Chapter 158 The moonlight is beautiful tonight
Chapter 158 The moonlight is beautiful tonight
The car turned into a familiar residential area.
The ginkgo leaves planted on both sides of the street were bathed in a pale gold light under the streetlights. The car was parked in front of Yukimura's house, the white walls gleaming softly in the moonlight.
Wang Yueling walked very carefully, taking even slower steps than when he went to the hospital. He was afraid that walking too fast would cause the kitten to stumble, so he placed his other hand loosely above the kitten to prevent it from accidentally falling.
Yukimura walked beside him, and seeing his cautious manner, her heart softened.
This person is usually incredibly sarcastic and can insult others without batting an eye. But when it comes to small animals and people they care about, they are always unusually gentle.
"Ling".
"Um?"
"You'll definitely spoil Luna rotten in the future!"
"No." Wang Yueling looked down at the kitten in her palm. "I treat cats differently than I treat people. Cats can be pampered, but people can't be pampered indiscriminately."
"So, which type of person are you to me?"
Wang Yueling paused for a moment and turned her head to look at him.
Yukimura's expression was calm, with a slight smile on his lips, making it impossible to tell whether he was joking or asking seriously.
"The most special one."
Mochizuki Ryo spoke solemnly, placed the kitten back into Yukimura's arms, and added, "Seiichi, you know the answer yourself."
Yukimura didn't ask any more questions and turned his gaze back to what was in front of him.
The kitten was sleeping sprawled out in his arms, belly up, its four paws tucked together, its Elizabethan collar looking like a small bowl turned upside down.
The front door of the Yukimura house was open, and the living room light was on. Yukimura Yuko stood at the door and greeted them with a smile when she saw them return.
"Why are you back so late? Have you eaten?"
"I've already eaten," Yukimura nodded in reply, then glanced down at the kitten in his arms. "Mom, where's Dad?"
"In the living room." Yukimura Yuko stepped aside to let them in, and then her eyes lit up when she saw the little black cat in Yukimura's arms.
"Oh dear, what is this...?"
I found it by the roadside.
Yukimura Yuko leaned closer and reached out to pet the kitten, but seeing that it was asleep, she withdrew her hand. "It's so tiny!"
"Yes. The doctor said it's only three weeks old." Yukimura changed into slippers and walked into the living room.
When Yukimura Yuko saw Mochizuki Ryo, she smiled at first, but then frowned when she saw his wet hair.
"Xiao Ling, why did you get caught in the rain? Come in quickly, don't catch a cold."
"It's alright, Aunt Yuko!" Mochizuki Ryo stood at the door without going in. "I brought Seiichi back."
Yukimura Masaya was sitting on the sofa watching TV, holding a cup of tea. When he saw his son come in, he was about to speak when his gaze fell on the small, dark thing in his son's arms.
The kitten had just woken up, and its bright blue left eye flashed in the light.
The two, a human and a cat, exchanged glances for a second.
Masaya Yukimura slammed his back against the sofa back, his expression changing to one of fear mixed with tension and helplessness.
"Seiichi." His voice was a little tense. "What is that?"
"Cat." Yukimura looked at his father, who was afraid of cats, with amusement.
Masaya Yukimura's body visibly stiffened.
The hand holding the teacup didn't move, but the shoulders tensed, the back lifted off the sofa back, and the whole person leaned forward slightly, as if ready to stand up and run away at any moment.
"Why did you bring a cat back?" His voice was still steady, but he spoke much faster than usual.
"I found it by the roadside. Its paws were injured. It's so pitiful."
Yukimura Masaya opened his mouth, as if to say something, but then swallowed it back. His gaze lingered on the cat for two seconds, then slowly shifted away, looking at Mochizuki Ryo at the door.
Wang Yueling was carrying a camera and a paper bag containing clothes. Her hair was still wet, and she was smiling innocently.
Hello, Uncle.
Yukimura Masaya looked at him, his gaze lingering on his slightly damp hair for a moment, then glanced at his own clean and dry son, and the anger he had been holding in dissipated considerably.
"Mm." He nodded.
"It's good that you're back."
Then he glanced at the dark kitten again, his Adam's apple bobbed, and his expression became somewhat subtle.
"Dad, are you afraid of cats?" Yukimura asked deliberately, noticing his exaggerated reaction.
"Who said that?" Yukimura Masaya said sternly, taking another step back. "I just think it's not very clean."
The kitten glanced at him, then turned its head away, ignoring him.
Yukimura Yuko chuckled and patted her husband's arm, then turned to Mochizuki Ryo and revealed his weakness, "Him... he's been afraid of cats since he was little. Don't let his age fool you, he gets more nervous around cats than ghosts."
"I'm not afraid." Masaya Yukimura's voice rose a little, but his confidence was clearly lacking.
