Chapter 113 Bitcoin Top Escape
Chapter 113 Bitcoin Top Escape
On the day Bitcoin broke through $19,000, Su Yu held meetings at the company all day long.
When Kim Eun-sook knocked on the door for the third time, the meeting was still going on. Choi Min-soo was reporting on the progress of the preparations for the Japanese subsidiary, while Kim Dong-wook was adding information about media strategy. Su Yu saw Kim Eun-sook standing at the door with a troubled expression, said "Ten-minute break," and then followed her out.
In the hallway, Kim Eun-sook held her phone up to him. "Nineteen thousand two."
Su Yu glanced at it. "Hmm."
"To sell or not to sell?"
Su Yu didn't answer. He walked into his office and turned on his computer. The candlestick chart was still rising, with one red candle after another. He stared at the screen for more than ten seconds, then said one word: "Sell."
Kim Eun-sook paused, taken aback. "All of them?"
"all."
Kim Eun-sook sat down at the small desk next to her and began operating. Her hands were trembling; Su Yu noticed but said nothing. Orders were being completed one after another on the computer screen. The average price was 18,800, several hundred dollars lower than the current price, but Kim Eun-sook dared not wait any longer. After nearly an hour, all 3,500 bitcoins were sold.
Kim Eun-sook leaned back in her chair and let out a long sigh. "Total revenue... 132 million US dollars." She said this figure in a flat voice, as if she were reading a report.
Su Yu nodded. "Thank you for your hard work."
"Do you know what day it is today?" Kim Eun-sook asked, looking at him.
"Tuesday."
"I mean, have you calculated how many times your money has multiplied since you started with a few hundred dollars?"
"Not counted."
Kim Eun-sook stared at him for a few seconds, then shook her head. "I've worked in finance at Samsung for eight years, and I've never seen anyone like you." She stood up, walked to the door, and said, "I'm going to do the accounting."
The office fell silent. Su Yu leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. One hundred and thirty million US dollars. Adding the cash in the company's books, Yinuo Entertainment's cash reserves were now close to two hundred million US dollars. That was enough to make ten "Train to Busan" movies, or buy several small and medium-sized talent agencies. But he wasn't thinking about those things. He was thinking about something else—that in three days, Bitcoin would begin to plummet.
This wasn't something he learned through superpowers. It was memory.
A few days later, the news broke. Bitcoin had plummeted by 30%, the market was in an uproar, some people jumped off buildings, others went bankrupt. Kim Eun-sook was having lunch in the company cafeteria when she saw the news. She put down her chopsticks, took out her phone and sent a message to Su Yu: "Sold three days ago. How did you know?" Su Yu replied with one word: "Guess." Kim Eun-sook looked at that word, put her phone face down on the table, picked up her chopsticks and continued eating.
The news leaked anyway. Someone found a major investor selling off at a high price on the blockchain and followed the trail to South Korea. Kim Dong-wook received three calls from reporters asking, "Is Yinguo Entertainment involved in cryptocurrency investment?" Su Yu instructed him to give a unified response: "The company is operating normally and does not comment on market rumors."
When Su Yu got home that evening, Cai Xiubin was making spicy stir-fried pork in the kitchen. Su Yu changed her shoes and walked to the kitchen door.
"Sold the Bitcoin?" Tsai Hsiu-pin asked without turning his head.
How did you know?
"Kim Dong-wook said so." She turned down the stove, turned around, and asked, "How much did you earn?"
"One hundred and thirty million."
"Dollar?"
"Um."
Chae Soo-bin paused for a moment. "Then are you the richest young person in all of South Korea?"
"No. There are plenty of people richer than me."
"But they're not as handsome as you."
Su Yu's lips twitched slightly. Cai Xiubin smiled, turned back to continue cooking. The pork sizzled in the pan, and the range hood hummed. Su Yu leaned against the doorframe, watching her retreating figure, without saying a word.
"Su Yu".
"Um."
"Don't do such dangerous things again. Bitcoin goes up fast and down fast. I'm afraid you'll lose money."
"You won't lose money."
How did you know?
Su Yu thought for a moment. "I was lucky."
Cai Xiubin turned off the stove and served the food. "You always say it's luck. You're incredibly lucky." She walked over with the plate and stopped in front of him. "But it's okay. I believe you no matter what you do."
Su Yu took the plate and placed it on the table. The two sat down to eat. The spicy stir-fried pork was very spicy, and after a few bites, sweat beaded on Su Yu's forehead. Cai Xiubin handed him a tissue, which he used to wipe his brow before continuing to eat.
"Su Yu".
"Um."
"How are you going to spend that money?"
"How do you want to spend it?"
Cai Xiubin thought for a moment. "How about moving to a bigger house? The current one is enough."
"Then let's change it."
"Not now. I was just asking." She placed a piece of meat in his bowl. "You can decide how to spend the money you earn. As long as I have food and shelter, that's enough for me."
