Chapter 2 The Living Dead with Human Faces
Chapter 2 The Living Dead with Human Faces
The setting sun kissed the horizon passionately, dyeing the sky red, while the white clouds dispersed, leaving only Su Jue sitting in place.
He looked at the two girls beside him who had almost died because of his words with a blank expression.
What exactly do those three sentences mean?
Prophecy or... a mission?
As he was thinking, he caught a glimpse of one of the girls with a ponytail standing up, holding her forehead.
"What exactly are you? How can you utter the 'Three Words of Warlock' so casually?"
Liu Xue remained as carefree as before, but compared to before, there was a hint of fear in her eyes.
Of course, she had no idea what was in front of her. After all, there was no record of anyone being able to say something that was clearly known to everyone in the sorcerer world but had never been spoken aloud without any burden.
"Tell me first, what are these three words from the sorcerer?"
This question is understandable. As a self-taught sorcerer, he knew nothing about such official matters, and he wasn't even sure if there were any other superpowered individuals in the world besides himself.
That's why he's been hiding, and it was only because the monster he encountered last night was a bit too troublesome that he made a fuss.
"I'll tell you if you agree to join the morgue."
Taking the opportunity, Liu Xue revealed the ultimate purpose of her trip.
She didn't care who the guy in front of her was; all she needed to do was complete the task assigned to her. Nothing else mattered.
"No need for that. It's getting late, you should head back. There are undead people roaming the cemetery at night."
"Living Dead" is the name Su Jue gave to those monsters. Unlike the human-faced demons, the behavior logic of the living dead is basically completely consistent with the description of zombies in zombie movies. The only difference is that they cannot infect living people.
Before they could finish speaking, the two heard rustling sounds coming from the woods not far away.
"Help……"
Immediately following the sound was this hoarse cry for help.
"How could there be a human-faced demon?"
Liu Xue asked in confusion.
According to their research, generally only one species of monster can appear in a given area.
Logically speaking, a cemetery, a place full of "the dead and the living," shouldn't have human-faced monsters.
"Hurry up and go."
Su Jue immediately picked up Xu Menghe from the ground and walked in the opposite direction of the cries for help.
Su Jue now sincerely hopes it's not that thing.
But before they had taken two steps, a black shadow rushed up to the three of them at an incredible speed.
Contrary to expectations, it really was that guy.
"We're doomed..."
Su Jue stopped in her tracks and looked at the guy in front of her, cold sweat pouring down her back.
Liu Xue saw it too, of course; she saw the strangest thing she had ever seen in her career.
It was a human-faced demon, but on top of the piece of rotten flesh belonging to the human-faced demon, there was a living dead, which was what Su Jue called the living dead.
This guy almost killed Su Jue two months ago.
"If you keep pretending to be asleep, we're going to die."
As Su Jue spoke, he tossed the disheveled girl he was holding behind him.
Xu Menghe, who should have been fast asleep, landed steadily despite being suddenly thrown.
"What are you doing... That's not gentlemanly at all. They're just a few monsters... What's this thing?"
She was just about to complain when she saw the hybrid monster blocking their way.
"Two months ago there were only five faces..."
Now there are twenty faces, but the ones making the sounds are still the original five faces. Su Jue deduced that the remaining faces were not from living people, but were "spoils of war" seized from the undead.
Su Jue muttered to himself, his hand moving incessantly, and the distorted hieroglyphs floated in mid-air once more.
The other two were similar, except that Su Jue's text was red, Liu Xue's was transparent, and Xu Menghe's was white.
"Snap"
The snap of his fingers seemed to signal an attack, instantly igniting Su Jue and everything around him. The shockwave from the flames caused the two people next to him to instinctively shield their faces with their arms.
By the time they realized what was happening, Su Jue was already on the monster's head.
"Is this a high school student?"
Liu Xue's shock was reasonable. Even though she herself didn't have much combat ability, she had seen combat personnel in the organization before, but few were as exaggerated as Su Jue.
She felt that Su Jue's speed when he started rushing towards the human-faced demon was even comparable to a bullet fired from a gun.
In a moment of desperation, Liu Xue reached out and swept her hand across the silver text beside her, causing the text to shatter.
