Chapter 1031 Holiday Hotel Check-in
Chapter 1031 Holiday Hotel Check-in
He Yanzu got out of the taxi, carrying a small suitcase, and walked into the Holiday Inn opposite Fengteng International.
As soon as I arrived at the door, a uniformed doorman quickly came to greet me: "Sir, are you here for a meal or to check in?"
"Check-in." As soon as Daniel Ho finished speaking, the doorman took the suitcase from his hand and gestured for him to go to the front desk.
"Check this gentleman in," the doorman said crisply and clearly.
Daniel Ho took out his ID from his inner pocket and handed it over; the receptionist handled it deftly.
He quickly handed over the room key: "Sir, here is your room key. We hope you have a pleasant stay."
The doorman took the room key and led the way with a smile: "Sir, this way please."
Once inside the elevator, he sized up He Yanzu and casually asked, "You're not from Kunming, are you? Is this your first time here?"
"Yes," He Yanzu nodded, "I came to see my nephew. He's looking for work here. I wonder how it's going?"
"Your nephew will definitely remember the old gentleman's kindness," the doorman replied with a smile. "It's his good fortune to be remembered like this by his elders!"
"Are you also here in Kunming to work?" He Yanzu asked in return.
The elevator dinged as it arrived at the floor, and the doorman stepped aside to guide us: "Yes, I came here from the countryside to study at university, and I come here in my spare time to earn some living expenses."
The door clicked open, and the doorman stepped aside to let Daniel Ho in, casually inserting the room key into the slot; the lights inside instantly turned on.
The doorman placed the box on the coffee table: "Sir, please rest. Call me anytime if you need anything. The room key is in the entryway."
He Yanzu's gaze swept over the tidy room, and he took out five hundred yuan from his pocket and handed it over: "Tip. I'll call you when I need you. What's your name?"
"Thank you, sir! My name is Men Yufan, you can just call me Afan." Men Yufan bowed, took three steps back, turned around and closed the door, and the room immediately became quiet.
He Yanzu sat down on the sofa and took out his phone—he had gotten Gu Ze and Feng Tao's phone numbers from Qin Wanyu last night.
He eagerly dialed Feng Tao's number, but it was hung up after two rings. He dialed again, but it was busy again.
In the distance, on the film set, a light drizzle fell.
Gu Ze, dressed in white, plays Bai Ze. He stands in the rain, acting out a drinking scene, his lines drifting over with the sound of the rain.
Feng Tao was adding hot water to Gu Ze's thermos when he saw the unfamiliar number light up again.
He hung up impatiently, threw the phone on the table, turned around and looked at the film set, hoping that the scene would be filmed quickly so that Gu Ze could come back and have a hot drink.
In his hotel room, Daniel He looked at the two rejected call logs and helplessly typed a text message:
"Third Young Master, this is Butler He Yanzu. Please reply to this message. I am staying at the Kuncheng Holiday Hotel and have urgent business with you."
After pressing the send button, he placed his phone on the coffee table, picked up the box, opened it, took out his loungewear, and frowned.
After sending the message, Daniel Ho waited for a while but received no reply. He then got up, took his pajamas, and headed to the bathroom.
Hot water gushed out, and steam gradually rose, but it couldn't dispel the anxiety between his brows.
On set, Feng Tao stood on tiptoe, looking in the direction Gu Ze was filming, when he suddenly heard the director shout through a megaphone:
"Cut! That's a good take! That's a wrap! This awful weather is freezing, everyone should head home and rest! We'll meet at the film and television town tomorrow morning."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Gu Ze, dressed in soaking wet white clothes, walked toward the tent in the rain.
Feng Tao quickly went to meet him, slapped the dry towel in his hand over his face, and shouted irritably to the side as he wiped him:
"Can you guys hurry up? Come over here and remove Gu Ze's makeup! If he catches a cold, can you take responsibility for that?"
Three makeup artists hurriedly agreed, jogging over through the mud, their shoes splattering mud everywhere.
