Chapter 412 - 284: Two Memories and The Past

Chapter 412 - 284: Two Memories and The Past

Wamiya lowered her head and bit her bottom lip. She clutched the Crystal Stone, her hands trembling slightly.

In those few short seconds, she found herself wondering—

’Once I recover my memories, I’ll become the "Ah Jin" they talk about. "Ah Jin" will come back. Will the fleeting existence of "Wamiya," which has only blossomed for two months, be forced to end?’

’Will no one ever remember that "Wamiya" existed?’

’Perhaps so.’

A silver-white figure flashed through her mind, and she couldn’t help the sting in her eyes as they grew misty.

The air grew so still it felt as if even the seawater in the room had stopped flowing.

Xi watched the female before him, her expression shifting. The swaying of his fishtail slowed, nearly coming to a halt.

"Ah Jin?" After a moment, he finally spoke, his voice soft. The female threw herself into his arms, utterly helpless as her tears merged with the salty seawater.

He patted her back gently, listening to her ragged sobs. The confusion in his blue eyes was gradually replaced by a deeper layer of concern.

’So that’s what she’s been thinking?’

Xi was taken aback. Subconsciously, he had always felt that "she" was the same person. Whether it was the "Ah Jin" of the past or the "Wamiya" of today, he would love her without reservation.p>

But in her mind, it seemed the two were already separate individuals, separate consciousnesses. She was afraid that once she regained her memories, her current "self" would disappear.

The "Wamiya" of this moment was neither the original "Wamiya," nor the "Ah Jin" of ten years ago. She was a new individual, with a consciousness all her own.

Although Xi couldn’t empathize completely, he could tangibly feel her current state of helplessness.

"Ah Jin, no, Wamiya..." He gripped her somewhat frail shoulders, creating a little distance between them. He leaned down slightly, staring earnestly into her teary eyes. "No matter which you it is, you are one-of-a-kind in Xi’s heart. But Ah Jin, you must know, the you of today is not your complete self."

He tried to reason with her. "Only by finding your previous memories can you become the real you. When that time comes, whether you are Ah Jin or Wamiya, Xi will still be by your side."

"After you recover your memories, no matter who you want to become, Xi will absolutely not stop you."

"Because, no matter who you are, Xi..." As the Merfolk spoke, a blush spread across his fair, refined face. His translucent, jade-like ear fins softened and drooped slightly as he lowered his head and pressed a kiss to her lips.

Her eyes widened slightly and her face flushed crimson. Her hands were braced against his chest, but she felt no sense of revulsion whatsoever.

"That’s a kiss. It’s only for the person I like the most." When the kiss ended, he let her go. His clear, beautiful blue eyes shimmered with tiny specks of light, and his voice was tinged with shyness. "No matter who you are, no matter when, the one Xi likes the most will always be you. Only you."

Kissing in the water was a tasteless affair, and it didn’t create the sense of suffocation one would feel on land. She sensed a kind of power within her body, one that allowed her to breathe through gills like a real fish.

Wamiya subconsciously touched her neck. The moment she entered the seawater, several small holes had appeared there, apparently housing a new type of organ called "gills."

"Ah Jin?" Seeing his heartfelt confession being ignored, Xi was instantly dismayed.

’Why is it like this every single time?’

’Every time he musters the courage to shyly express his love, Ah Jin always gives him that look of someone watching a little cub play house, not taking him seriously at all.’

He gave her lip a punitive bite and grumbled, "Did you not hear what I just said again?"

"Again?" she asked, snapping out of her daze.

"Yeah! The first time I confessed to you, you had this same expression..." The more he thought about it, the more crestfallen he became.

Wamiya couldn’t help but laugh out loud, and several large bubbles immediately floated up in front of her mouth. She quickly clapped a hand over it, wondering where that burst of "laughter" had even come from.

She looked down at the pale blue Crystal Stone in her hand. Many memory fragments and other emotions had been subtly instilled in her mind. ’Perhaps "she" really should come back now.’

This time, after only a brief moment of hesitation, she placed the Crystal Stone in her mouth.

The Crystal Stone, which had been as hard as a rock, instantly dissolved in her saliva the moment she put it in her mouth, transforming into a small, trickling stream that flowed through her limbs and into every corner of her body.

Xi saw the female before him close her eyes, then go limp in his arms, as if she had fallen into a deep slumber.

"Ah Jin?!"

She remembered.

She remembered the memories of two lifetimes.

An Jin opened her eyes and found herself in a sort of chaotic, intersecting darkness. A massive beam of light shone down from above, illuminating the scene before her as if the curtain were rising on a play, with all kinds of "characters" taking the stage.

There was An Jin, Wamiya, Ze Sheng, Ling Hong, Mi Yin, and Xi... Everyone she had ever met, and everything that had ever happened to her, began to play out before her eyes, scene by scene.

From profound, unforgettable events to things long forgotten in the corners of time, everything began to play out before her, frame by frame, like a movie that would never end.

And just like that, she watched her past and present lives unfold.

All told, it had been nearly 100 years.

Fortunately, this was her sea of consciousness, where time did not flow. After the movie ended, the world before her once again turned to complete darkness. She yawned sleepily and stretched, but she couldn’t help but mentally review the timeline of her two lives.

She was Wamiya, and she was also An Jin.

To be more precise, she was "Wamiya" first—Ze Sheng’s innately-born partner, from the same mother, kin in the truest sense of the word where blood is thicker than water.

When the two were very young, their city was invaded by a powerful race. Their Beast Father had passed away early, as he had given his Soul blood to their Beast Mother during her difficult childbirth. The Beast Mother, left to raise them alone, was no match for those King Beasts. On the verge of the city’s fall, she chose to end her own life, using her last ounce of strength to send them out of the city.

But the two young cubs, having barely escaped with their lives, were not yet out of danger.

It is unknown who let slip the secret of the Unicorn King Beast clan—that they possessed the only female on the continent with a beast form. Consequently, the two were subjected to a relentless hunt. The once-noble royals were forced to wander the jungle.

They weathered the wind and slept in the open, eating raw flesh and drinking blood.

Having been pampered since she was a cub, the young Wamiya could not endure such a destitute life. She frequently cried and threw fits, wanting to go back, arguing that even being treated as a communal female would be no worse than their current situation. Thus, Ze Sheng, who at the time could not yet transform, was forced to learn to hunt each day, to cook roasted meat for her, and to spend time trying to soothe the incredibly volatile Wamiya.

’...So he really had been raising me to be his wife since we were children.’

She couldn’t help but sigh. ’No wonder the usually magnanimous and noble Ze Sheng would even resort to secretly plotting to strip away her memory fragments. I guess watching the wife you raised from childhood get taken by another male would be more than a little upsetting.’

But back to the story—

Later, Ze Sheng grew into a King Beast, slew his enemies, and successfully reclaimed the Royal City.

Their story should have continued happily ever after, but an incident occurred that would affect her entire life.