Hearing the commotion, Yukimura Mia ran downstairs, wearing pink pajamas, one of her pigtails was down, and her hair was messy.
"Brother! You're back!"
She ran to the door and saw the cat in Yukimura's hand. Her eyes lit up immediately. "Wow! It's a kitten! It's so cute!"
As he was saying this, he reached out to touch the kitten's paw, but Yukimura stopped him.
He crouched down and turned the kitten towards Meiya. "Its paw is injured, be gentle."
Meiya carefully reached out and gently touched the kitten's back fur with her index finger before immediately withdrawing her hand, only looking at it with her eyes.
"It's so soft. What's its name?"
The kitten felt the touch, reacted by moving slightly, and buried its little face even closer into Yukimura's arms.
"Luna." Yukimura sensed its fear, stroked the kitten's fur to comfort it, and said gently, "Little moon."
"Little Moon..." Mei Ya repeated the name, then looked up at Yue Ling, "First, did you buy this cat specifically for your brother?"
Wang Yueling was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head and explained softly, "No, your brother and I picked it up together."
"Ah! Then why are the cat's eyes the same color as my brother's hair?" Mia tilted her head, looking serious. "This kitten looks just like my brother too. I thought it was specially chosen."
Yukimura Yuko listened to their conversation, squatted down, looked into the kitten's eyes, and smiled.
"It really is. The bluish-purple color on the right is exactly the same as Seiichi's hair and eye color."
Yukimura Masaya stood at a distance, craning his neck to take a curious look, then quickly withdrew. "Alright, alright, come in. Don't just stand there at the door."
Mochizuki Ryo took the kitten from Yukimura's arms. "You guys get some rest. I won't go in."
Looking at his wet hair, Yukimura Yuko was a little worried. "How are you going to go home like this? Come in and have a bowl of ginger soup before you leave."
"It's okay, I'll go back to the hotel to drink."
"A hotel?" Yukimura Yuko glanced at him.
"Yeah, I'm planning to stay here tonight. I'll come back tomorrow morning to continue coaching Seiichi. Mia's on vacation too, so I can give her some basic tennis lessons."
Meiya jumped up and down excitedly, saying that she had already gotten a special beginner's racket today and would definitely work hard to learn tomorrow.
"Let's talk about tomorrow tomorrow."
Wang Yueling smoothed the remaining pigtail of hers and said gently, "Now, you should go to sleep."
Yukimura Masaya, who was standing at a distance, softened considerably upon hearing this and didn't try to stop him. "Then go ahead, come here for breakfast tomorrow."
"Okay, Uncle and Auntie, Meiya, I'll be going now. I'll bring Luna to play again tomorrow morning." Wang Yueling agreed with a smile, playfully waving at them while holding the kitten's healthy little paw.
Yukimura leaned against the door frame, the evening breeze ruffling his hair. He raised his hand to smooth it, and suddenly spoke.
"Ling, I'm very happy today."
"Me too." Wang Yueling smiled, holding the cat. She had just reached the car door when she looked back.
"Take good care of Luna."
Yukimura was still standing at the door, the light from the porch lamp falling on him, making him look quite handsome. He glanced at him, then at the kitten meowing at him with its head tilted back.
"Don't worry." Wang Yueling smiled. "From now on, it'll be with me and I guarantee it'll live the high life every day."
Yukimura was amused by him and turned to go back into the house.
The door closed very quietly.
Ryo Mochizuki stood there for a while and heard Yukimura's mother's voice from inside, "Seiichi, drink the ginger soup... Ryo, you're such a child, you got soaked yourself but you're protecting you so well."
Then came Yukimura's voice, very soft, and it was impossible to hear what he said.
Wang Yueling smiled slightly and turned back to her car.
The car slowly drove off the street. In the rearview mirror, the white wall of the Yukimura family compound grew smaller and smaller until it disappeared around the corner.
Luna nestled in the back seat, trying to lick her paws, but they were blocked by the enclosure, and she couldn't reach them no matter what she did, making her anxiously spin around in circles.
Wang Yueling leaned back in her seat, smiling as she gently tapped the edge of its Elizabethan collar with her index finger. "Silly, don't lick it if you can't reach it."
Luna ignored him and continued licking the air.
Wang Yueling sighed, picked the cat up from the back seat, and placed it on his lap. Luna rolled around on his lap a couple of times, found a comfortable position, curled up, and rested her head in his palm.
"Good boy!" Wang Yueling gently rubbed its ears with her thumb. "Go to sleep."
Luna meowed, probably because she was really tired of playing, and obediently closed her eyes.
The car drove into the night, and the streetlights outside the window receded one by one. Wang Yueling looked down at the black ball of fur in her palm, a gentle smile playing in her azure eyes.
