Chapter 59 Filming Ended
Chapter 59 Filming Ended
The first scene was filmed on the cruise ship. Only after all the scenes on the cruise ship were filmed would the scene be moved outdoors.
As actors eager to become famous, they were very serious when discussing their scenes. Mads Wu would also offer some guidance from the side. They showed great professionalism and were very focused.
In Hollywood, where resources are fiercely contested and shrouded in shady underhanded practices, those who want to become famous must be extremely vigilant. Moreover, there are Columbia Pictures producers lurking in the shadows of the film crew, keeping an eye on them.
For the next two weeks, the set was brightly lit every day. Two sets of exquisite props were worn out. The constant and repetitive shooting made Melissa suffer, but she was still able to show perfect acting skills in front of the camera.
To maintain her energy, Melissa either got massages or ate high-protein foods during her breaks. What terrified her was not the endless looping plot in the script, but the demanding requirements of the new director.
The entire film took nearly a month to shoot, which is not a fast time. He even left the reshoots for the final shots before they were beautified.
Mads Wu advised his son that, considering the efficiency and performance of a new director, he was already very good.
The prolonged period of mental tension has eased somewhat, and his first work has reached its optimal state within his capabilities and financial constraints.
The final scene was filmed at the dock, where Kang Woo-jin personally made a cameo appearance as a taxi driver. Watching Melissa apologize to Mads-Oh with a bitter and guilty expression on her face in the camera, he happily announced that the filming of the final scene was over.
"Thank you all for your hard work and cooperation with the crew over the past month. I hereby announce that filming for Lost Delta has been completed! Tonight, I'll be hosting a wrap party! Everyone, please relax and have a good time at the hotel."
The production team still had nearly $100,000 in savings, and Kang Woo-jin wasn't going to be stingy with it. After working so hard for so long, they had to celebrate.
As the director spoke, cheers erupted throughout the set. Some low-budget film crews don't even consider celebrations or parties; they try to save money wherever possible.
Fortunately, they met a generous new director.
After instructing them to pack up all the props and equipment, Kang Woo-jin called Tony, and together with the unedited videotapes and film reels, they set off for Columbia Pictures.
The contract with Columbia Pictures clearly stated that the editing rights would be prioritized for Kang Woo-jin's version, meaning priority editing rights.
Kang Woo-jin will find someone to edit the film himself, and then he will renegotiate with Columbia Pictures. If his version is good, then he will choose his version.
He only got these conditions by pulling strings and using back channels. As for direct editing rights, he doesn't have that qualification yet. Unless you're a top director, you don't even have the right to attend the meeting, let alone priority editing rights.
In Hollywood, these film studios are the giants who hold the reins, while everyone else can't even get a taste of the spoils.
After handing over the film negatives and videotapes to Columbia Pictures, Kang Woo-jin chatted with the producer for a while and agreed to come and participate in the editing work next week. Then he called Tony and prepared to leave.
The producer was invited to the party, of course, but he had to give a report to his superiors, so he declined.
Kang Woo-jin didn't say anything about it. Before leaving, he took a small phone box from Tony and handed it to the producer, smiling and saying it was a gift.
The middle-aged producer opened a corner of the box and, upon seeing the bright green US dollars inside, immediately beamed with joy and said he would put in a good word for him with his superiors.
Today's task of understanding interpersonal relationships has been accomplished.
After politely saying goodbye to the producer, Kang Woo-jin left with Tony. As they drove towards the hotel, Tony glanced back at the film company a few more times and remarked, "Ten thousand dollars, enough for him to splurge for two days."
"Tony's social skills are useful everywhere, and besides, a single word from him can save us a lot of trouble," Jiang Youzhen shrugged and smiled dismissively.
"I know, it just feels like we're a low-budget film. How much do you think we expect to gross at the box office?" Tony asked.
"Maybe ten million. The market is small, so ten million would be a huge profit."
"Really? I think it's at least over 20 million, because some people will want to watch it a second time to get the details."
Hearing Tony's words, Jiang Youzhen looked up and laughed. He felt the same way, but at this moment he only felt a sense of satisfaction.
This is his first film as a director, and it makes him even happier than when the cannibal movie was released.
The two bought a lot of cigarettes and alcohol on the way and brought them to the hotel. These two things are indispensable at a party. They were both very enthusiastic about enjoying the revelry, and the party continued into the night.
Kang Woo-jin didn't participate much throughout the event, but he was already exhausted. After avoiding the others, he sat in a corner with a can of sparkling water. He didn't like parties, but everyone else did, so he could only go along with it.
The raucous music by the pool made his ears hurt, so after thinking for a moment, he turned around and walked out of the party area, choosing a relatively quiet spot to sit down again.
He received a message from a girl on his phone. He opened it, glanced at it, and then, as if remembering something, sent her a message in return.
After a while, the phone rang again. Kim Tae-yeon was surprised that Kang Woo-jin would ask her for the phone number of the SM Entertainment trainee manager, but she gave it to him anyway.
"What does he want with the roommate... Could it be that he's having a mental breakdown and wants to go back to China to develop his career?"
Kim Tae-yeon was unsure of Kang Woo-jin's thoughts. After sending the room manager's contact information, she wiped her sweat and walked back into the practice room.
The practice room was bustling. It was break time, and these guys were still discussing what to have for lunch.
"Unnie, what do you want for lunch? Cold noodles?" Yoona asked quickly when she noticed Taeyeon returning. "Or a barbecue bento?"
"I'm fine with anything," Kim Tae-yeon said casually, not having much energy to respond to the energetic Im Yoon-ah, and then sat down to rest.
Upon hearing this answer, Im Yoona replied helplessly, "Unnie, whatever, I'm fine with anything"—that kind of answer is the hardest to guess, okay?
"Then I'll be just like you."
Are you sure?
"Um..."
Kim Tae-yeon stared lazily at the ceiling, unwilling to move an inch. Hearing footsteps in the practice room, she knew that Yoona and Seohyun had gone to order lunch.
Having a maknae (youngest member) is great; you can order them around.
A short while later, Kim Tae-yeon, who was feeling drowsy, suddenly felt a cool sensation on her face. She instantly woke up and opened her eyes to see Jessica Jung holding a can of cola and smiling at her.
"Still sleeping? Want something to drink?" Although it was a question, Jessica Jung had already placed the cola in her hand.
Holding the ice-cold cola in her hand, Kim Taeyeon hesitated for a moment, not opening it immediately, and said in a muffled voice, "It's too cold, it's not good for my stomach if I drink it now, I'll drink it later."
"Whatever. When Yoona comes back later, be careful she doesn't steal your Coke and drink it all," Jessica Jung laughed.
"It's so cold!" Kim Tae-yeon wanted to say something more, but then she heard her phone ring. She quickly took out her phone to check the message.
Seeing this, Jessica Jung blinked and smiled again. Noticing that everyone was looking at Tae-yeon, she joked, "It's evening in New York, so it's not very late. Looks like the Hollywood veteran is done with her work?"
Because of the filming schedule, Kang Woo-jin and Kim Tae-yeon weren't in frequent contact recently, sometimes only exchanging a few words every two or three days. The fact that they can contact each other now shows that he's not as busy.
Kim Tae-yeon looked at the message on her phone, shook her head with a strange expression, and said, "It wasn't him, it was our roommate. He told me to come see him after dinner, it seems like there's something going on."
While explaining to them, she was also wondering if Jiang Youzhen had said something to the department head.
For some inexplicable reason, she felt a sense of panic, like a student being called to have their parents called in.
