Chapter 70 Mystery
Chapter 70 Mystery
The sun shone brightly outside the window, its brilliant rays pouring down upon Xie Yin's face, illuminating his already exquisite features even more brilliantly. Su Wan glanced at him briefly, then quickly lowered her head. In past lives, she had long since given up hope on men, and would never again harbor those girlish sentiments. But the man before her was, after all, different; his eyes seemed to see through everything.
Xie Yin, standing in front of him, lowered his eyes to look at Su Wan, sniffing the faint fragrance emanating from the person before him, his mind at peace. He always wanted to be closer, to feel more of this tranquility.
So I unconsciously took another step forward.
"Thank you, Chief."
The gentle voice brought Xie Yin back to his senses. He slowly opened his eyes and said, "I never like to say things to please women. Su Niang is the first person who was happy with what I said."
A light breath lingered in front of Su Wan's eyes. She frowned slightly and suddenly moved aside. "I heard that the place you are going to has very beautiful scenery. Now I want to take Liu Shang and Liu Yan to see it too."
Xie Yin raised an eyebrow, "Okay. But with Madam Su's wine, this trip should be more worthwhile."
Su Wan's eyes flashed, but she saw Xie Yin leaving with a smile on his face.
Yangzhou has a quiet environment and pleasant scenery. In late spring and early summer, the flowers bloom even more brilliantly. On this day, the sun was really bright, and a group of men came to the hot spring.
Su Wan originally thought that this warmth was buried in a mountain, but she didn't expect that the scenery here was so beautiful.
Su Wan dismounted and walked up the mountain. She felt as if she had returned to Peach Blossom Valley, feeling incredibly happy. Xie Yin followed closely behind her, watching her enjoying it all with her eyes closed.
"Look, there are egrets." Su Wan pointed to Xie Yin, "They are really beautiful."
Xie Yin looked at Su Wan's bright and carefree smile, and his heart also felt bright. "She is indeed beautiful."
Just as Su Wan turned around, Xie Yin quickly shifted his gaze. "Everything has been arranged here. Your people and the secret guards I arranged are all nearby. If you need anything, call Jingzhe."
As Xie Yin said this, he turned around and saw a young boy with a sullen expression walking towards him.
"Young Master, Mr. Su."
"Protect Su Langjun well."
"Yes."
Seeing Xie Yin about to leave, Su Wan asked, "Where are you going?"
Xie Yin's smile was tinged with teasing, "Madam Su, do you want to come with us?"
Su Wan reacted, "Sorry, Brother Xie, I was abrupt."
Xie Yin laughed and turned away.
But Jingzhe behind Su Wan was stunned, "Are you familiar with the young master?"
Su Wan turned around, her expression puzzled. "I'm fine. What happened?"
"Alright?" Jingzhe's forehead wrinkled with surprise. The young master rarely smiled at anyone like this. He had only been away for a few months. What had happened?
Xie Yin was unaware of Jingzhe's surprise. When he arrived at a courtyard, Cang Yi came up to him and said, "Young Master, the Zhu family's wife is waiting for you inside."
Xie Yin nodded and walked into the courtyard. Inside the house, a woman in a white brocade robe sat at the table, her back straight. Without even looking at her face, one could tell that she was not from the Xun merchant family.
Hearing the footsteps, the woman stood up and stepped forward, "Mu Ning greets Chief Xie."
It turned out that this was Zhu Muning, the eldest daughter of the Zhu family.
Xie Yin nodded and sat down in the main seat. "I wonder what Madam Zhu wants to talk to me about?"
Zhu Muning paused, then smiled and said, "I know Chief Xie came to Yangzhou on the emperor's orders, so he must have important matters to attend to."
"I'm just here to soak in the hot springs. I heard Madam Zhu will be returning to Beijing soon. Do you need any help from me?"
Seeing Xie Yin's calm expression, without arrogance or sarcasm, Zhu Muning felt relieved.
"A few days ago, I saw Xie Sushi at Yunkai Academy and wanted to say hello, but I knew he was busy, so I didn't bother him."
Xie Yin frowned, "So Madam Zhu has also been to the academy? I was blind and didn't see it."
Zhu Muning smiled knowingly, "Brother always says that Chief Xie is tough on the outside but soft on the inside. I've learned that lesson myself. When we return to the capital, I'll ask you to thank Chief Xie."
As members of the same Wang clan, the Zhu and Xie families naturally rub shoulders with each other. Zhu Muning often heard rumors about Xie Yin while at home, but she and Xiong Zhang believed that judging a person depends on their actions. This was why Zhu Muning had taken the initiative to meet Xie Yin today.
"In that case, I will not disturb Chief Xie's elegance." Zhu Muning bowed and left.
After leaving the yard, Zhu Muning got on a carriage and headed out of the valley via a small path.
"Look, my lady, that young man looks so familiar."
Hearing the maid's call, Zhu Muning opened the curtains and saw a young man of medium height standing there in a light blue brocade robe. She suddenly remembered the young man who stood beside Shen Wenqin a few days ago. Su Wan, who was in the distance, also looked across, and their eyes met.
Su Wan had a feeling this person was very familiar. She followed the carriage for a while.
"Madam, what are you looking at?" Liu Shang walked over and said.
"That woman looks so familiar." Su Wan looked at the departing carriage road.
Su Wan turned around and saw Jingzhe being called aside, seemingly plotting something. She didn't bother him and walked inside. Suddenly, a dark shadow passed by. Su Wan, having spent her previous life in a dungeon, was more sensitive to these sounds, and her nerves suddenly tensed. She saw the branches of a tree swaying beside the yard.
Su Wan grabbed Liuyan's hand and asked her to find someone, while she and Su Wan followed the trail.
He remembered Xie Yin's words about secret guards everywhere, so he figured nothing would happen. But Su Wan was hiding outside the courtyard, and Liu Yan hadn't arrived yet. Su Wan heard Liu Shang say the hot springs were inside. He figured the man was going after Xie Yin, and thinking of the carriage that had just passed, Su Wan followed him inside. Liu Shang was also incredibly nervous, following behind Su Wan, breathless.
"Madam, how about we go back first?"
Su Wan made a gesture to keep quiet. There was no sound around her at the moment. The two of them walked through the hall and went inside.
They pushed open the door and walked inside along the path. Suddenly, they heard a loud bang behind them. Su Wan and Liu Shang ran inside without thinking. As they ran, they came to a place with many rockery. They lost their way and had to feel their way inside.
"Who is it?" A voice called out at that moment. Su Wan felt it was familiar. She looked up to see Xie Yin in his underwear, his collarbone exposed. Su Wan then saw a dark figure behind him, circling the hot spring. Her eyes widened as she rushed to Xie Yin's side, pulling him into a corner.
In a narrow corner, the two of them huddled together. Xie Yin frowned, looking puzzled. Su Wan made a hushed gesture, signaling someone outside. Sure enough, due to the mist rising from the hot spring, the two of them made another noise, and the man in black appeared and groped for their whereabouts.
Inside, Su Wan tugged at Xie Yin's clothes, nervously listening to the noise outside. Little did she know Xie Yin was looking at them with a sneer on his face. Then, his brow furrowed, sensing something was amiss, he gently patted Su Wan's head and pointed downwards. Su Wan's eyes widened as she hurriedly backed away, but behind her were sharp rocks. Xie Yin quickly placed his hand on Su Wan's back.
Su Wan looked up at Xie Yin, who made a gesture to her to be quiet, and then looked outside, listening to the footsteps getting closer and closer.
