Chapter 245 Regret Like Her
Chapter 245 Regret Like Her
Deep within the Black Iron Forge, Russell and Lisa stood before a colossal device, speechless with awe at the sight before them. The device soared into the clouds, its surface covered in twisted runes and shimmering warp energy. Its existence seemed to transcend reality, instilling an indescribable sense of oppression.
“This…this is the real device.” Lisa’s voice trembled slightly. “The tower we found before was just a projection of it.”
Russell frowned, his eyes filled with vigilance: "We must destroy it, or the entire Nest City will fall under the control of Chaos."
---
Just as the two were about to act, Kayans emerged from the shadows. He wore a mocking smile and stared at them coldly.
“Russell, Lisa, you two really surprise me.” Kayans’ voice was low and full of sarcasm. “But this device is not something you can destroy.”
Lisa's eyes flashed with anger: "Kayans, your scheme will not succeed!"
Kayans sneered, a hint of disdain in his voice: "A conspiracy? No, it's fate. Lisa, I know you've contacted those gleaming silver knights. Where are they?"
---
Suddenly, Kayans raised his hand, and a bolt of purple lightning shot from his fingertip, striking Lisa directly in the body. Lisa let out a painful groan, her body trembled violently, and then she collapsed limply to the ground.
"Lisa!" Russell roared, charging towards Cayans, his Bloodthirster shovel striking at her head like lightning.
Kayans easily dodged, a hint of mockery in his voice: "Russell, don't be impulsive. She'll be dead in three days. Unless... you're willing to join us."
Russell's eyes were filled with anger and pain: "Kayans, you madman! Why did you do this?"
Kayans' smile faded, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes: "Russell, this is your last chance. Join us, or watch her die."
---
Kayans's figure gradually disappeared into the rift in the warp, leaving only Russell and Lisa standing there. Russell quickly picked up Lisa, his eyes filled with anxiety.
“Lisa, hold on! I will save you.” Russell’s voice trembled slightly.
Lisa's face was pale, and her voice was weak: "Russell... don't worry about me... destroying the device... is the most important thing."
Deep within the ruins of the hive city, Lisa leaned weakly against the wall, her face as pale as paper. Her breathing was shallow, fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, and purple lightning flickered beneath her skin, like a venomous snake gnawing at her life. Her fingers trembled as she tried to pick up the data board to contact the Grey Knight, only to find the screen shattered and the circuit board completely destroyed.
“Russell!” Lisa’s voice was weak but filled with anger, her eyes fixed on Russell standing to the side. “What…what did you do?”
Russell was silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "I can't watch you die. I know Kayans; if the Grey Knights come, you're doomed. If they don't, you might have a chance. I will definitely find a way to save you."
---
A flicker of disappointment crossed Lisa's eyes. Though her voice was weak, it remained firm: "Russell, you've been corrupted by the demons! You are a warrior of the Empire, and I am an Inquisitor. Our duty is to serve the Empire! Destroying that device is more important than my own life!"
Russell clenched his fists, his voice filled with suppressed rage: "Lisa, you're not just a judge, you're also a woman, someone's daughter, and my friend! I can't just stand by and watch you die!"
---
Their argument echoed through the ruins, a tense atmosphere filling the air. Lisa tried to stand, but her weakened body caused her to collapse back to the ground. Her voice trembled with a sob: "Russell, you're betraying the Empire! You're betraying your beliefs!"
A flicker of pain crossed Russell's eyes, but his tone remained firm: "I didn't betray you! I just... I just didn't want to lose you. Lisa, you're more important to me than any mission."
Tears welled up in Lisa's eyes, and her voice trembled: "Russell, you're too stubborn... Do you know that if the device isn't destroyed, the entire Nest City will fall under the control of chaos? Do you know that countless people will die because of this?"
Russell's voice was low and resolute: "I know. But I believe we can find a way that benefits both of us. I will not abandon you, nor will I abandon the mission."
Two days of arguing had nearly exhausted Lisa. Her body grew weaker and weaker, purple lightning crackling beneath her skin, as if announcing her life was slipping away. Strong as she was, she finally broke down at this moment. Tears streamed down her face, her voice weak and desperate: "Russell…why…why did you do this…"
Russell knelt beside her, gently taking her hand in his, his voice choked with emotion: "Lisa, believe me. I will save you. I won't let you die."
Deep within the ruins of the hive, Russell's voice echoed like thunder: "Kayans! Come out!" His roar was a mixture of anger and despair, as if it wanted to tear the darkness apart.
The air distorted, and Kayans' figure slowly emerged from the rift in the warp. A mocking smile played on his lips as he stared coldly at Russell.
“Russell, didn’t you say you two were just friends?” Kayans’s voice was laced with sarcasm. “Why are you so concerned about her? Do you know that when she swore her oath to become an Inquisitor, she already thought about this day? And you, you’re still foolishly helping her—an inquisitor with a heart of stone.”
A flicker of pain crossed Russell's eyes, his voice low and hoarse: "Kayans, let her go. I know you have no interest in her. Release her, and I'll join Tzeentch."
Kayans sneered, a hint of disdain in his voice: "Russell, you can't lie. I won't save her. Goodbye."
His figure gradually disappeared into the rift in the warp, leaving only Russell and Lisa standing there. Russell clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms, blood dripping from between his fingers.
"Kayans! You coward! You traitor!" Russell's roar echoed through the ruins, but his voice was filled with more helplessness and despair.
Lisa's body grew weaker and weaker, purple lightning spreading beneath her skin as if announcing her life was slipping away. Her breathing was faint, her voice barely audible: "Russell... I know I'm going to die."
Tears welled up in Russell's eyes. He knelt beside Lisa and gently embraced her. "Lisa, don't speak. You'll be alright. I'll save you."
Lisa gave a bitter smile: "Russell... I am indeed a woman. I also hope... to die in your arms."
Russell's tears fell onto Lisa's cheeks, his voice choked with emotion: "Lisa, I'm sorry... I couldn't protect you."
…………
Kayans's figure slowly emerged from the rift in the warp once more, a mocking smile on his face, his gaze coldly fixed on Russell and Lisa. His voice was deep and sarcastic, as if he were watching a play.
"Tsk tsk, how touching." Kayans' voice carried a hint of teasing. "Russell, you're still the same, willing to do anything for your friend. You successfully won her a chance to live. You humans are really clueless, lacking any strength yet daring to venture into dangerous places, you're practically courting death."
A resolute glint flashed in Russell's eyes, and his voice was deep and powerful: "This is why the human empire has survived. We may be weak, but our faith and unity enable us to overcome anything."
Kayans sneered, his tone tinged with disdain: "My master, Saint Ives, wants me to sacrifice this world, but I don't think so. If all the worlds are offered up to Chaos, then this world will have no meaning."
A complex emotion flashed in Kayans's eyes. He slowly raised his hand, and a beam of eerie blue light shot from his fingertips, striking Lisa directly in the body. Lisa's body trembled slightly, the purple lightning gradually dissipated, and her breathing became steady.
“Take her away.” Kayans’ voice was tinged with weariness. “I will help you destroy this device.”
A flicker of gratitude crossed Russell's eyes, and his voice trembled slightly: "Thank you, Cayans. But I will never join Chaos."
Kayans smiled, a hint of mockery in his voice: "I know. But not forever."
Russell picked up Lisa and quickly left the core area of the device. The moment they stepped out of the ruins, a deafening roar echoed behind them. The Chaos Device collapsed with a crash, the warp energy dissipating into the air as if it had never existed.
