Chapter 18 Xia Li Understands
Chapter 18 Xia Li Understands
Xia Li brushed a strand of silver hair behind her ear and casually tugged at the shoulder strap. She was amazed that the bra could hold her so securely without a bra strap. The sweatshirt was lined with fleece, and it warmed her up immediately as soon as she put it on.
After calming her breathing, adjusting her expression, and reverting to her usual witch-like demeanor, she slowly opened the door.
Song Che leaned against the wall and waited for her.
"Is the problem resolved?"
"...It's a minor problem, I can handle it."
Song Che looked up at Xia Li, whose silver hair was sticking up. He wanted to reach out and straighten it, but he held back. "Your hair is messy. Go straighten it in the mirror yourself."
"Okay, a little trouble."
Xia Li went to the bathroom. In the mirror, there was a girl with her bangs sticking up on both sides. Many of her silver hairs were rubbing together and standing up like little hedgehogs. Her right forehead was red and there was a finger mark on her left cheek. Her face was the calmest part of her whole body.
She stood in front of the mirror for a long time.
"...Shameful."
Xia Li's soft lips curved down as she combed her hair. The more she combed, the more her hair stood on end. After combing one circle, it stood on end again. She put down the comb, pressed her hands against the top of her head, and her silver hair was quiet for a moment, but as soon as she let go, it immediately stood up again.
Xia Li didn't understand, so she could only follow the silver hair to find Song Che.
After leaving the bathroom, I arrived at the bedroom door.
Song Che was tidying up his things with his back turned. He folded his bra, rolled up his stockings, put his pointed hat aside, and finally picked up the bra strap he had just changed out of and a small piece of clothing underneath, and then froze.
He took a closer look, shook his head, and put it on the bed. He then bent down to pick up Xia Li's little black boots, which were covered in mud. Song Che wiped them with his hand, but there were so many mud spots that only a shoe brush could clean them. He put the boots down and then examined the chest strap again.
Is this thing for girls?
Song Che touched it; the linen material was indeed rough. Compared to the clothes here, the difference in feel was as absurd as the difference in his and Xia Li's appetites.
Seeing Song Che touching her little clothes, Xia Li remained silent. She glanced at the bedside table subconsciously, vaguely remembering that the little book inside was not very proper. Then she looked back at Song Che's hand and her little clothes. She lowered her hand from her head, her silver hair slightly sticking up, and her mouth tightened into a straight line.
Xia Li was thinking about how to punish him so that he wouldn't kick her out, and she could also feel better.
Staring—
Song Che picked up the neatly folded clothes, turned around, and his gaze met Xia Li's.

"Your hair... is a bit frizzy."
"I know."
"When did you start standing behind me?"
Although Song Che hadn't done anything wrong, he still felt a little guilty. Sometimes, what stabs you in the back isn't necessarily a knife, but rather Xia Li's magic wand.
"Start from when you fold your little clothes."
"Oh..." Song Che said seriously, "These clothes need to be washed, and so do your little boots. I was just checking how to fold them."
"If you're going to wash it, why fold it first? And what's the point of folding it?"
"what?"
Song Che suddenly realized that Xia Li was right, so why should he fold it first?
It seems like I subconsciously folded the clothes when I touched them. No, why did I touch them?
Song Che hadn't expected that Xia Li, this little thing, still had a moment of clarity. He couldn't dwell on the matter of the little clothes any longer, so he said in a serious tone, "Fold them up and put them away for now. We'll wash them tonight. You fell and got covered in mud yesterday, so you can't wear them if you don't wash them. Let's cook now. Do you want some?"
"eat."
Upon hearing about cooking, Xia Li immediately agreed. She pointed to the silver hair sticking up on her head and asked in confusion, "I don't know what to do, I can't comb it down."
"Easy, just wet the comb a little and smooth it out."
"...Okay." Xia Li glanced at the little clothes, then turned and went to the bathroom to smooth her hair.
Song Che placed the small clothes on the small sofa, and felt that there was a faint fragrance on them, probably the magic potion scent that Xia Li always carried, which had soaked into the clothes.
He scratched Bruce, who was half-awake, indicating that the cat food was not finished and that eating more cat food would be good for the bloodline.
