Chapter 52 He Likes His New Work
Chapter 52 He Likes His New Work
On his rare day off, Kang Woo-jin got up early to exercise and then returned to his room. He planned to finish reviewing the script before going back to school, as the production company was pressing him hard and the contract only had a few months left.
Even if he worked himself to the bone every day, it would be difficult for him to submit two scripts within six months, leaving him with half a year to write the last one.
The dense text on the computer screen was making him feel a bit down. There were several books on the table next to him, all of which he used for research.
Two hands tapped away on the keyboard, the only sound in the quiet room being the crisp sound of typing. After what seemed like an eternity, someone knocked on the door.
Interrupted from his thoughts, Jiang Youzhen turned his head to look at the door and casually replied, "Come in."
"Anders, you haven't had breakfast yet." Mads Wu pushed open the door, holding a tray with the breakfast he had made. Seeing Jiang Youzhen sitting on the sofa, he naturally understood what his son was doing in the room.
"Are you still writing the script? Is the production company constantly pressuring you?"
"Of course, they pressured me like they would a pregnant woman, so I would give birth to three children for them."
Jiang Youzhen tapped the keyboard, his tone resentful, and his face listless.
"Then you should also pay attention to your diet and rest, son. Come and have breakfast. I made it myself." Mads-Wu placed the tray on the coffee table and then reached out to take Jiang Youzhen's laptop and put it aside.
Jiang Youzhen wanted to stop him but it was too late. Helpless, he had to finish breakfast first. However, the appearance of Mads-Oh gave him someone to discuss the script with, so he frankly expressed his thoughts.
Mads-Oh listened attentively. He wasn't the screenwriter or the director, but he could understand Kang Woo-jin's new script ideas from an actor's perspective.
At first, he thought Jiang Youzhen was writing those sequels, but from what he said, it seemed to be a new work.
"A new project? Let me think... You've been having this idea for the past few years—is that one?"
"I guess so, but I only wrote a rough draft. I'm very busy at school, and I don't have much time."
Don't be fooled by his relaxed appearance abroad; he's actually incredibly busy, learning this and that, and he also has to take care of himself. Mads Wu is often away filming, and sometimes it takes him most of the day just to clean his room.
Over time, his script was put on hold.
"So, do you have any new ideas? This... Sisyphus?"
Mads Wu glanced at the books on the coffee table: two books of Homer's epics, Camus's essays, and ancient Greek mythology. He picked one up and started reading.
"Sisyphus, you made a note on this page, are you planning to include his story?"
"Hmm, Dad, look what this is." When talking about a topic he valued, Jiang Youzhen raised his hand and showed his wrist to Mads-Oh.
Mads Wu glanced at it in the direction of the gaze and replied, "A Möbius strip, it looks nice. I've seen you wearing it for the past two months, including when you went to Paris. But judging from the material, it seems to be just ordinary plain silver."
When Kang Woo-jin said, "Taeyeon gave it to me," he raised his eyebrows and his face was full of pride.
"Oh~ so it's a gift from the young lady. No wonder you treasure it so much." Looking at his son's expression, Mads Wu chuckled and shrugged, gesturing for him to continue. "Okay, what's wrong with this bracelet?"
"The Möbius strip, infinite, an infinite loop; the story of Sisyphus is also an infinite loop, endlessly repeating, and there's also the grandmother paradox."
Jiang Youzhen pointed to the twisted part of the bracelet. When he talked about his thoughts, his facial features became more lively, and his tone gradually became more enthusiastic.
Looking at him now, you would never guess that just a few minutes ago he had been so lifeless.
"I understand, like that movie, Twelve Monkeys," Mads-Oh quickly understood what Kang Woo-jin meant.
"That's right, it's Twelve Monkeys, that's truly a classic movie."
Kang Woo-jin still remembers the paparazzi he encountered outside the parking lot that day, watching him run back and forth in that spot, repeatedly raising his camera to take pictures. Perhaps it was at that moment that he had the idea to revise the script he was working on.
Infinite loops would be a great theme for him; he liked it a lot, even more so than the cannibalistic themes of his earlier works.
He felt that this might be the work of a mysterious entity. Compared to the horrors that could be solved by physical means, this feeling of happiness from returning to the past or the sense of emptiness from being trapped in a time loop was more unsolvable.
Mads-Wu listened patiently as Kang Woo-jin talked about his new work and some emerging ideas. Fortunately, Kang Woo-jin had finished his breakfast, otherwise he would have had to take the time to urge his son to finish his breakfast.
He came to deliver breakfast and also wanted to chat with his son, hoping to maintain a good and perfect father-son relationship. Mads Wu felt that his years of persistence had not been in vain.
In terms of emotional value, Mads-Oh has never disappointed. He looks forward to the day when Kang Woo-jin's new script is completed, and of course, he also wants to recommend himself.
But she was stunned for a few seconds by her son's response.
The main character in his new script is a woman... after all, with a thriller element, a female character is more fitting.
"Okay, then Dad, can I still act in it?"
"sure"
Upon hearing this answer, Mads Wu smiled happily.
The father and son chatted in the room all morning, and only came downstairs because the old man downstairs was calling them.
Jiang Youzhen only had one day off, so he stayed at home. At the request of the elderly, he took his laptop downstairs and kept an eye on the elderly people practicing golf in the yard while refining his script.
Back on set, in the parking lot, Jiang Youzhen felt an intense fatigue wash over him. His legs felt as heavy as if they were filled with cement, and in that instant, all his energy was gone.
Who wants to go to work?!
Before the appointed time, Jiang Youzhen still stepped into the dressing room. When he caught sight of the figure appearing at the door, he immediately put on a smile and greeted Huang Renlei in a gentle tone.
"Good morning, Director."
"Good morning, Woojin!" As soon as he entered the dressing room, he saw his favorite actor, and Hwang In-rae felt his eyes brighten up. He walked over with a smile, handed the breakfast sandwich he was holding to Kang Woojin, and said with a smile, "I bought this breakfast on the way. Look at you, you've lost weight recently, eat more."
...
"Okay, thank you, Director."
Jiang Youzhen took the bag and thanked Huang Renlei with great surprise and gratitude, while inwardly complaining.
Brother! You brought this sandwich to me because you couldn't finish it yourself, right?
Whose sandwich is as big as a car key?!
He has indeed lost weight, but the reason is that he was working tirelessly on set and often stayed up all night to film. He is also picky about food, so he basically doesn't eat the boxed meals provided by the crew. He spends any free time he has outside buying what he likes to eat.
Hwang In-rae sat next to Kang Woo-jin and told him about the filming schedule for the next few days. Since Kang Woo-jin would be returning to New York soon, they decided to speed up the filming of his scenes this week.
Jiang Youzhen had no objection to this arrangement and even wholeheartedly agreed. However, the occasional glances from inside the dressing room made him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