Su Yu looked at her. "Did you replace the refrigerator?"
Cai Xiubin paused for a moment, then smiled. "You still remember the refrigerator thing?"
"I'll buy it tomorrow."
"Are you really going to buy it?"
"Um."
Cai Xiubin smiled even wider, her eyes crinkling. "Then let's buy a double-door one. A bigger one."
"it is good."
After dinner, Su Yu washed the dishes. Cai Xiubin stood beside her, wiping the dishes. The two worked together seamlessly, one washing and the other wiping. The water flowed smoothly, and neither of them spoke. This quiet wasn't awkward; it was comfortable.
The phone vibrated on the dining table. Cai Xiubin glanced at it. "A message from Shirley."
Su Yu turned off the water, dried his hands, and went over to look. Shirley sent a message: "I heard you sold out? Good job. Congratulations." Su Yu replied with a "Mm". Shirley then said: "You made so much money, aren't you going to treat me to a meal?" Su Yu typed a few words: "Next time." Shirley sent an eye-rolling emoji.
Cai Xiubin, standing nearby, witnessed the conversation. "Aren't you going to invite her?"
"next time."
"When is the next time?"
Su Yu looked at her. "You want me to treat you?"
Cai Xiubin laughed. "It's not that I wanted to. It's that you owe her."
Su Yu didn't reply. He put his phone away and continued washing the dishes. Cai Xiubin didn't ask any more questions.
The next day, Su Yu went to the company, where Jin Dongxu was already waiting in the conference room. A stack of documents, all investment proposals, were spread out on the table.
"These are the projects that have recently come to us. Dramas, movies, variety shows, and two tech startups." Kim Dong-wook pointed to the top few. "This drama is good, it airs on SBS, but the investment is large. This movie is directed by a new director, and I've read the script; it's very solid."
Su Yu flipped through them. "Those two tech company applications, what sector are they in?"
"One AI, one biotechnology."
"Put it aside for now. Film and television projects take priority."
Kim Dong-wook nodded. "Also, A24 asked if we have any ideas for our next co-production."
Su Yu thought for a moment. "Tell them to do it next year. Let's finish filming 'The Last Song' this year."
Kim Dong-wook noted it down and then asked, "You made so much money from selling that Bitcoin, aren't you planning to do something else? Like go public?"
"No."
"Investing in real estate?"
"I won't vote."
Kim Dong-wook laughed. "So what exactly do you want?"
Su Yu looked at him. "Make the company bigger. I don't want anything else."
Kim Dong-wook shook his head, took the documents, and left. Su Yu sat in the conference room, looking out at the Han River. Sunlight shone on the water, shattering into golden fragments. He remembered Kim Eun-sook saying, "You're so lucky," remembered Chae Soo-bin saying, "I'll believe you no matter what you do," remembered Sulli saying, "You owe her." These thoughts circled around him, and he stood up, returning to his office to continue reviewing the documents.
That evening, Su Yu and Cai Xiubin went to an appliance store. Standing in the refrigerator section, the sales assistant enthusiastically introduced the various models. Cai Xiubin took a liking to a double-door stainless steel refrigerator, touched the door handle, and opened it to look inside.
"This is big enough," she said.
Su Yu glanced at the price. "Buy."
"Why don't you compare something else?"
"Need not."
Cai Xiubin laughed. "You're certainly generous when it comes to spending money."
Spend money when you should.
The sales assistant wrote out the receipt, and Su Yu swiped her card. Cai Xiubin stood beside her, looking at the numbers on the bill, blinked, and remained silent.
After leaving the store, the two walked down the street. The winter wind was cold, and Cai Xiubin hunched her shoulders, putting her hands inside Su Yu's coat pockets.
"Su Yu".
"Um."
Do you think we'll always be like this?
"What?"
"It's just like this now. You're here, I'm here, everything's ordinary."
Su Yu thought for a moment. "Yes."
"You promise?"
"ensure."
Cai Xiubin smiled, took her hand out of her pocket, and took his arm. The two walked slowly home, their shadows stretched long by the streetlights.
The refrigerator arrived the next day. Cai Xiubin moved the items from the old refrigerator over one by one, wiped the shelves of the new refrigerator, and arranged the food neatly. Su Yu stood beside her, watching her work.
"The ice maker works great now." Cai Xiubin poured herself a glass of water, and ice cubes tumbled down. She took a sip and squinted her eyes. "Iced water is so delicious."
Su Yu's lips curved slightly. It was dark outside, but the kitchen light was bright. Cai Xiubin leaned against the sink, holding a glass of ice water, watching him. Su Yu walked over, took the glass, placed it aside, and hugged her.
"What's wrong?" Cai Xiubin looked up.
"It's nothing."
Cai Xiubin didn't ask any more questions and pressed her face against his chest. The kitchen was quiet, with only the soft, steady hum of the refrigerator.
