Chapter 238 The Demon's Attack
Chapter 238 The Demon's Attack
The demons of Khorne did not fully obey Abaddon's orders.
The Bloodthirsty Demon's eyes burned with an insatiable thirst for blood; he saw Abaddon's caution as blasphemy against the God of Blood. Thus, with the help of Tzeentch's cunning schemes, the Bloodthirsty Demon decided to lead his demonic legions in a surprise attack on the human garrison on Vigilant Planet.
A rift in the warp suddenly tore open on the surface of the Vigilant Planet, and countless crimson vampires, Khorne Knights, Khorne Skullcutters, and Khorne Bloodhoof poured out from it. Their roars were deafening, like thunder, and the weapons in their hands gleamed with a scarlet light, as if they craved blood and slaughter.
Caught completely off guard, the Astragalus fell into chaos. The Vampires brandished flaming weapons, reaping human lives with frenzied abandon. Khorne Knights, riding massive demonic steeds, charged the Astragalus lines, each charge sending a spray of blood down their spines. Khorne Skullcrushers smashed everything in their path with their enormous chain maces, while Khorne Bloodwalkers burned away humanity's hopes with flames and blades.
"For the Blood God!" The bloodthirsty madman's roar echoed across the battlefield. His figure was like a moving tower of destruction, leaving nothing but desolation in his wake.
---
Russell stood at the very front of the position, as countless vampires swarmed towards him.
His "Fire Kirin" laser gun continuously spewed deadly energy beams, while his Bloodthirsty entrenching tool drew deadly arcs through the air. His figure moved like lightning, swiftly weaving through the vampires, each attack claiming the life of a demon.
"Russell, be careful!" Leos's voice came through the communicator, his tone urgency.
Russell nodded, a cold glint in his eyes: "Don't worry, these demons can't do anything to me."
However, there were simply too many vampires. They surged toward Russell like a tidal wave, attempting to overwhelm him with their numbers.
Russell swiftly dodged, and the Blood Drinker's entrenching tool struck a vampire's head like lightning, cleaving it in two.
"Received Courage Badge x1." The system notification sounded in Russell's mind.
---
Just then, a powerful, gigantic vampire appeared in Russell's field of vision. He was five meters tall, wielding a giant sword that burned with flames, his cloak was covered with skulls, and his eyes gleamed with a scarlet light.
"Human, your head will become a sacrifice to the Blood God!" the giant vampire roared, his voice filled with rage.
Russell sneered, a hint of fighting spirit flashing in his eyes: "Then let's give it a try!"
The two figures rapidly approached each other, and battle was about to break out. With each swing of the giant vampire's flaming greatsword, a burst of scorching flames would erupt, while Russell's Blooddrinker entrenching tool would strike at the opponent's vitals like a bolt of lightning.
"Imperial Protection!" Russell roared, instantly activating his skill. His body was enveloped in a layer of golden light, and his strength, speed, and reaction speed instantly reached their peak.
"Soul of the Serpent!" Russell roared again, unleashing boundless power in an instant. His entrenching tool struck the giant vampire's chest like lightning, tearing through its armor.
However, the giant vampire's power was simply too great. Every swing of his flaming greatsword sent a scorching pressure through Russell. Even with the combined protection of "Imperial Protection" and "Soul of the Serpent," Russell's body still couldn't completely withstand the opponent's attacks.
"Fearless War God!" Russell roared, instantly activating his new skill. His body was enveloped in a layer of golden light, and his strength, speed, and reaction ability instantly increased by 500%.
However, even so, Russell was still unable to defeat the giant vampire.
When Russell used this skill, the giant vampire also felt threatened. Unlike the orc war leader, who was as clumsy as a sitting duck, this guy was very agile. After dodging Russell's attacks several times, he found that the human's momentum had weakened and immediately counterattacked.
The flaming greatsword slashed down fiercely, and Russell had no choice but to take the hit head-on. The immense force knocked Russell to the ground.
"Human, your power is not enough!" the giant vampire roared, swinging its flaming greatsword once more.
Russell swiftly dodged, but the shockwave from the greatsword still left a deep crack in his power armor. He was knocked back several steps, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. It seemed he was still too weak.
Just as Russell was about to be killed by the giant vampire, several blue figures suddenly appeared in front of him. They were Ultramarines, their power axes flashing with energy, directly blocking the giant vampire's flaming greatsword.
"For the Emperor!" the Ultramarines shouted, their voices filled with fighting spirit.
