Chapter 324 Preparing Cooked Food
Chapter 324 Preparing Cooked Food
Xu Xiaoyan thought for a moment and said, "Then let's do it now. Tell him to come directly to Parking Lot 23 in the East District. I'll wait for him here."
"Okay," Old Zhou said, "I'll tell him..."
After hanging up the phone, she walked directly to the parking lot near her home, keeping an eye on her friends' information on the black market website as she went.
A friend request popped up shortly after. The other party's ID was a number, and their profile picture was the default gray.
She clicked "accept".
A message immediately came in: "Battery box?"
She replied, "Yes, parking lot number 23 in the East Wing. Can you come now?"
"Twenty minutes".
"good".
Conversation ends.
Xu Xiaoyan put down her phone, checked the time, and saw that twenty minutes was just enough time for her to walk to the parking lot.
When she arrived at parking lot number 23, a bread truck had already driven into the parking lot. The truck was running the whole time, and when it saw her coming in from the entrance, it drove up and stopped next to her.
The car window rolled down, revealing the face of a young man in his twenties with slightly dark skin. He looked at Xu Xiaoyan and asked, "Are you the one who wants the battery box?"
Xu Xiaoyan nodded.
The man got out of the car, went around to the back, and opened the trunk.
Inside, a silver-gray battery box lay quietly, exactly the same as the two she had bought before.
Xu Xiaoyan walked over and took a closer look.
The casing was intact, without any bumps or scratches. The display was lit, showing 87% battery. She reached out and touched it, then checked the ports to confirm there were no problems.
"Almost brand new," the man said. "I bought it less than a month ago and it's been sitting at home with hardly any use."
She nodded and asked, "How do I pay?"
The man took out his phone and opened the transfer interface.
Xu Xiaoyan scanned the code, entered 2500, and confirmed.
With a beep, the transfer was successful.
The man glanced at his phone, breathed a sigh of relief, helped Xu Xiaoyan move the battery box down and put it on the ground, then nodded to her and said, "I'm leaving."
After saying that, he got into the car, started the engine, and drove away.
Xu Xiaoyan dragged the battery box back to her room.
She pushed open the door, dragged the battery box inside, and placed it next to the socket in the corner.
Plug in the power, and the indicator light will light up, showing that charging has started.
Currently, only the newly purchased battery box is not fully charged, but it would be best if it could be fully charged.
She checked her storage space and found that most of the snacks were gone, except for those she had specifically saved for herself.
There are quite a lot of vegetables and fruits. The day before yesterday, I bought some tomatoes, cucumbers, green vegetables, Chinese cabbage, and cowpeas from the supplier.
Not to mention rice, flour, cooking oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and various seasonings, these have been her main stockpiling targets for the past six months.
Looking at the fresh vegetables, she suddenly realized a problem: there might be a period of wandering ahead, and she estimated that she wouldn't have time to slowly cook the fresh vegetables.
Can you cook in the car? Yes, but what if you're in a hurry? When do you have time to stop and start a fire to cook?
We have to stew it while there's still electricity!
She glanced at the time—it was exactly 12 noon.
Just do it.
She first took things out of the space: a rice cooker, an electric frying pan, a small stew pot, and an electric kettle. Fortunately, there were plenty of sockets, which was enough.
She stewed pork and radish in a rice cooker.
Plug in the rice cooker, pour in some oil, and put the pork chunks in to fry. A sizzling sound rang out.
The aroma of meat immediately wafts out. Fry until golden brown on both sides, then add cooking wine, soy sauce, sugar, star anise, water, and radish. Cover and simmer.
Then prepare the greens. Greens are very simple: wash them clean, cut them a few times, boil water in a pot, and blanch them.
She turned on the electric wok, poured in water, and started boiling it. While waiting for the water to boil, she washed the vegetables.
The washed green vegetables were piled on the cutting board, looking quite appealing.
Once the water boils, put the greens in the pot, blanch them for a minute or two, then take them out, drain the water, and put them into a disposable food storage container.
One box, two boxes, three boxes...
She worked quickly, blanching the greens, then the cabbage, then the bean sprouts, categorizing and packing them neatly.
The pork and radish stew in the rice cooker was still bubbling away, and the aroma was getting stronger and stronger.
She took a moment to lift the lid and peek inside. The meat had already browned, and the radish was soft. She poked it with her chopsticks; it was mushy. She turned off the heat and took it out of the pot.
Then came stewed beef and potatoes.
The potatoes are fresh, peeled and cut into chunks. After the beef thaws, it is cut into small cubes.
First, put the diced beef into the rice cooker, add the seasonings and water, and simmer for a while before adding the potatoes.
The electric frying pan wasn't idle either, continuing to blanch the vegetables.
Tomatoes shouldn't be scalded; they need to be stir-fried.
She switched to a small slow cooker, added oil, and stir-fried eggs and tomatoes to make scrambled eggs with tomatoes, then packed it into a box.
The small stew pot never stopped cooking. After stir-frying tomatoes and eggs, it stir-fried eggplant, green peppers, onions, and meat. One pot after another, it kept the cooks busy.
The electric kettle keeps boiling water. It boils one pot, puts it into a thermos, and then boils the next pot.
Who knows if she'll ever have the chance to use these appliances again! We have water and electricity now, so we should save as much as we can.
She was busy from noon until 8 p.m.
For a full eight hours, without interruption, I washed, chopped, stir-fried, stewed, packed, and stacked the vegetables, repeating the process over and over again.
My hand is getting tired, let me rest for a few seconds and then continue.
My legs are numb from standing, so I'll change my posture and continue.
My eyes felt sore and dry from the cooking fumes, so I rubbed them and continued.
The fresh vegetables in the space were gradually transformed into boxes of cooked food.
Potato stew with beef, pork stew with radish, braised pork belly, braised pork ribs, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, stir-fried pork with green peppers.
Stir-fried onions with meat, stir-fried green vegetables, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, stir-fried bean sprouts, stir-fried eggplant, stir-fried cucumber slices.
There was also a large pot of seaweed and egg drop soup. The soup was hard to fit in, so she found several large food storage containers and let it cool before putting the lids on.
In the end, she used up all the disposable food containers she had stored in her space; not a single one was left.
After finishing all that, she realized how exhausted she was.
My lower back aches, my back hurts, my legs feel weak, and I can't even lift my arms.
My eyes are dry and sore, like they have sand in them.
The sweat on my forehead dries and then comes out again, then dries again, and now it's sticky and uncomfortable on my face.
She leaned against the wall, slowly sat down on the edge of the bed, and gasped for breath.
The house was still filled with the aroma of food: stewed pork with radish, braised pork, and stir-fried vegetables, all mixed together, which smelled quite nice.
But she had been smelling it all afternoon, and her nose was numb.
She glanced at the time—8:15 p.m.
Worth it!
These cooked foods will be readily available for consumption on the road.
When you're hungry, just grab it, open it, and eat. No need to light a fire, cook, or waste time. You can eat it while escaping or hiding. You can eat it no matter what.
She rested for a while, then stood up and began tidying up the house.
The rice cooker, electric frying pan, small stew pot, electric kettle, cutting board, kitchen knife, spatula, and spoon were all covered with oil stains and food scraps.
She washed them one by one with dish soap, dried them, and put them away.
The battery box was already fully charged, and the indicator light was green. She unplugged it and put it back into her storage space.