Turning around, Song Che took two steps to the small kitchen partitioned off from the living room. He opened the refrigerator, took out celery and chili peppers, and then took out six eggs from the partition, cracked them into a bowl, and stirred them.
Xia Li had tamed her mischievous silver hair and stood quietly at the kitchen doorway. Watching Song Che's busy figure, she realized he wasn't paying attention to her and tried several times before finally managing to speak, "...Is there anything you need me to do?"
Song Che placed the mixed eggs on the cutting board, picked up the celery, rinsed it clean, picked up the knife, and began to chop the vegetables. "I don't need your help at noon. This time you just need to watch. Once you understand, the work of washing vegetables and rinsing rice will be yours."
If you learn quickly, I can give you the task of cooking rice too, but I'll still be the one stir-frying the vegetables. You can't do it, so I'll have to cook and you can watch.
Song Che cut the celery into sections, then turned around, washed the green peppers, removed the seeds, sliced them into strips, and placed them on the side of the cutting board.
Xia Li stood behind Song Che, tiptoeing. She couldn't see clearly, but she felt she understood the general steps. Having prepared potions for many years, she could remember steps far more complicated than this.
First, wash the vegetables, then cut them into appropriate sizes. In contrast, making a potion involves selecting the ingredients, adjusting the quantities, and then starting the preparation.
"Do you understand now?"
"……no problem."
"Okay, next is rinsing the rice. It's actually similar to washing vegetables, there's not much skill involved." Song Che scooped half a bowl of rice, added water, shook it, rinsed it, and drained the water when it turned white. He looked up and asked, "Got it? The only thing to remember is not to throw away the rice when you drain the water."
"...I understand, I won't waste food."
"Good." Song Che opened the rice cooker, put in rice, added some water, and waited until the water level was more than two centimeters high. He then put the lid on, adjusted the gas valve, and pressed the rice cooker button. He said, "Cooking rice only requires you to make sure the gas valve is closed and press the button once."
"clear."
Xia Li's hands found it very simple; these steps were less than half as complicated as making a potion. Xia Li's mind felt very clever; she only needed to remember when to press which button to complete the task.
She was determined to make Song Che realize that she wasn't a useless witch while cooking dinner.
Xia Li reviewed the steps to make sure she hadn't missed anything. Just to be on the safe side, she decided to go through them again... Song Che had already turned on the gas stove. As the button was turned, a blue flame suddenly leaped out. Xia Li's pupils contracted instinctively, and she raised her hand to unleash a super-level magic.
"Absolute freezing point".
"What did you say?"
"……fine."
"Could you please bring me the oil, the yellow one at the very back of the cutting board, and the salt, the white bag with writing on it?"
"Okay." Xia Li handed the small bucket of oil and salt to Song Che, looking down at her palm with a sullen expression.
Song Che heated oil in a wok, added chili peppers, and focused on stir-frying the vegetables. Xia Li silently observed the layout of the small kitchen, and suddenly noticed a sticker of a blue cartoon planet on the refrigerator.
She looked up and asked, "Yesterday you said that if you have money here, you can take a rocket to a star and eat grilled fish. Is that true? What's a rocket?"
"It's fake. You can't go even if you have the money. But if you want to see the stars, you can go to the Stargazing Museum. Maybe you can see the Witch's Death Star there."
A glint of light appeared in Xia Liqing's eyes. "...How many gold coins do you need?"
"You really want to see it?"
Song Che turned his head. It was the first time he had heard Xia Li's tone of "excitement". There weren't many things that could interest Xia Li. "Eating" was one, "potions and alchemy" was another, but he never expected that looking at the stars could make her happy.
"If you want to see it, I can pay you."
"I'll take you next weekend, it won't cost much."
"Is tomorrow okay?"
"I have to go to school tomorrow, and if I remember correctly, I have a mock exam tomorrow... Holy crap, I have to take an exam."
Song Che's head was buzzing.
The grueling academic burden of senior year pierced his mind. At No. 1 High School, all the knowledge had already been learned in senior year. Senior year was all about repeated exams: exams on Mondays, self-study on Tuesdays, results on Wednesdays, discussions on Thursdays, self-study on Fridays, Q&A sessions on Saturday mornings, and then the cycle would repeat itself after a week.
This is unlike Earth's gravity, which even Newton couldn't control.
This isn't like crossing a threshold, where you can just get through it if you have money.