Then he took out his phone and dialed his grandmother's number. It rang twice before being answered.
"grandmother."
"Xiao Ling, why aren't you asleep yet, it's so late?" Grandmother's voice came through the receiver, carrying a unique warmth.
"Just got back to the hotel. Grandma, I have something to tell you."
"What?"
"I found a cat."
"A cat?" There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then Grandma's voice was filled with surprise. "What color is it?"
"A Munchkin kitten, three weeks old, with an injured front paw. We've already taken it to the vet, and it's nothing serious."
Wang Yueling glanced down at the sleeping Luna. "Its eyes are very special; one is bright blue, and the other is bluish-purple. It's very well-behaved!"
As he spoke, he took a picture of Luna sleeping and sent it to her.
The kitten curled up on his lap, its neck tilted to the side, its injured paw sticking out, revealing half of its face, and breathing very lightly.
"The little one is so handsome." Grandmother's voice was filled with laughter. "His eye color is the same as yours and Seishi's."
Mochizuki Ryo was taken aback. "Grandma, how did you know Seiichi's eye color?"
"Aren't all the dolls on your bed this color?" Grandma said casually. "Your grandma's eyesight isn't so bad that I can't see anymore."
Ryo Mochizuki's ears felt a little hot, but she didn't deny it. "Its name is Luna, the name Seiichi gave it."
"A very cute name."
Grandma paused for a moment, then said, "Since you've taken care of it, you have to be responsible for it. Cat bed, cat food, cat litter... all these things need to be prepared."
"Yes. I've already had preparations made."
"No need to buy a cat bed, I'll make one for it."
Grandma's tone was tinged with excitement, "I recently bought a lot of pretty floral fabrics, perfect for making a little nest for the new member of the family, and also cutting out some little clothes and scarves..."
Wang Yueling smiled and explained, "Grandma, it's a male cat."
"Even male kittens need clothes," Grandma said matter-of-factly. "It'll be cold again in a few months, so we need to prepare some."
Wang Yueling laughed out loud, "Okay, you make it for it, make it cute."
"Of course." Grandmother thought for a moment and then asked, "Where are you staying tonight?"
"A hotel. The kind that allows pets."
"That's good. Come back early tomorrow, I'll cook something delicious for you and Luna."
"Okay. Goodnight, Grandma."
"Good night."
Wang Yueling hung up the phone and looked down at Luna.
"You're so lucky. Grandma's going to make you some clothes."
Luna rolled over, exposing her belly, and began to purr very softly.
The car was parked in front of the hotel.
Wang Yueling carried the cat bed and his newly bought clothes into the top-floor suite. He first put the clothes in the dressing room, and then placed the cat bed next to the bed in the bedroom.
Luna climbed out of her carrier and curiously wandered around the room. She walked to the French windows, looked at the night view outside, and gently wagged her tail.
Wang Yueling scooped up Luna, who was eager to explore new territory, and placed her on the sofa. He then took out a wet wipe and wiped the kitten's body. Luna meowed a few times unhappily as he turned her over and wiped her, but she didn't struggle.
After wiping, Wang Yueling sat on the sofa, picked up her tablet, and began to handle company affairs.
Luna tilted her head, looking pitifully at Wang Yueling with her heterochromatic eyes, and let out a soft sob.
It stretched out its paw and patted the back of Wangyue Ling's hand.
"What are you doing?" Wang Yueling put down the tablet and hugged Luna.
Luna rubbed her head against his chest, then pointed to her Elizabethan collar and meowed.
Wang Yueling understood.
"Want to lick your paws?"
Luna meowed softly, as if saying, "Please get rid of this annoying thing for me."
"No, you can't." Wang Yueling rubbed its head. "Your claws aren't healed yet, so you can't take them off. We'll take them off for you when they're better, okay?"
Luna meowed again, this time louder and with a hint of displeasure.
"It's no use calling him." Wang Yueling placed him beside her, leaned back in her chair, crossed her legs, and adopted a lazy posture. "Now that your father isn't here, I'm the one in charge here."
Luna looked at him, her ears drooping back, her eyes narrowed, her whole cat face filled with grievance. She lowered her head, nudged Yue Ling's fingers with her nose twice, then looked up at him again.
That expression, that look in his eyes, that pitiful little face.
Wang Yueling stared at it for three seconds, then took a deep breath.
"No way." He withdrew his finger, his tone firm. "Don't try that. I won't soften my heart towards your uncle."
Luna buried her face in her paws and made a very small, breathy cry. The sound was short and muffled, much like a sob.
Wang Yueling was amused by it and tapped the tip of his nose, "You're being way too dramatic."
Luna lifted one eye from her paw to look at him, then turned her head away, leaving him with a cool, aloof back of her head.
But the tip of its tail was trembling violently, which meant it hadn't given up yet.
