I, Qi Tongwei, will never yield, even if it means defeating fate by half a move.

Chapter 494 Qiyuan PC Platform Officially Released

On Zhuang Wenbin's side, as planned, Qiyuan Company will release its new chip, new operating system and matching motherboard at the Hong Kong Autumn Electronics Show.

The laptops and desktops are based on the DevKit 2.0 complete board, a new chip developed by Qiyuan Company, a new operating system, and a matching motherboard.

At the press conference, Zhuang Wenbin announced that the company will open up its chip architecture and motherboard technology, and welcomes cooperation from enterprises and companies around the world.

It also incentivizes global developers and welcomes them to develop for the Qiyuan PC platform.

The specific incentive plan is as follows:

I. Software Development

1. Equipment:

Qiyuan Company will send out 25,000 complete development machines (CPU + motherboard + OS) within the next year.

The first batch of 6250 sets will all be shipped out before Christmas.

Selection criteria: Existing 16-bit/32-bit Windows or DOS products, or a commitment to port or develop new products based on the Qiyuan PC platform within 6 months.

2. Software and documentation:

We provide a free SDK, debugger CD, and driver-level documentation manual, and offer porting subsidies to third-party tool vendors (Borland/Wat, etc.) to ensure the IDE is available on the first day of release.

3. Technical support:

We have established one 8-hour x 5-day English/Japanese/Chinese support center in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan, with 5 FAEs in each center.

4. Training and seminars:

We organize 40 two-day developer training camps a year, with 150 participants per camp, providing food, accommodation, and reimbursement for round-trip airfare.

5. University-incubator collaboration:

We have jointly established laboratories with 20 top engineering universities.

6. Hold a developer competition:

年度冠军大奖100 kx10名、亚军50 kx20名、季军30 kx70名,媒体发布会+杂志广告。

7. Transplant bonus:

完成Beta + 通过兼容性测试即付25 k;三个月后达到1 000真实下载再付25 k;共支持200个团队。

8. Revenue sharing and rebates:

In the first year, the platform only took 10% (compared to the industry average of 20% at the time).

9. Startup support:

与两家硅谷VC各出10M成立1:1配对基金,单票投250 k–500 k,做种子轮,投20–30家初创公司。

The invested company must guarantee a platform exclusivity period of ≥12 months.

II. Hardware Development:

1. Design & Prototyping Stage:

500 sets of 2-layer reference boards will be provided, containing DDR, PCI, and AGP routing reference designs for the CPU/chipset.

Subsidize PCB prototyping costs: once for 4-layer PCBs and once for 6-layer PCBs, with advance payment followed by reimbursement.

Qiyuan Company will provide test instrument rental vouchers and will sign a framework agreement with KeyTek and Tektronix. Developers can use their project ID to offset 50% of the rental fee, up to a maximum of 10 RMB per team, and use 200 sets of high-speed oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

2. Driver & Compatibility Phase:

Driver Bonuses (Milestones): $15 for Alpha drivers passing WHQL prequalification; $25 for Beta drivers passing the platform compatibility lab; expected to support 250 peripheral teams.

Compatibility Lab Free Testing Time: Qiyuan Company will build a "PCI/AGP/ISA slot torture rack" in Silicon Valley, Taiwan, and Munich, providing 24/7 testing space, with 200 hours of free testing time for each project.

3. Mass Production & Market Stage:

First batch of chip/part number rebate: $3 per CPU or chipset sold, up to a maximum of 500 million units.

Joint Exhibitor Fund: Fall COMDEX, CeBIT, and WinHEC will set up a "New Platform Pavilion" booth, with the platform provider paying 50% of the booth fee. Exhibitors must display the slogan "Designed for Qiyuan CPU+OS".

Retail listing incentives: A one-time listing incentive of $5,000 will be given to products listed on CompUSA, Best Buy, and MediaMarkt, supporting a total of 1,000 SKUs.

Gerber, driver source code, and test report must be submitted at each stage before the next level of funding is triggered;

At least 200 PCI/AGP/USB peripherals must pass compatibility testing within 12 months;

Platform CPU + motherboard bundled shipments ≥ 200 million units.

Software incentives total $1 million, hardware incentives total $5000 million, for a total of $1.5 million.

Incentives will continue to be provided.

Shocked the whole audience.

This is not only because the world has gained a new chip architecture, a new operating system, and a new motherboard.

This will have a huge impact on the global computer industry landscape and the Internet.

Rather, it's because they appeared in the East.

Although Qiyuan Company was developed and launched in Hong Kong, it still falls within the sphere of Western influence.

However, this also meant that Hong Kong lacked the environment to develop new chip architectures and operating systems.

Otherwise, Hong Kong would have already developed new chip architectures and operating systems.

Although some large companies have placed their R&D centers in Hong Kong, it is only to reduce costs and better serve the Chinese market.

Developing a new architecture chip and a new operating system is not easy, especially a new architecture chip and a new operating system that can be directly commercialized.

This requires a lot of funding and talent.

Most importantly, there is a $1.5 million incentive for software and hardware. If successful, the Qiyuan PC platform ecosystem will quickly take shape and mature, rapidly becoming the world's third largest PC platform.

On the day of the press conference, Qiyuan Company sold 100 development machines, 200 development kits, 1000 motherboards, 1000 laptops, 1000 CPUs, 500 desktop computers, and 1500 CPU + motherboard + OS sets.

After the press conference, reports flooded the media, and the whole world knew that a remarkable technology company had emerged in the East.

Qi Tongwei called Zhuang Wenbin to congratulate him on his successful start.

Some voices within the ministries also felt that it was too frivolous for Qiyuan Company to release its PC platform in Hong Kong before it had passed national verification and certification.

However, these voices were quickly suppressed by the leadership.

Soon, Qi Tongwei received a notice asking him to attend a meeting at the Ministry of Electronics Industry.

At the meeting, Qi Tongwei reported on the reasons for developing the Qiyuan PC platform and the process of its launch, while Zhuang Wenbin reported on the development process and the results achieved.

Experts and ministry leaders also offered their opinions, with many criticizing Qi Tongwei and Zhuang Wenbin for acting recklessly.

The leader immediately affirmed Qi Tongwei and Zhuang Wenbin's actions, telling everyone that he was the one who instructed them to do so.

The country has tried to develop its own architecture chips and operating systems many times, but none of the projects have succeeded, so it has to find another way.