A hint of gratitude flashed in Russell's eyes: "Thank you for your support."
The Ultramariner nodded, a hint of teasing in his voice: "Don't mention it, we fight for the Emperor."
…………
The surface of the planet was trembling.
The arrival of the Khorne demons was like a blood-red tsunami, and the Astragalus's lines crumbled under the screams of the vampires and the iron hooves of the Khorne knights. On the scorched earth, limbs and broken weapons were stained dark red by the blood mist, but the massacre did not last long—Kalgar's fleet pierced the clouds, and blue-gold cannon fire poured down like divine punishment.
Calgar stood before the landing pod's hatch, the Terminator armor's servo systems humming. Behind him stood fifty Ultramarines of Honor Guard, silent as iron, while two Imperial Guards—the Eye of Terra and the Lord of the Golden Spear—stood at the forefront. Their presence made the air heavy, the eagle emblem on their armor seeming to burn.
"Heil Blanchett, tear open the left flank; Pedro, suppress the demon artillery." Calga's voice was as cold as iron. "The Imperial Guards, follow me straight to the core—that bloodthirsty beast must die."
The Grand Marshal drew his black sword, its blade pointing at the crimson tide: "For the Emperor!"
In the center of the battlefield, a bloodthirsty berserker nearly twenty meters tall trampled the remains of the Astronauts. Its armor was forged from skull and black iron, and each swing of its flaming greatsword unleashed hurricane-like waves of fire. The ground beneath its feet cracked from its roars, and the runes of the Blood God writhed on its skin as if alive.
"Cowardly golden beetles!" it roared, its sword pointing at the fleet on the horizon. "Come! Lubricate my axe blade with your blood!"
The Eye of Terra and the Lord of the Golden Spear did not respond. They silently stepped onto the battlefield, their steps precise as machines. The tide of vampires parted automatically before them—not out of fear, but crushed by some invisible pressure.
The bloodthirsty demon's laughter abruptly stopped. It sensed a threat.
The Lord of the Golden Spear charged forward first, his spear "Emperor's Wrath" drawing a golden arc. The Bloodthirsty Demon's greatsword slashed horizontally, sparks flying, the spear tip piercing three inches into his shoulder armor, but failing to penetrate. The shield of the Eye of Terra, "Terra Bulwark," then slammed into the demon's knee, runes exploding, and a crack appearing in his black iron armor.
"A mere trick!" the demon sneered, his greatsword swirling and slashing down. The moment the Imperial Guards retreated, a ten-meter-deep lava trench was cleaved into the ground.
The demon's attacks grew increasingly frenzied. The flaming greatsword transformed into a crimson storm, each strike igniting the air. The Imperial Guards dodged with near-predictable coordination—the Lord of the Golden Spear feigned an attack on the throat, while the Eye of Terra struck the waist and abdomen with its shield, forcing the demon to stagger. But suddenly, the Bloodthirsty Berserker spewed forth a torrent of blood flames, instantly charring the Eye of Terra's left arm armor.
"Mortals...will eventually decay!" The demon's claws reached for the heads of the Imperial Guards.
The spear of the Lord of the Golden Spears suddenly slipped from his grasp. The bloodthirsty demon instinctively swung his sword to parry, but fell right into a trap—the spear exploded in mid-air, releasing binding runes. The demon's movements faltered for half a second.
That half-second was enough to be fatal.
The Eye of Terra leaped onto the demon's shoulder, its shield blade piercing its eye socket. The Lord of the Golden Spear drew the "Dagger of the End" from his waist—an ancient weapon inlaid with strands of imperial hair—and plunged it into the demon's heart.
The bloodthirsty demon's roar turned into a wail. Its flesh began to crumble from the inside out, and the Blood God runes detached like maggots. In the end, this terrifying creation transformed into a pool of boiling blood, seeping into the scorched earth.
Two royal guards stood beside the demon's remains, their armor cracked but their postures still ramrod straight. The Lord of the Golden Spear picked up the spear fragments, the Eye of Terra tracing the charred dents on the shield—to them, this was just another insignificant battle in the annals of service.
Calgart stomped over the still-convulsing remains of the demon, his power gauntlets crushing a vampire trying to crawl away: "Clean up the battlefield. Next time, I want Abaddon's head."
The Imperial Guards nodded slightly and disappeared into the smoke. They never celebrated victories, for under the emperor's shadow, war never ended.
