Chapter 232 Russell's Past 2
Chapter 232 Russell's Past 2
The orcs' probing attack was finally repelled, and a brief calm returned to the battlefield. Amidst the lingering smoke, the Kashejin warriors began clearing the battlefield and repairing their lines. Russell stood atop a high point, his gaze sweeping over the ravaged battlefield, yet his resolve remained unwavering.
He knew that the orcs' retreat was only temporary, and a bigger storm was brewing.
Just then, Leos's voice came through the communicator: "Russo, Grand Marshal Heil Blanchett and Chapter Master Pedro Canto want to see you."
Russell paused for a moment, then nodded: "I understand, I'll be right there."
He turned and walked towards the command center, a sense of unease creeping into his mind. Why had the Grand Marshal and the battle group commander suddenly summoned him? Was it because of his performance on the battlefield? Or was there another reason?
Inside the command center, Hale Blanchett and Pedro were standing in front of the holographic projection, talking in hushed tones. When Russell walked in, their eyes both turned to him.
“Russell, Kashezin warrior,” Heil Blanchett spoke first, his voice deep and powerful, “your performance on the battlefield has been impressive.”
Russell gave a standard military salute, his tone respectful but firm: "For the Emperor, Grand Marshal."
Pedro smiled, stepped forward, and patted Russell on the shoulder: "Relax, Russell. We just want to talk to you."
Russell nodded, but maintained a military posture. His gaze swept over the two important figures, and he had a vague feeling that this conversation might not be so simple.
“Russell,” Hale Blanchett said slowly, “I’ve heard you’ve had dealings with Sigismund. Could you tell us what your relationship is?”
A complex look flashed in Russell's eyes, as if recalling the past. He was silent for a moment, then slowly spoke: "Lord Sigismund... he was once my mentor."
“Mentor?” Pedro raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat surprised.
Russell nodded, his tone carrying a hint of respect: "Yes. Lord Sigismund once tested me in the orcish territory of Oaktalius. It was an extremely dangerous trial, but he believed I had the potential to become a true warrior."
Heleblanc's gaze deepened, as if he were pondering something: "Octalius... that's a dangerous place. Why did Sigismund choose it as your trial ground?"
Russell's lips curled up slightly, revealing a wry smile: "Lord Sigismund said that only in the most dangerous environment can a person's true potential be brought out. He made me survive alone in Oaktalius for three years, during which time I not only had to face the orcs' pursuit, but also had to cope with the harsh environment and the scarcity of resources."
Pedro nodded, a hint of approval in his voice: "No wonder your fighting style is so fierce; you have Sigismund's influence."
Russell's gaze dimmed, and his voice lowered: "It's a pity... in the world of Arathan, Lord Sigismund ultimately died by Angron's sword. I witnessed his last battle, but I was unable to avenge him."
Hele Blanchett paused for a moment, then slowly said, "Sigismund was a great warrior who sacrificed himself for the glory of the Emperor. You have inherited his will, and that is the best way to commemorate him."
Russell nodded, a resolute glint in his eyes: "Yes, Grand Marshal. I will continue to fight until the very last moment."
Pedro smiled, a hint of teasing in his voice: "It seems Sigismund was right about you. Russell, your performance has proven you are a true warrior."
Russell did not respond, but his eyes revealed an undeniable determination.
“Russell,” Heil Blanchett suddenly spoke, a hint of anticipation in his voice, “the battles to come will be even more difficult. The main force of the orcs is gathering, and we need warriors like you to lead our army.”
Russell paused for a moment, then nodded: "I will do my best, Grand Marshal."
Heilblanc nodded, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes: "Very good. Russell, you will be in full command of the upcoming battle. I expect you to lead our army and repel the orcs' attack."
Russell gave a military salute, his voice firm and powerful: "For the Emperor, for Lord Sigismund, I will complete the mission."
…………
After leaving the command center, Russell remained deeply troubled. The image of Sigismund lingered in his mind; the legendary swordsman's teachings and trials seemed as if they had happened just yesterday. He knew the battles to come would be even more difficult, but he also believed that as long as he continued to fight, one day he would inherit Sigismund's will and become a true legend.
…………
The command center was dimly lit, with holographic projections flickering faintly in the air. Grand Marshal Hel Blanchett and Chapter Master Pedro Cantor stood before the projections, their gazes fixed intently on the latest developments on the battlefield. The main orcish forces were gathering, and even more worryingly, the demon prince Voda Bloodroth had reappeared.
“Woda Bloodshine,” Heil Blanchett murmured the name, a chilling killing intent in his voice, “In the last fight, he cut off one of my legs. This time, I won’t give him another chance to escape.”
Pedro nodded, a ruthless glint in his eyes: "Woda Blood's power far surpasses that of an ordinary demon prince. Any one of us alone would probably be no match for him. But if we join forces, we might have a chance to completely eliminate him."
Heil Blanchett paused for a moment, then slowly said, "Russell's performance has given me hope. His combat talent and command ability may create an opportunity for us. We need a well-thought-out plan to lure Woda Bloodsong into a trap."
Pedro smiled slightly, his tone tinged with confidence: "I already have a preliminary plan. We can use Russell's team as bait to draw Woda Bloodrong's attention. Then, the two of us will launch a flanking attack and completely crush him."
Haile Blanchett nodded, a hint of approval in his eyes: "Good plan. But we must make sure Russell and his team can withstand Voda Bloody's attack. Otherwise, this plan will be meaningless."
Pedro chuckled, a hint of teasing in his voice: "Russell is no ordinary warrior. Moreover, his team has the support of the brutal Oglins and the Kashezin warriors; they won't fall easily."
Heil Blanchett paused for a moment, then slowly said, "It's settled then. We'll begin preparations immediately; the end of Voda Bloodshine is nigh."
