycle, these townspeople are the oldest monsters among monsters. Where would Yu Jin have any enmity with these "people"?

"Should we look for another way out?" Wei Xi thought to himself. "If we encounter any lone townspeople, we can capture them and torture them for research."

Before Wei Xi could leave with regret, the townspeople blocking the front slowly made way, and the remaining townspeople also reluctantly made way for the narrow path.

Calling that road a narrow, winding path would be an exaggeration; even Wei Xi, with his slender and tall frame, had to squeeze through sideways.

Wei Xi felt a chill run down his spine, wondering if he could escape in time.

Ultimately, the teachings of the Qingcheng Sect prevailed. Wei Xi exerted a slight force with his hand hidden under his sleeve, and E Qiyu struggled like a fish being dragged ashore.

"Son! My son!" Wei Xi turned around abruptly, rushed to E Qiyu's side, and cried out, "You still care about Yufen? It was my fault, I'll take you back now and collect your daughter-in-law's remains!"

Wei Xi could spout such lies so easily, and the key was that he spoke with such emotion that it didn't seem fake.

Yu Jin was also clever; he immediately burst into tears, calling out "Mother" and "Brother" repeatedly.

Just as Wei Xi was about to leave, he heard the sound of an arrow piercing the air. Almost instinctively, Wei Xi kicked away the still wailing Yu Jin, then rolled to the side, using his arm to forcefully pull E Qi Yu away from her original position.

The arrow was stuck in the ground, penetrating more than half an inch deep. Immediately afterwards, the surrounding stone slabs shattered and the ground collapsed.

If that nail were nailed to his body, Wei Xi didn't think his bones were that hard.

"Cai Xin, you're insane! We only have one Bodhi Arrow!"

"Tsk," a hoarse male voice came from the town's group, "Haven't we found the real culprit?"

"Wei Xi, we've been waiting for you in this godforsaken place for thousands of years, why don't you recognize us?"

Completely bewildered, Wei Xi looked up and saw a man dressed in plain hemp clothing walk out from the town's procession. He was about twenty years old, quite handsome, and carried a strong bow in his left hand. His dark eyes were fixed on her.

Wei Xi was certain that he had never seen this person before, and he had no idea why this vegetable harbored such intense hatred towards him.

"Then you shouldn't have either."

Cai Xin raised his hand and fired another arrow, piercing right through the town man who was condemning him.

"You bastard!" the woman gritted her teeth and said, "Have you lost your mind! I just changed into these clothes, and now they're stained with blood? Are you going to wash them for me?"

As the woman spoke, she pulled the arrow out of her flesh, and dark purple blood gushed from the wound, quickly pooling at her feet.

“You really don’t learn your lesson,” Cai Xin said with a forced smile. “Lord Wei has wronged you so much, and you still eagerly put on new clothes to see her. Si Zhenniang, you really are Wei Xi’s most loyal dog.”

Loud laughter erupted from the townspeople's group, and a few looked displeased.

Si Zhenniang sneered, then threw the arrow she had just pulled out at Cai Xin's face.

"Pah, Cai Xin, you're having a good time cursing now, but who among us hasn't had some kind of entanglement with Wei Xi? I'm her pet dog, and what are you? A dog that was abandoned?"

Another burst of cheerful laughter erupted from the crowd, and someone shouted, "You know what, when Cai Xin was alive, wasn't he captured and forced to breed with demonic beasts? Who knows, he might have really been a dog!"

"I heard that Wei Xi was rescued from the Yun family's beast prison. No wonder the monsters were so friendly to him!"

"Isn't Zhu Yu also a demon beast? No wonder the Bodhi Arrow was entrusted to him for safekeeping!"

Wei Xi was completely bewildered. Why did every word they said seem to relate to something he had done before?

This is bizarre! When did she ever meet these people?

"Fellow Daoist Wei," Yu Jin whispered, "Do you know these people?"

Wei Xi lovingly stroked Yu Jin's temples, choking back tears as she said, "Child, were you also terrified?"

Upon hearing this, the townspeople fell silent for a moment, then burst into laughter that pierced the sky.

“It’s true what they say, old habits die hard,” Cai Xin said with a laugh. “So many years have passed, and you haven’t changed at all. You’re still a liar.”

"Still unrepentant!" (End of Chapter)
