Chapter 189 Xiaodie drags Wuming to buy tonics
Xiaodie went to the backyard alone. The backyard was quiet and peaceful. The flowers and plants swayed gently in the breeze, emitting a faint fragrance.
But Xiaodie had no heart to appreciate the beautiful scenery. She stood quietly by the flower bushes, staring blankly at the flowers and plants in front of her, as if she were lost in thought.
Her small lips unconsciously pouted slightly, her brows furrowed tightly, and her eyes were filled with a mixture of worry and heartache.
Xiaodie slowly raised her hands, pressed them tightly together in front of her chest, gently closed her eyes, her long eyelashes casting a small shadow on her eyelids, her lips moved slightly as she murmured something, her voice soft yet filled with endless earnestness and expectation.
She murmured to herself, "Heavens above, please protect Miss and keep her safe. Please don't let anything happen to her. Miss is the closest person to me in this world. She is kind-hearted and shouldn't suffer any hardship. Also, please, please protect her and the child in her womb so they can both be safe and sound. Please, please, please don't let anything else happen to them! Please, please." As she spoke, her brows furrowed even more, as if if she were sincere enough, Heaven would hear her prayers and grant her wishes.
Wuming was leisurely strolling in the backyard when he saw Xiaodie standing alone by the flower bushes, her hands clasped together, her eyes closed, and she was muttering something to herself. Her eccentric appearance really puzzled him.
He tilted his head slightly, his brows furrowing unconsciously, his eyes filled with curiosity as he wondered what this little girl was up to. Thinking this, he tiptoed towards Xiaodie, and when he reached her from behind, he reached out and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.
Xiaodie was engrossed in her prayers and had no idea someone was approaching. This sudden appearance startled her, and she immediately screamed, "Ah!" The sharp, loud sound echoed in the quiet backyard.
Seeing this, Wuming frowned helplessly, staring intently at Xiaodie with a look that contained both helplessness at her overreaction and a hint of teasing.
Xiaodie, still shaken, patted her chest. When she saw that it was Wuming standing before her, she was furious. She instantly frowned, put her hands on her hips, raised her chin slightly, and said disdainfully, "Wuming?! You—who are you trying to scare to death! You walk without making a sound, are you a cat?!"
Upon hearing this, Wuming's lips curled up slightly, a half-smile playing on his lips. He crossed his arms and looked at Xiaodie with a leisurely air, slowly replying, "Oh, I'd like to ask you something. What are you chanting all by yourself here? Like a shaman, I thought you were exorcising a ghost. In broad daylight, aren't you afraid of scaring the people around you?"
Upon hearing this, Xiaodie's eyes widened, her face flushed with anger. She stepped forward, pointed at Wuming's nose, and said, "Hmph, what business is it of yours that I'm sincerely praying here! Unlike you, who idles away your days, never doing anything productive! I don't know what you do all day, just spouting nonsense. With that free time, you should do something worthwhile!"
Wuming raised an eyebrow, completely ignoring Xiaodie's accusations. Instead, he chuckled and teased, "Oh ho, how come I haven't been doing anything serious? I just noticed your strange appearance and kindly came to ask. But the way you're praying, it's like you've been chanting to the heavens until their ears are calloused. I wonder who you're so concerned about? Could it be that you've found someone you like and are praying for a marriage?"
Xiaodie was so angry at his words that she stomped her feet and waved her hands in the air like a cat with its fur standing on end. She retorted loudly, "What nonsense are you talking about! It's not what you think. I was praying for Miss, hoping that she and the baby in her belly would be safe and sound. Unlike you, who are full of crooked thoughts and only know how to make up stories about people!"
Seeing Xiaodie's angry expression, Wuming couldn't help but laugh. He quickly waved his hand and said, "Alright, alright, I was wrong. I was just joking with you. Don't be angry. It's not worth getting upset. By the way, why are you praying for the princess all of a sudden?"
Xiaodie frowned, her face still showing lingering fear, and said angrily, "What do you mean 'for no good'? You don't know, today, Miss climbed up a tree herself to help the young prince get his kite, which was stuck there. She wasn't careful and almost fell! The scene terrified me. Luckily, the Sixth Prince happened to be passing by and caught her just in time. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable!" As she spoke, she patted her chest, still shaken.
Upon hearing this, Wuming's eyes widened in shock. He asked urgently, "What! You said... the princess fell from the tree! Is it true?" His voice unconsciously rose a few decibels, his eyes were full of worry, his brows were tightly furrowed, and he leaned forward slightly, as if this would allow him to know the whole story more quickly.
Xiaodie gave him a disgruntled look, crossed her arms, turned her head away, and said petulantly, "Why would I lie to you! Of course it's true!"
Upon hearing what Xiaodie had said, Wuming's face turned deathly pale. He stumbled and almost lost his balance, swaying several times before managing to steady himself.
