Chapter 97 Return
Chapter 97 Return
After resting for two hours, the leader of the Imperial Guards ordered his men to cook a meal so they could continue their journey.
Even the bandits were given half a bowl of gruel, which moved them so much that their eyes almost popped out of their sockets; they had thought these people wouldn't give them any food.
I never expected to get half a bowl of rice porridge.
We set off before dawn, the ground was frozen solid, making the journey easier.
Listening to the sounds of horses' hooves and cart wheels on the road outside, Su Yue leaned out the window and looked out.
Noticing that the moon was quite round, I casually asked the maid beside me, "Do you know what day it is today?"
Qiaoxiang was the oldest of the three maids, and she was over sixteen years old this year. She thought for a while before speaking: "Reporting to the Immortal Envoy, today is already the sixteenth day of the twelfth lunar month. The New Year will be here in a few days."
Looking at the big moon in the sky, Su Yue thought, "No wonder the moon is so round today; the New Year is almost here!"
She's been in this world for several months now, and she doesn't know if she'll be able to go back.
During the day, Su Yue was reading in the carriage when she was stopped by a group of bandits. Her heart tightened, and she almost dropped the book in her hand.
She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.
There are quite a few bandits on this road. We've only gone a short distance before we've been stopped again.
Is this like raiding a bandit's den in space?
There weren't many bandits this time. Only forty or fifty, much fewer than the group that came later.
Su Yue didn't even get off the bus, but she heard the bandits in front of her shouting in their rough voices that they wanted something.
A member of the Imperial Guard rode up to the outside of the carriage, knocked on the window, and waited for a reply before bowing and saying, "Reporting to the Immortal Envoy, another group of bandits is coming to rob us. We wonder if we should stop them this time."
"Keep them here. Interrogate them carefully to see if they've eaten any pork. If they have, don't keep them. Take some men to the bandit's den and bring back the rest of the people and their belongings. If they really don't obey, just kill them!" Su Yue didn't even look up, continuing to read the book in her hands.
"Yes." The imperial guards outside obeyed the order and rode back, relaying Su Yue's whispered words to their leader.
The commander of the Imperial Guard nodded to indicate that he understood, and then issued the order.
Without Su Yue's help this time, the fight took a long time, and several people escaped.
The bandit leader, Da Biao, and the skinny monkey squatted together, craning their necks to look ahead.
It was making "tsk tsk" noises, so it seems it needs company.
"Boss, do you think they're stupid?! Can't they see how many people there are, yet they keep rushing this way." Skinny Monkey stretched his long head out, looking at the fighting ahead, showing no intention of running away.
Even if they did, they wouldn't dare to touch it. Didn't you see that the female demon didn't move?
"I think you're the one who's stupid, so shut your mouth!" The bandit leader, Da Biao, would have loved to beat this skinny monkey again if his arm hadn't hurt so much he couldn't lift it.
He himself said that those people were stupid, which is tantamount to admitting that he was just as stupid.
Back then, they were just a bunch of rabble. Seeing so many people, they actually dared to rush out and rob them. In the end, they were the ones who got kidnapped. They were so humiliated. And this skinny, clueless guy still had to point it out to remind him.
The fierce battle that had just taken place ended in the blink of an eye, and the bandits lying on the ground, howling in pain, were all in a sorry state.
He was then ruthlessly taken by the Imperial Guards to the bandit group that Da Biao and Shouhou belonged to.
Hand these new bandits over to them to guard. If any of them dare to escape, break their legs and throw them up in the mountains to feed the wild animals.
The commander of the Imperial Guards came to report the battle situation to Su Yue with a serious expression. After finishing, he led twenty or thirty elite soldiers in a grand procession toward the bandits' lair, determined to capture all the remaining people in the bandit den.
Su Yue and the others rested where they were and waited for others.
The newly recruited bandits were surrounded by several of Da Biao's men, who told them not to make a sound, lest they anger the female demon in the front carriage and get a beating when they got off.
Da Biao looked around, feeling very irritated.
"Shut up, all of you! If you shout again, I'll cut out your tongues!" Da Biao threatened viciously.
The bandits immediately fell silent, fearing that Da Biao would actually make a move.
They didn't know that this group of people were also a band of bandits; they thought they were just people guarding them.
Just as dawn broke, the sound of horses' hooves came from afar; the Imperial Guards who had gone out were returning.
Sure enough, a short while later, the Imperial Guards returned with the other bandits they had captured.
"Immortal Envoy, all the bandits have been captured," the Imperial Guard leader reported to Su Yue.
Su Yue nodded. "Very good. Go get something to eat and rest. We'll set off again this afternoon."
By the time Su Yue was almost at her destination, she had already encountered five or six groups of robbers along the way.
After all these people were beaten into submission, they followed behind the carriage. Su Yue planned to pick up Dali and then send them to General Liang Rong.
Since Su Yue fled Ping'an Town, several towns nearby have been occupied by the Xiongnu.
Even General Lü, who was once invincible, died on the battlefield resisting the Xiongnu.
Su Yue longed for a peaceful life, dreaming of farming, strolling through the streets, and living a good life.
He didn't want to be a refugee again, and he certainly didn't want the new dynasty he had just established to become someone else's meal.
The Xiongnu need to go back, otherwise, if they grow stronger and start a war, when will they ever be able to live a peaceful life?
Before Su Yue even arrived at the refugee camp, she could see from afar that something seemed to have changed.
This place seems more like a large village, with about a hundred more houses now.
Even the path leading in was much smoother.
Wait, why is there a rock gazing at the sky?
Upon closer inspection, the crouching object resembling a cradle stone gradually became clearer, and she was surprised to discover that it was none other than Dali, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
A strange excitement welled up inside me, as if something deep within my heart had been touched.
Without hesitation, Su Yue lifted the curtain of the carriage and flew straight toward the towering Wangtian Stone.
The wind whistled in her ears, but her gaze remained fixed on that familiar figure.
"Dali," she called out, her voice filled with longing and joy.
Dali, who was squatting on the ground and still lost in thought while gazing at the sky, suddenly heard that familiar call. It was like a lightning bolt flashing through her mind. She wondered if she had misheard, after all, she hadn't heard A-Yue's voice for so long.
"Dali, I'm back!" Su Yue called out again, her voice filled with joy.
She heard another sound and turned around sharply to see Ah Yue flying towards her.
Dali finally realized what was happening. She quickly rubbed her eyes, afraid that she was seeing things.
However, when she looked closely, it was indeed A-Yue running towards her, and the sense of reality almost brought her to tears.
Dali stood up and ran towards Su Yue as if the wind was on his feet, instantly shortening the distance between them.
Finally, Dali hugged Su Yue tightly, as if he wanted to bring back all the longing he had felt during those days of separation.
