Chapter 240: Can I Relax a Little Now?
Chapter 240: Can I Relax a Little Now?
Their painstakingly trained police dogs had been thoroughly trounced by Shi Gaofei, and the trainers couldn’t help but feel a little dejected. But once the frustration faded, they saw the benefits of what had just happened. As previously discussed, a growing number of criminal suspects were raising aggressive dogs, and police dogs frequently encountered such opponents while on duty.
In the past, their training had mainly focused on handling criminal suspects. They hadn’t done much training for encounters between police dogs and other aggressive dogs. This was primarily because it was difficult for trainers to simulate the attacks of such vicious animals. If they had the police dogs practice on each other, they worried things would get too heated and result in an accident.
Shi Gaofei’s arrival seemed to be the perfect solution to this problem. First, his fighting ability was far superior to that of those aggressive dogs. If the police dogs could learn to evade his attacks, then they could certainly evade the attacks of other dogs. Second, Shi Gaofei had controlled his strength perfectly, ensuring that none of the police dogs were seriously injured, while he himself remained completely unscathed. This guaranteed both the effectiveness and the safety of the training.
"So you’re saying you want Shi Gaofei to be a trainer, just like you guys, and train these police dogs?" Shen Yibin asked.
’What does he mean, Shi Gaofei as a trainer just like us?’ The trainers found the phrasing awkward, but after a moment’s thought, they realized Shen Yibin wasn’t wrong—his wording was just a little strange. "That’s right," one said. "And please, don’t worry. We won’t have you do this for nothing. I’ll go apply for a food and training subsidy for Shi Gaofei."
"Uh, I don’t think that’s necessary." Shen Yibin had heard from Bai Yanni that the K-9 unit’s budget was actually very tight. The trainers often paid out of their own pockets to give the dogs better food. Besides, that little rascal Shi Gaofei liked to eat snake meat, which was far more expensive than what these police dogs ate.
"If you have any concerns, please tell us and we’ll see if we can resolve them. Don’t be so quick to refuse! At least give us a chance," the trainer said, mistakenly thinking Shen Yibin was rejecting their offer for Shi Gaofei to become a coach.
"It’s not that I’m saying no. It’s just that Shi Gaofei has a very particular diet, and I doubt you’d be able to manage it. Besides, Officer Bai and I are friends, and the Yunzhong City police department has helped me out so much. Let’s just forget about the subsidy." In truth, Shen Yibin was more than happy for Shi Gaofei to take on the job. Apart from the reasons he’d already mentioned, he had another thought.
’Judging by his reaction just now, Shi Gaofei had a blast. He’d clearly gotten his fill after those three fights. If I can have him come here regularly to fight... oh, I mean, train these police dogs... then maybe he’ll stop pestering me so much? And maybe my life will get a little easier?’
"How could we possibly do that? You allowing him to come is already a huge favor to us," the trainers protested, having no idea how much it cost to feed Shi Gaofei.
But this time, Shen Yibin refused to back down. He finally stated that if they insisted on paying, then Shi Gaofei wouldn’t be coming. ’Ugh, even if they paid, the money probably wouldn’t end up in my pocket anyway. So why bother?’ Seeing his resolute stance, the trainers had no choice but to agree. "We feel bad imposing on you like this. Mr. Shen, if there’s ever anything we can help you with in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask."
"But there’s one more thing I need to mention beforehand." Shen Yibin raised a hand to stop their thanks. "As you know, I still have a shop to run, so I can’t come here every day. And besides me, he doesn’t listen to anyone else. So, at most, I can spare two days a week."
Besides running the shop, Shen Yibin also had to find an owner for Shi Gaofei. Three months would pass in the blink of an eye. So, although he felt it was a bit of a pity, this was the only arrangement Shen Yibin could make.
"Of course, of course. Mr. Shen, you have no obligation to help us to begin with. We’re already extremely grateful for what you’re offering." They certainly weren’t going to be picky. They then proceeded to discuss the details, such as the specific days and how to handle scheduling conflicts if Shen Yibin had something urgent come up.
After about ten minutes of discussion, they reached an agreement. And just like that, Shi Gaofei became an unofficial coach for the Yunzhong City K-9 unit, required to spend two days a week fighting with the police dogs... er, that is, providing them with specialized training.
"Thank you, Mr. Shen! Thank you, Officer Bai! I’m sure that with Shi Gaofei’s training, the combat effectiveness of these dogs will improve by leaps and bounds." The trainer from the K-9 unit was grinning from ear to ear. ’Once this training is done, the Yunzhong City K-9 unit is going to be the talk of the town when we meet with our counterparts from other regions, isn’t it?’
More importantly, ’when these dogs go on future arrest missions, they’ll be able to complete them more smoothly and bring the suspects to justice, right?’ The dogs would also face a much lower risk of injury or death. These trainers spent day and night with their K-9 partners and had a deep bond with them. They would be devastated if anything happened to any one of the dogs. Shen Yibin’s help would lessen that constant worry.
"It’s getting late. Let’s all go grab a simple meal together. Mr. Shen, you can’t refuse! And the ladies should come along, too!" the trainers invited enthusiastically. Before Shen Yibin and his group could refuse, they were ushered into the base’s cafeteria.
The cafeteria’s head chef heard the news and came out brandishing a large ladle, repeatedly asking what Shi Gaofei liked to eat. Once they found out, the trainers fought over who would go out and find a place to buy snakes for Shi Gaofei. When the snakes were brought back, Shi Gaofei showed off his skill of eating them like they were spicy jerky, leaving everyone clucking their tongues in amazement. Even Hah’Er’s thunder was stolen.
How could one eat with these red-blooded men and not drink? One by one, they came up with glasses in hand to toast Shen Yibin. By the end, Shen Yibin was feeling a bit dizzy. In the end, they assigned an officer to drive Shen Yibin and his companions back to the shop.
"I drank a little too much. I’m going upstairs to sleep. I’ll leave the shop in your hands," Shen Yibin said, staggering up to the second floor and collapsing onto his bed.
He didn’t wake up until a little after five in the afternoon. Shen Yibin groggily checked the time, and a smile touched his lips. ’Shi Gaofei definitely had his fill at the K-9 base today. That means I should get a break this afternoon, at least. I won’t have to take him to the park to work out, right?’
Hm? Shen Yibin suddenly shot upright and pricked up his ears. ’Did I just hear an ominous sound?’