His brows furrowed instantly, his eyes filled with anxiety and worry, as if the sky were about to fall. Without a word, he turned and prepared to run towards Lin Qianqian's room, his steps hurried and chaotic, wanting only to quickly confirm whether Lin Qianqian was alright.
Xiaodie reacted swiftly, rushing forward and grabbing Wuming's arm, her face stern and unwavering. She spread her arms wide and asked urgently, "Where are you going!"
Wuming was taken aback when he was stopped. He looked anxiously at Xiaodie, his brows furrowing even more, and said resolutely, "I'll go see the Princess!"
Xiaodie quickly reached out to stop her again, and hurriedly said, "No!"
Upon hearing this, Wuming's eyes widened, his face filled with confusion and anxiety. He raised his voice and asked, "Why?"
Xiaodie frowned slightly, pursed her lips, and said helplessly, "The Princess and the Prince are inside. If you go over now, wouldn't that disturb them? That's not appropriate."
Upon hearing this, Wuming's face immediately lit up with disbelief, and he blurted out, "What?"
Seeing Wuming's anxious and reluctant expression, Xiaodie felt both amused and annoyed. She stepped forward, grabbed his arm, and said with a firm tone that left no room for refusal, "Oh dear, I just can't! Come with me to buy some tonics for Miss. That's the important thing, so Miss can take some tonics."
Although Wuming was extremely unwilling, his eyes kept glancing towards Lin Qianqian's room, and his feet seemed rooted to the spot. However, he couldn't resist Xiaodie's increasingly strong grip on his hand, and he was dragged outside by Xiaodie.
As he was being led away, he kept looking back, his reluctance making it seem as if he would never see Lin Qianqian again.
Xiaodie, however, ignored everything, gritted her teeth, and used all her strength to pull him away, muttering to herself that she should hurry up and leave.
The two arrived at a shop called "Yangyuantang," which is quite famous in the area for selling all kinds of health supplements.
As soon as she entered the store, Xiaodie became completely absorbed as she wandered among the shelves, carefully selecting supplements. She would pick up one and examine it closely, then look at another, her expression incredibly focused, as if she were choosing the most precious treasure in the world.
Seeing Xiaodie's expression, Wuming couldn't help but roll his eyes, his face full of helplessness, and he muttered to himself that Xiaodie was taking things too seriously.
Xiaodie picked up a box of supplements, turned to look at Wuming, her eyes sparkling with anticipation, and asked, "Hey, what do you think of this! And this one? Ah..."
Wuming leaned listlessly against the counter, waved his hand lazily, and casually replied, "I don't know, you figure it out." His tone was somewhat irritable, thinking that since he couldn't make a decision anyway, he might as well just ignore it.
After saying that, Wuming stood up straight and walked towards the door, saying as he went, "Hurry up and buy it, I'll wait for you outside."
Xiaodie looked at Wuming's nonchalant attitude and was speechless again. She shook her head helplessly and muttered under her breath, "Hmph, I really can't count on you." But she didn't pay any more attention to him and continued to pick things out.
Not long after, Xiaodie emerged from the store, carrying several large bags. She looked up at Wuming standing at the door, a hint of smugness on her face, and gestured with her chin, saying, "Let's go!"
Wuming stared wide-eyed at the pile of things in Xiaodie's hands, his face full of surprise, and blurted out, "That's too much! You bought so many!"
Upon hearing this, Xiaodie immediately frowned, lifted the things in her hands, and said matter-of-factly, "What do you know? Miss is pregnant now! Her body is very precious! She has to eat for two, so how can we not buy more? She has to take good care of herself."
Upon hearing this, Wuming opened his mouth, wanting to retort, but then felt that Xiaodie's words seemed to make sense. For a moment, he was speechless and could only look at Xiaodie helplessly, his expression quite comical.
Wuming crossed his arms and walked ahead with his head down, his steps quick and hurried, as if he were sulking with someone.
Xiaodie struggled to carry the large and small bags behind her, walking with great difficulty. She looked up at the nameless figure in front of her and couldn't help but call out, "Hey, can you help me carry some?" Her voice was urgent and tinged with a hint of complaint.
When Wuming heard Xiaodie's call, he paused for a moment, sighed helplessly, turned around, his brows furrowed slightly, and his face full of reluctance. However, he still reached out and took the packages Xiaodie handed him. Without saying a word, he turned around and strode forward again, as if he didn't want to stay for even a second longer.
Seeing this, Xiaodie quickly quickened her pace to catch up, calling out as she ran, "Hey, why are you walking so fast? Wait for me!" Her face flushed slightly with anxiety, her lips pursed, and her eyes were full of helplessness. But Wuming seemed not to hear her, continuing to walk forward without turning his head. His back view exuded a stubbornness that made Xiaodie stomp her feet in anger, but she couldn't do anything about it. She could only helplessly continue to chase after him, muttering a few complaints under her breath from time to time.
