Chapter 44 The Root of Chaos
Chapter 44 The Root of Chaos
Fenglinxing is located at the station in the western part of the Thousand Vine Dome.
"drop--"
The identity verification device emitted a sound indicating successful identification. The mechanical gate was still slowly sliding, and two large hands had already impatiently grasped the edges of the gate and pushed it open to both sides.
A towering, four-armed man rushed in and blocked the path of the nearest Luling tribe staff member.
"Where is Sierra?"
The staff member who was startled by the sudden darkness was only able to regain his composure after looking up and seeing the face of the person and the uniform of the Administration Bureau.
"Mr. Lanceley? Mr. Sielley is currently undergoing routine checks at the medical station. I'll take you there."
"Okay, thank you for your help."
Upon hearing that it was a routine check-up, Lance knew that his nephew was fine; otherwise, he would have had to undergo surgery.
As the two walked one after the other to the entrance of the medical station, they saw Sielly nestled affectionately beside his fiancée as they walked out of the station.
"Sierra!"
Siel was startled when his name was called, and then he saw the man in the iron tower not far in front of him.
"Uncle? What brings you here?"
"It's all because of you, kid."
Seeing that his nephew was safe and sound, Lance finally felt completely relieved. His gaze passed over Xi Yeli and met that of Cheng Xu, who was a few steps behind.
"This must be Cheng Xu? I'm Lance Li from the Special Operations Division of the Yuanguang Star Branch."
"Cheng Xu, First Division of Abnormal Control, Chengmingxing Branch."
Lance quickly stepped forward, bent down slightly, and tightly grasped Cheng Xu's hands with all four of his.
"Thank you for saving them. My older brother only has this one child. He has been stationed in the Dark Stream for many years. If something had happened to Siel, I really wouldn't know how to explain it to my older brother."
"You're welcome, it was nothing."
Upon hearing the name "Deep Dark Stream of Light," Cheng Xu's expression shifted slightly, and he couldn't help but glance at Xi Yeli a few more times.
The Dark Streamer is located in a rift in space and is closely related to a catastrophic anomaly. It is the front line in directly confronting dangerous anomalies.
Lance looked around and noticed that many staff members and tourists were attracted by the commotion. He immediately pointed behind him.
"This isn't the place to talk, let's go somewhere else."
Five minutes later, in a quiet room in the center of the station.
Besides Cheng Xu and the three members of the Haoli tribe, several rescue team members from the Luling tribe and the person in charge of the site were all present.
After Lance's explanation, Siel finally understood why his uncle had arrived so quickly—
Upon encountering the unexpected situation, Fenglinxing immediately contacted the Yuanguangxing branch office to report the situation.
Lance, who was the director of the Special Operations Division of the branch office, happened to be on a planet near Fenglin Star when he received an urgent communication from the branch office. Remembering that his nephew was on Fenglin Star at the moment, he rushed over anxiously.
As his spaceship approached near-Earth orbit around Fenglin Star, he made contact with the command center on Fenglin Star. After learning of the situation, he landed directly near the western station of the Thousand Vine Dome.
"What exactly happened on Fenglin Star?"
Lance looked at the captain of the rescue team.
The occurrence of large-scale irrational anomalies on the planet is one of the signs of anomalies, and falls under the jurisdiction of the Anomaly Management Bureau.
"We were completely baffled at first. There has never been a similar situation in the historical records of our Luling tribe."
The rescue team leader gave a wry smile.
He laid out all the information that the Fenglin Star authorities currently possessed, including the outward manifestations of this chaos and the Luling Clan's countermeasures.
Upon hearing that his nephew had encountered danger in an unauthorized area, and seeing Siel's evasive gaze, Lance immediately guessed what his nephew was up to.
He glared at Sielly with annoyance, but didn't say anything more.
"Based on the current analysis results, we have a vague inference."
The rescue team leader's expression darkened slightly.
"This emergency is very likely related to the water source."
As he spoke, he handed the two documents to Lance and Cheng Xu.
Lance flipped through the documents, his brow furrowed. Cheng Xu nodded as he spoke:
"Your deduction is not without merit."
In this document, the Fenglin Star Command Center compiled a list of native species and their corresponding numbers that exhibited abnormal migration phenomena.
Moss Giant Toad, Swamp Crocodile Dragon, Bone-Eating Coral, Venomous Gland Python...
More than 90 percent of the species are aquatic or semi-aquatic organisms, whose living environment is closely related to water.
In this chaos, these species left their habitats and even tried to force their way through the protective barriers despite the low-voltage current.
At the same time, Cheng Xu also realized why the Lu Ling people present did not look very good.
Fenglinxing's tourism landscape is inseparable from its water resources; its numerous lakes, marshes, and wetlands are all important components of Fenglinxing's ecosystem.
If the water source is indeed the problem, it will inevitably deal a heavy blow to Fenglinxing's pillar industry, tourism.
"Based on the examination results of these creatures, they have all fallen into a state of intermittent mania and low intelligence, and their aggression has increased."
The rescue team leader continued:
"Based on the results of bodily fluid tests, no toxic or hallucinogenic substances have been found in their bodies so far. Water samples taken from their original habitat also showed no abnormalities."
Cheng Xu and Lance Li exchanged a glance.
"Beep beep beep—" The communication device next to the rescue team leader lit up.
"It's Officer Madeline."
The call connected, and a fast-paced female voice came from the other end: "Is Director Lanceley over there?"
"Madeline, I'm here."
Under Madeline's instructions, the rescue team leader activated the projection function on the communication device, and a middle-aged Luling woman with flowing hair appeared on the projected screen.
"The situation is urgent, so I'll keep it brief."
Madeline stepped aside, revealing the virtual map of Fenglin Star behind her.
"We've just made a new discovery."
"If we connect the original habitats of anomalous species into a single area, and then fit the different levels of agitation and aggression of each species..."
"This will allow us to obtain a habitat map corresponding to the degree of impact on the species."
Different colored gradients appear on the virtual map, forming irregular ring-shaped patterns.
Like the contour lines of a mountain.
The area at the very center of the circular pattern, which is the "mountain top" position, is highlighted.
This area is where the native organisms were most deeply affected by the abnormal situation and had the worst mental stability during this chaos.
In other words, the location corresponding to this area is most likely the root cause of the chaos.
"Where is this place?" Cheng Xu and Lance asked in unison.
On the other end of the communication line, Madeline waved her hand, and the virtual map switched to a satellite view.
As the camera zoomed in, a dilapidated complex of buildings surrounded by a gray-green swamp came into view.
"This is a relic left by the ancient Luling tribe dynasty eight thousand years ago, officially named by us as:"
"The Lost City of the Deep Swamp"