As soon as they entered the tent, they swarmed around, grabbing makeup remover pads and soaking them in makeup remover, busily getting to work.
Feng Tao unscrewed the thermos and handed the hot water to Gu Ze's lips: "Quickly drink some hot water to warm your stomach."
I'll make you some ginger and chicken soup when we get home tonight. It's so cold and rainy; you don't want to catch a cold.
Gu Ze took the cup, his fingertips slightly red from the cold. He drank two sips of hot water, feeling the warmth flow down his throat, before asking in a hoarse voice, "When is the next scene filmed?"
"Meet at the film and television town at 10 a.m. tomorrow," Feng Tao said, tucking the blanket draped over his shoulders. "Get a good rest tonight and don't think about anything."
The makeup removal was completed quickly, and Feng Tao handed over the prepared clothes: "Quickly, take off your costume and change into your cotton-padded clothes."
The three of them helped Gu Ze untie his complicated sash, and he deftly removed his ancient costume.
Feng Tao handed him the sweater, which Gu Ze pulled over his head and put on, then wrapped himself tightly in a thick cotton coat.
"Wait a minute, I'll put my things in the car first, then I'll come pick you up," Feng Tao said, turning and walking away.
Gu Ze didn't respond, but just hunched his neck, cupped his hands around his mouth and breathed on them, his fingertips still chilled from the rain.
The three makeup artists packed up their tools and handed the phone to Gu Ze: "This is Assistant Feng's phone, take it; the three of us will be leaving now, see you tomorrow morning."
"Bye-bye, be careful on the road," Gu Ze instructed.
"Okay, bye-bye." The three waved and left, stepping through the mud.
Gu Ze looked down at his phone and noticed several unread messages on the screen.
Driven by curiosity, he slowly clicked on the link, and the text message from Daniel Ho immediately caught his eye:
"Third Young Master, this is Butler He Yanzu. Please reply to this message. I am staying at the Kuncheng Holiday Hotel and have urgent business with you."
Just as he finished reading, Feng Tao ran back with an umbrella: "Are you frozen stiff? Grab your things and leave."
The two carried two bags and walked side by side under one umbrella toward the van.
After settling Gu Ze in, Feng Tao got into the car, started the engine, and the car slowly drove away from the film set.
The windshield wipers moved steadily across the glass when Gu Ze suddenly spoke up: "Feng Tao, you have a message from Butler He on your phone."
He's at the Holiday Inn right now and says he needs to see you urgently. Should we go see him right away?
Feng Tao scoffed, his tone impatient: "Good things never come my way."
"I'll take you home first so you can take a hot shower, and then I'll make you some ginger soup to warm you up. The important thing is to focus on filming tomorrow."
"What if something really happened at home?" Gu Ze asked tentatively, "Don't you... want to go back and see Chairman Feng?"
"If he really cared about me, he wouldn't have left you, who was so young, to me back then, and made me single-handedly raise you into the top-tier artist you are today."
If I had any connections and resources, I wouldn't be struggling for so many years and still living under someone else's roof.
Feng Tao's voice turned cold, carrying a chill that had been building up for years, "When those two brothers, the Governor of Hong Kong, were forcing us..."
He has connections everywhere and knows every nook and cranny of the news. How could he not know my situation?
We're only getting a breather now thanks to Master Jing's protection, and he suddenly wants to contact me? What urgent matter could he possibly have? What a joke.
Silence fell over the carriage, broken only by the sound of raindrops hitting the windows. Gu Ze watched the street scenes rushing past the window, his fingers unconsciously tracing the edge of his phone.
He knew what was bothering Feng Tao, but Butler He Yanzu was always calm and collected, and would never come looking for him unless absolutely necessary...
"The rain seems to have lessened a bit," Gu Ze suddenly said. "The Holiday Inn isn't far from here, is it?"
"Taking a detour to check won't cause any trouble. What if he really has something important to tell us?"
Feng Tao tightened his grip on the steering wheel, and after a moment, suddenly turned on the turn signal:
"You are my lifeline. Everything else is irrelevant. Let's go home."
