Chapter 52 Change
Chapter 52 Change
The phone beeped as it hung up. Yan Huai handed the phone back. Since the rest of the matter could only be done in Changsha anyway, he might as well take advantage of the moment to read the memories of the person named Wang Jue who was going to replace him, so as to avoid any more guessing later.
With his arms crossed over his chest, Yan Huai closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat to find a comfortable position. Just as he was about to have the system transfer Wang Jue's memories to him, A Ning's voice came from a seat behind him, cold yet carrying a strange emotion.
"Yan Huai, I don't care what you guys do, but if you're trying to use me to threaten and manipulate Qiu Dekao, you won't succeed." Because he didn't care about anyone's life or death except his own...
Yan Huai didn't open his eyes, but instead frowned as if he was impatient, and casually said, "Gag her."
"Yes!"
The drive from Changsha takes about twelve hours, not to mention a stretch of sea. The group can't get on the national highway without taking a flight. This is something Yan Huai is glad about, as he has enough time to learn about Xie Lianhuan's memories and the Wang family's plans.
At the same time, Yan Huai changed his mind about having A Ning replace him again; he would find a way to ensure she left alive before being sent to the Wang family...
"Receive Wang Jue's memories."
"Good host!"
The typhoon season has arrived, and the waves rise spontaneously, howling with the wind. The underwater tomb has been isolated from the outside world once again. There is only a constant drizzle on the sea and the shore, but fortunately, it is not as unsettling as it was last night.
In the inpatient department of Haicheng People's Hospital, two of the three adjacent beds in one ward were empty. On the only occupied bed, Zhang Qiling was still unconscious, and the doctor was examining him. Wu Xie and Fatty Wang, one with a gauze bandage on his head and the other with a bandage wrapped around his arm, stood by with worried eyes, not daring to utter a sound.
All three patients are here!
Seeing the doctor straighten up from in front of the bed, Wu Xie quickly stepped forward and asked, "Doctor, how is he?"
"The external injury is healing very well, but the cause of the coma is still unclear. We'll take a brain CT scan later, and he'll be hospitalized for observation for another two days." The doctor was a middle-aged man wearing frameless glasses. He spoke naturally and calmly, and seemed to have considerable clinical experience.
Although the worry in Wu Xie's eyes did not diminish, she still smiled politely and thanked the doctor: "We understand, thank you, doctor!"
"You're welcome!"
After watching the doctor leave the ward, Fatty Wang looked at Wu Xie, who was tucking Zhang Qiling in and cautiously watching the IV tube, and said helplessly, "Hey, little naive, you have a concussion and you're still swaying like this. Do you believe you'll really turn into mush? Sit down and rest for a while!"
Wu glared at Fatty Wang. He had his own troubles too!
“Now that the windy season has arrived, there’s still no news from my third uncle, A Ning is missing, and Xiao Ge is unconscious. I’m increasingly convinced that this is all part of a conspiracy,” Wu Xie said, suppressing his frustration. He held his head, his face pale and pained. “But apart from the underwater tomb, I really have no clue whatsoever.”
"You're still not giving up! Our commotion this time isn't huge, but it's not insignificant either. Anyway, we're not going to the underwater tomb!"
Fatty Wang draped one of his fat legs over the edge of the bed, his back resting on a plump white pillow. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the TV remote on the bedside table. Thinking he was just idling around anyway, he reached out and grabbed the remote—it would be good to watch TV and pass the time!
The next moment, after the initial blue screen flashed on the TV, the first TV program that popped up was a scene of a female singer powerfully hitting a high note. The volume was beyond shocking. If this happened in a cardiology ward, even if it wasn't considered murder, the hospital would go bankrupt!
In short, none of the three people in the ward—two conscious and one unconscious—expected such a thrilling situation!
Wu Xie was so startled that he jumped up and down on the stool. The next second, he flung the pillow from the head of the empty hospital bed, hitting Wang Pangzi squarely on the forehead: "You fatso, keep your voice down!"
"I..." Knowing he was in the wrong, Fatty Wang hurriedly pressed the volume button on the remote and didn't dare to let go! Looking at his anxious expression, it was as if he was about to swallow the volume bar whole.
Fortunately, the TV volume went up and down quickly. Wu Xie and Fatty Wang breathed a deep sigh of relief when they saw Zhang Qiling still lying there peacefully.
But before he could finish his sentence, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open, and two ordinary-looking but unassuming people walked in without permission and stood on either side of the ward, making way for the middle.
"Young Master San is truly skilled!"
Upon hearing this voice, Wu Xie's eyes widened instantly, and his body instinctively shivered: "Second Uncle?"
Wu Erbai stepped into the ward, letting out a cold snort. Erjing followed behind him with her head down. Upon seeing Wu Xie, she called out "Third Master" with a hint of pity in her eyes...
"Did you have a limp tongue, Third Master? Should I get you a board to fix it?" Wu Erbai's hands hadn't been this itchy in a long time, but he was still rational. He couldn't wait until he escorted this little brat back to Hangzhou before he could loosen his bones!
But Wu Xie had no idea what his second uncle was thinking! He only knew that Wu Erbai's eyes were practically tearing his skin off. He swallowed hard and took an unconscious step back: "No need, Second Uncle! My tongue works fine! How did you end up in Hainan?"
"How dare you say that!" Wu Erbai had been furious every time this matter was mentioned these past few days. "You came to Hainan without telling me, and now you've caused such a huge mess!"
Wu Xie was completely confused. What trouble had he gotten himself into?
Wang Pangzi looked at Wu Erbai with a puzzled expression. He stepped forward, cupped his hands in greeting, and said with a smile, "This must be Master Wu Er! Master Wu, please calm down. I am Wang Pangzi. You can just call me Pangzi!"
Wu Erbai was furious when he saw Wu Xie's stupid appearance, but with outsiders present, he could only swallow his anger and, holding his folding fan, turn to face Wang Pangzi with a fist and palm salute, saying, "Master Pang, it's an honor to meet you."
"I dare not accept such praise!" Fatty Wang forced a smile on his fleshy face. If the door to the ward hadn't been blocked by Wu Erbai's men, he would definitely have gone out. But clearly, Wu Erbai was determined not to let anyone leave!
"Second Uncle, you just said I caused trouble, but I didn't do anything!" Wu Xie was absolutely certain that he hadn't done anything harmful or immoral last night. If he had, it was because he was forced to get involved in the case of A Ning's disappearance.
"You haven't caused any trouble yet!?" Wu Erbai's anger, which he had finally managed to suppress, almost flared up again. Wu Xie was already prepared to run all over the ward, but just then, Erjing whispered something in Wu Erbai's ear. Seeing that the latter actually calmed down after taking a breath, Wu Xie was stunned.
"This morning, the defense department filed a complaint against the International Marine Resources Development Company, and the government has launched a thorough investigation. I'm not entirely clear on the specifics, but it concerns the underwater tomb your muddle-headed uncle is planning to visit. If you had come back any later and been caught red-handed, I don't need to elaborate on the consequences!"