Wang Yueling chuckled and poked its ear, then picked up her phone. She sent a message to her assistant, forwarding the list the doctor had given her, and asked him to prepare the items tomorrow, sending one copy each to Wang Yue's residence and her grandmother's.
After sending the message, he leaned back on the sofa and scooped Luna onto his lap. The kitten circled around his lap a couple of times, then finally settled into a position and continued her efforts to untangle the Elizabethan collar.
Looking at its earnest little face, Wang Yueling mischievously decided to cause trouble...
Suddenly, I remembered the strange stories about various universities.
Things like owning a black cat that turns into a human and stalks you, or setting up a circle of candles and chanting spells at midnight...
Now, he really does have a black cat.
Even though it's just a kitten that hasn't been weaned yet, a black cat is still a black cat.
He looked down at the kitten, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. "Luna, how about Daddy takes you somewhere fun tomorrow?"
Luna's ears twitched, and she continued unhooking the rings.
"Yukimura Tsuki."
The kitten raised its head, looked at him with its heterochromatic eyes, and meowed, as if asking, "What's up?"
"I'll take you to Hyotei tomorrow."
Wang Yue Ling lowered her voice, a mischievous glint in her azure eyes, "Let those little guys see that Coach Wang Yue really does have a little black cat."
Luna raised her head, meowed at him, and wagged her tail gently.
"There's a rumor in Tokyo that my black cat can turn into a human. Luna, can you transform?" Mochizuki Ryo asked seriously.
"How about you transform one for your dad?"
Luna tilted her head, yawned, and revealed her little pink tongue.
"Sigh... what am I even expecting?" Wang Yueling sighed and scratched its chin. "Never mind, it's probably not going to happen."
"As long as you're healthy."
"I don't need you to keep watch over them. Just stay on the coach's bench and supervise. Let them know that the Demon King's little black cat is real. Use it to intimidate them during training."
Luna rested her head back in his hand, closed her eyes, and her tail slowly rose up, swaying gently in the air.
Wang Yueling laughed out loud at its "whatever" attitude.
"Okay, it's settled then."
He carefully placed Luna on the sofa, then got up and, following the instructions the nurse had given him, prepared a small pot of milk to give the kitten a snack.
Luna drank very quickly, getting a ring of baby hair around her mouth, and a few drops splashed onto Elizabeth's hood.
"Drink slowly." Wang Yueling reached out and wiped its mouth. "No one's going to take it from you."
After finishing her milk, Luna licked her lips and then let out a small burp. She looked up at Wang Yueling, her heterochromatic eyes shining brightly under the light.
Are you full?
"Meow." Luna stretched out her paw, tugged at his trouser leg, and tried to climb onto his knee.
Wang Yueling affectionately scooped it up and placed it back on his lap. Luna spun around on his lap twice, then lay down, resting her head in his hand and closing her eyes.
Wang Yueling looked down at it, her azure eyes shimmering with a soft light.
He picked up his phone and sent a message to Yukimura.
[Ling]: Luna has finished her milk. She's sleeping on my lap. (Little black cat sleeping with an Elizabethan collar.jpg)
The other side replied very quickly.
[Jingshi]: It's sleeping so soundly. Remember to apply the ointment on time.
[Ling]: Okay. You should go to sleep early too. I'll bring you something delicious tomorrow.
[Seishi]: Okay. (White cat lying down.jpg)
[Seiichi]: By the way, you said today that the French don't use umbrellas, and that rain is the sky's love letter.
[Ling]: Huh?!
[Seiichi]: So how many love letters did you receive today?
Wang Yueling stared at the message for several seconds, and the corners of her mouth slowly curled up.
[Ling]: Many letters. Each drop is a letter. (Little Golden Retriever standing in the rain, looking up.jpg)
[Seiichi]: Well... never mind, you should get some rest.
[Ling]: Goodnight. (Golden retriever lying next to white cat's bed.jpg)
Wangyue put her phone on the coffee table, looked down at the kitten that was fast asleep on her lap, its furry face peeking out and purring softly.
"moon."
He reached out and gently touched the tiny Doritos with his fingertips, muttering to himself, "When do you think I should confess my feelings to Seiichi?"
Luna's ears twitched, but he didn't wake up, nor did he give him an answer.
Wang Yueling smiled and looked up out the window.
The night in Kanagawa was deep and quiet. The rain had long since stopped, the sky was cloudless, and the bright full moon was adorned with twinkling stars, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene.
Looking at the bright moon, Wang Yueling thought of Luna's name, and then of how the kitten rubbed against his hand when Yukimura said "moon".
He picked up his phone, sent another message to Yukimura, and then went to wash up.
[Ling]: The moonlight is beautiful tonight.
The message notification bar on the other end paused for two seconds and then disappeared.