Feng Tao parked the car steadily in front of the Fengteng International Private Apartment building, turned to Gu Ze and said:
"Go inside quickly, take a hot shower upstairs, and I'll go in and cook for you right away."
Looking at Feng Tao's tense profile, Gu Ze knew that the resentment in his heart had not yet dissipated.
He didn't mention Daniel Ho again, just nodded, got out of the car, and went straight into the apartment building, heading upstairs to his bedroom.
The bathroom was quickly filled with hot water. Gu Ze took off his clothes and slowly sank into the bathtub.
The warmth instantly enveloped his icy body, and he closed his eyes, letting out a long sigh of relief.
But his mind kept churning—over the years, Feng Tao had treated him like a brother and a father.
He had protected him since he was a naive teenager, and now he owed all his achievements to Feng Tao's painstaking efforts.
Feng Tao knew better than anyone else what was troubling him, but He Yanzu's sudden visit might not be without important business.
After thinking it over, Gu Ze reached for his phone, which was lying on the edge of the bathtub, and opened his contacts.
After finding the two missed calls that Feng Tao had hung up on, I hesitated for a moment, but finally dialed them back.
The phone rang a few times before being answered quickly. He Yanzu's voice, tinged with urgency, came through: "Hello? Is this the Third Young Master?"
"Butler He, this is Gu Ze." Gu Ze's voice sounded somewhat muffled through the sound of water.
"Feng Tao... can't leave for the time being. Are you currently staying at the Holiday Inn?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone before He Yanzu's deep voice came through: "Yes, Gu Ze... I..."
After a long pause on the other end of the phone, unsure of where to begin, Gu Ze asked again with trepidation, "How is Chairman Feng?"
He Yanzu's eyes instantly welled up with tears. He sniffed and said, "I'm looking for the Third Young Master because of Chairman Feng, and... some changes at the Feng family manor. It's best to tell him in person."
Gu Ze's heart tightened, and he sat up straight, asking, "What happened to Chairman Feng?"
“It’s hard to explain over the phone,” Daniel Ho’s voice was filled with barely concealed anxiety. “I’ll wait for him at the Holiday Inn, no matter how late it is.”
"I'm afraid..." Gu Ze's words caught in his throat.
"What are you afraid of?" He Yanzu asked nervously.
“Feng Tao…he…has suffered a lot over the years, and that family means nothing to him.”
"I know that the Feng brothers, Feng Yan and Feng Zhan, have caused you a lot of trouble, both openly and secretly."
"This caused the Third Young Master to run into obstacles everywhere and suffer a lot." He Yanzu choked up.
Gu Ze's personal experience was as if it were yesterday. He pursed his lips, still vaguely feeling the memory of when he was shooting an advertisement in a square.
Feng Yan happened to be having dinner with the restaurant owner and learned that Feng Tao had brought Gu Ze to film an advertisement there.
Without saying a word, he smashed up the film set and provocatively said, "Boss Yang, is there no one left to serve as our Governor of Hong Kong?"
Hiring such low-tier, third-rate actors to shoot commercials—does your brand even think it can go public? Haha!
As soon as he said that, Boss Yang lost face. He waved his hand, and several security guards came over and chased the man away, smashing things and chasing him away.
Thinking of the mess the two of them made back then, Gu Ze is still furious.
After waiting for a while without receiving a reply from Gu Ze, He Yanzu asked anxiously, "Gu Ze, are you still listening?"
Gu Ze snapped out of his thoughts and hurriedly replied, "I'm listening. I'll send you my location. Come over to my house and we'll talk!"
"Okay, thank you, Gu Ze." He Yanzu was so excited that he was almost incoherent.
After hanging up the phone, Gu Ze leaned against the bathtub wall, his brows furrowed. It seemed things were indeed more complicated than they appeared.
He had to send his location to He Yanzu immediately so that he could meet with Feng Tao.
With that thought in mind, his fingers flew across the keyboard, and the location was sent out.
