Chapter 227: Who’s Walking Who?
Chapter 227: Who’s Walking Who?
"Mmm!" Seeing that Shen Yibin hadn’t responded after a long moment, Hah’Er grunted again to urge him on. After so much time in Africa, it was starting to miss its life in Yunzhong City.
’Might as well take it with me,’ Shen Yibin thought. ’I can’t just keep it locked up in the store all the time. Besides, if I go out and leave just the two girls at the store, they probably won’t be able to control it. Better to take it with me.’
"Shi Qing, go to the storage room and get me a collar and a leash." But he couldn’t go out completely unprepared. ’I’ll put it on a leash. Other people walk dogs; I walk Pingtou. That’d be pretty badass to talk about. Yeah, I can take a picture and post it on my Moments to show off in a bit. There are millions of people who walk dogs, but how many people in the whole world would dare to walk a honey badger?’
"Okay, Boss." Li Shiqing scurried over and, a moment later, came back with the best collar and leash in the store. She bravely stood next to Shen Yibin, watching him put the leash on Shi Gaofei.
Shi Gaofei’s domineering arrival at the store yesterday had scared her. It had easily torn apart the thick wire of the display cage. On top of that, when she went back to her dorm to rest last night, she specifically looked up information on Pingtou. The videos of them fighting lions and crocodiles shocked her even more. If it didn’t seem like Shi Gaofei actually listened to Shen Yibin, she might have been scared enough to quit. Who could blame her? Pingtou’s fighting prowess was just too terrifying.
"Be good now, let’s get this collar on you," Shen Yibin said while stroking Shi Gaofei’s fur. Shi Gaofei was quite obedient and didn’t put up much of a fight, but Shen Yibin ran into a new problem.
’Damn, why the hell is its neck so thick? It’s almost as wide as its head.’ Shen Yibin didn’t want to make it too tight, so fitting the collar became a real hassle.
Fortunately, Shen Yibin had plenty of experience with this sort of thing. After a great deal of effort, he finally got it done. He put on the collar, attached the leash, and stood up. "Shi Gaofei, let’s go!"
"Shi Qing, come take a picture of me and Shi Gaofei." Just as he was about to leave, Shen Yibin turned back and handed his phone to Li Shiqing. He had her take a couple of pictures, then posted one to his Moments with the caption, "Your bro is out walking his Pingtou. Try not to be too jealous."
He wanted to wait and see how people would reply, but Shi Gaofei was already bolting out the door impatiently. Shen Yibin had no choice but to check later. And so, with Hah’Er leading the way and Shi Gaofei close behind, the three of them headed for the park.
Just like always, the neighbors greeted Hah’Er warmly when they saw it out and about. Quite a few of them were curious about Shi Gaofei. Some who didn’t know what kind of animal it was even wanted to go up and pet it. But Pingtou was not to be trifled with—it was the kingpin of the African savanna! It flared up immediately. If Shen Yibin hadn’t been desperately holding it back, a few guys might have lost their family jewels.
’Good thing I put a leash on it beforehand, or I’d be crying my eyes out right now.’ Shen Yibin felt extremely relieved and quickly picked up his pace to get to the park.
Once in the park, he didn’t dare greet any acquaintances. Today was different; he was holding onto a short-tempered little overlord. So, Shen Yibin, with Hah’Er in tow and Shi Gaofei on the leash, began jogging along the path by the lake. ’Yeah, I’d better finish this workout while it’s still early. If it gets crowded later, something bad might happen again.’
There’s an old saying: "What you fear most is what comes to pass." Shen Yibin was being extremely careful, afraid someone or some animal would provoke Shi Gaofei. He even deliberately controlled his pace to avoid other people exercising. But of course, some oblivious fool just had to come along and challenge Shi Gaofei.
A Pekingese of unknown ownership darted out from the side and stood ahead, staring at Shi Gaofei. ’Who brings their dog to a public place without a leash? Damn it, it’s people like you who give dog owners a bad name! This little guy might not be big, but some Pekingese have very nasty tempers and can be quite aggressive. You’ll be the one crying if it bites someone.’
"Whose dog is this...?" Shen Yibin had only gotten half the sentence out when the reckless Pekingese actually started provoking Shi Gaofei. It barked twice at Shi Gaofei, then charged forward to attack.
Shi Gaofei was a creature that didn’t even fear lions; what was a mere Pekingese to it? In its eyes, the dog probably didn’t even qualify as a complete joke. It was a blessing that Shi Gaofei hadn’t decided to bully it, yet here it was, actively provoking it? Wasn’t that just asking for death?
"HSS~ HSS~" Shi Gaofei let out two low hisses, the fur from its neck to its tail standing on end. It lunged forward instantly, and two swipes of its claws were enough to make the stupid dog cry out in pain.
"YELP~" The Pekingese let out a couple of mournful cries and fled with its tail between its legs. It seemed to have realized that Shi Gaofei was not something it could afford to provoke.
Provoking Pingtou was easy, but getting away safely was another matter entirely. Even Bear Grylls would have a hard time escaping a Pingtou’s pursuit, so what chance did this dog have?
Shi Gaofei hadn’t had a fight in days and was feeling cranky. Now that some oblivious fool had finally delivered itself to its doorstep to be slaughtered, how could it possibly let it go so easily? It immediately lunged forward, yanking Shen Yibin so hard he staggered and almost fell.
"Slow down... slow down!" Shen Yibin quickly started running after Shi Gaofei. He knew Shi Gaofei was enraged and couldn’t be stopped with words. Plus, he didn’t dare pull hard on the leash for fear of choking it, so he could only speed up and follow along.
"YELP~ YELP~" The Pekingese glanced back, saw Shi Gaofei was still chasing it, and immediately sped up.
"HSS~ HSS~" Why would Shi Gaofei allow something that had provoked it to escape so easily? It ran even faster, and Shen Yibin had no choice but to sprint along with them.
Now there was no way Hah’Er could catch up. It could only stop and watch helplessly as they ran farther and farther away.
And so, a bizarre scene unfolded in the park that morning. A Pekingese was sprinting for its life at the front, letting out mournful cries from time to time, as if it had encountered something utterly terrifying.
And behind it, a man holding a strange-looking animal on a leash was in hot pursuit, causing everyone to turn and stare. They stopped their workouts, gathering to watch and gossip about what on earth was going on.
After three full laps around the lake, Shen Yibin was completely out of breath. He was ready to cry. ’Damn it! A minute ago, I was showing off to everyone about walking Pingtou, and now I’m the one being walked by Pingtou! I could just kill that Pekingese’s owner right now! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in this mess!’