As Su Jue threw a fireball the size of two people at the monster's head, a mirror appeared beside the monster, and a fireball of the same size flew out from the mirror as well.
The two fireballs collided at extremely high speeds, producing a violent explosion.
Su Jue used the force of the flame jet to get away from the monster before the explosion.
"Run!" Su Jue shouted and ran towards the city without looking back.
"Aren't we going to kill it?" Liu Xue asked, but still followed along as they ran.
"That little bit of power won't be enough to deal with it."
Su Jue had personally tested it; two months ago, when this hybrid monster only had five faces, even this kind of power couldn't kill it.
It wasn't sure if this bastard followed the rule that the more faces a demon had, the stronger it was, but it always made the worst-case scenario its guiding principle.
"With your ability, can you project our escape to another place?" Su Jue asked Liu Xue without turning her head.
"No, I can only copy techniques that others have already used, and they must have been seen within five minutes. That's the rule for my 'forms'," Liu Xue explained.
"And you? What are your abilities?" Su Jue tilted her head slightly to the other side.
"Games, huh? I've already told you about them." Xu Menghe pouted. "You can think of me as a healer in the game; I can help people restore their stamina."
"Useless, you're going to die." The words reappeared beside Su Jue, but this time he broke them apart and "threw" them to the ground.
Soon after, a whooshing sound came from behind; the monster had caught up!
Su Jue snapped his fingers again.
Behind, as the monster was chasing, all the characters that Su Jue had just dismantled attached themselves to it. With Su Jue's snap of his fingers, the characters emitted sparks and exploded, causing the monster to stumble.
"How did you define your technique? How can you use it like this?" Liu Xue asked疑惑地.
"I don't know what you mean by 'formula,' let's talk about it when we get back. It should catch up soon." Su Jue continued to repeatedly break down the characters and arrange them on the ground.
We're still a hundred meters from the city center; it'll only take a dozen seconds.
But then, Su Jue's pupils suddenly contracted: "Stop!"
No sooner had they finished speaking than the monster descended from the sky and landed in front of them.
Su Jue just discovered that his text had been attached to several targets. He looked back and saw that the monster had thrown a few undead to trigger the trap.
"Tsk, even smarter than last time." Su Jue slowly retreated, her eyes constantly scanning her surroundings for a way out, even though she was less than a hundred meters away.
It charged toward the three at a speed that its size shouldn't have allowed, and at the last second, Su Jue snapped his fingers, creating an explosion on himself.
The three were blasted away, but they also managed to dodge the monster's attack.
We escaped this time, but what about next time?
He only had enough strength to unleash his power once, and with the monster closing in, there wasn't enough time for Xu Yafang to cast her power on him.
"If...they die...I can live!" Su Jue stared intently at the monster, thinking that he still needed revenge and could not die.
There's nothing unreasonable about this, is there? I'm not familiar with these two people; I only met them once today, and they just want to recruit me.
Since you're going to die anyway, why not just sacrifice the two people who were going to die so you can live?
The words appeared again beside Su Jue. His thumb and middle finger touched together, but the snapping sound did not come out for a long time.
"Help...help...me..." The monster's wails echoed in Su Jue's ears, like the whispers of a demon.
In a daze, Su Jue seemed to see her parents again, and she saw the fire again.
At that moment, the flames relentlessly burned everything Su Jue could see: his house, his parents, and his future.
There were only two hands, seemingly so hard that the flames were not enough to harm them, relentlessly offering Su Jue a glimmer of hope for salvation.
"Damn it!" He cast the spell again, and two flames quickly appeared and flew towards the two of them.
After the explosion, they were unable to stand up and could only let the flames assault them.
The expected outcome did not occur; instead, the flames gently enveloped the two and carried them toward the city.
The monster seemed somewhat annoyed and charged towards Su Jue.
Su Jue had already fainted from exhaustion when she unleashed the spell.
The undead on the monster's head extended sharp claws and grabbed Su Jue, who was lying on the ground.
The blood that should have gushed out did not appear. The monster looked at the ground in confusion, where there were only fragments of mirror scattered everywhere.
Su Jue, on the other hand, was lying in a place completely opposite to the shards of the mirror.
