Chapter 275 Good Fortune Will Surely Follow
Chapter 275 Good Fortune Will Surely Follow
Lu Ran wanted to speak, but her throat was somewhat unresponsive, and she could only manage a weak, almost inaudible sound: "Hmm... I'm awake."
Shen Yuege cried so hard she couldn't speak, she just held his hand tightly, as if she was afraid he would disappear if she let go.
Her shoulders trembled with each sob, and she lay on the edge of the bed, burying her face in his palm, tears wetting his fingers.
Lu Ran laboriously raised his other hand and gently placed it on her head.
"Don't cry," he said softly, his voice weak. "I'm perfectly fine."
Shen Yuege raised her head, looking at him with teary eyes, her lips trembling, wanting to say something but unable to utter a word.
She reached out and pressed the call button by the bedside, then stood up and leaned closer to examine his face, his eyes, and his lips, as if to confirm whether he was really awake and whether he was really still alive.
"You scared me to death..." Her voice was broken. "That video... suddenly went black... I heard that voice... I thought... I thought it was you..."
She didn't finish her sentence, but Lu Ran knew what she wanted to say.
"It's alright now," he said softly. "I'm tough."
Lu Ran thought to himself with a self-deprecating smile: "I guess I'm the main character now."
If one survives, there will be future fortunes.
Shen Yuege felt like crying and laughing at the same time. In the end, she just squeezed his hand tightly and then turned around to open the door for the doctor.
The doctor arrived quickly; he was a middle-aged man in his forties, wearing glasses and a white coat, and carrying a folder.
Two nurses followed behind him, one pushing the medical equipment and the other holding the medical record book.
"Awake?" The doctor walked to the bedside, lifted Lu Ran's eyelids to look at him, checked his pulse and blood pressure, and asked a few simple questions—what's his name, how old is he, how he's feeling, and so on.
Lu Ran answered each question one by one; although his voice was weak, his thoughts were clear.
The doctor nodded, then turned to Shen Yuege and said, "She is conscious and her vital signs are stable. We haven't found any major problems yet. However, we still recommend observing her for a few more days and having a full check-up to ensure there are no long-term effects."
"His leg..." Shen Yuege glanced at Lu Ran's right leg, which was wrapped in gauze, her voice trembling slightly.
"Your right leg has a minor fracture, which has been immobilized. It's not a big problem; just rest and recover," the doctor said. "You also have a mild concussion, which may cause dizziness and nausea. These are normal and will subside in a few days. The rest are just superficial injuries and nothing serious."
The doctor gave a few more instructions and then left with the nurse.
The ward fell silent.
Shen Yuege pulled up a chair, sat down on the edge of the bed, and took Lu Ran's hand again.
Her eyes were red and her eyelids were swollen, clearly indicating that she hadn't slept well for several days.
"How long have you been here?" Lu Ran asked.
"Two days." Shen Yuege's voice was still a little hoarse. "I booked the plane ticket that night, and it took me until the early hours of the morning. After I arrived... I searched for a long time before I finally found you."
She didn't say how difficult the search process was, but Lu Ran could imagine it.
With poor signal in the mountains, roads blocked, and hospitals overcrowded, she found herself alone in a completely unfamiliar place, making call after call and going from hospital to hospital.
"Where's Tan Yu?" Lu Ran suddenly remembered something. "And the driver—"
"They're both alright," Shen Yuege quickly said. "Tan Yu's injuries are less severe than yours; he just had a minor scrape on his arm and is in the next room. The driver is fine too; he was just cut a few times by broken glass, but it's already been treated. They both woke up before you, and Tan Yu even insisted on coming to see you, but the nurses stopped him."
Lu Ran breathed a sigh of relief.
"That rock hit the front of the car. You were in the passenger seat, so the impact was the strongest..." Shen Yuege said, her voice trembling again. "The driver said that when he ran out, he glanced back and saw you lying on the ground... He couldn't wake you up no matter what he did..."
Lu Ran paused for a moment.
He remembered the way the rock rolled down the mountain, the way he fell to the side, and the feeling that his leg had been hit by something. After that, he remembered nothing.
"How long was I unconscious?"
"Two days," Shen Yuege said. "The doctor said you had a concussion and blood loss, which is why you haven't woken up. I... I've been calling you for the past two days, did you hear me?"
Lu Ran thought about it and realized that during the time he was unconscious, he did feel Shen Yuege's voice constantly lingering in his ears.
I initially thought it was because I had been thinking about it day and night that I dreamed about it.
In my dream, Shen Yuege's voice came from a very far place, sometimes clear and sometimes blurry.
The case has been solved; they shouted it right next to me.
"I heard you." He looked at Shen Yuege, who was standing beside him with concern, and replied, "I heard you calling me."
Shen Yuege's tears fell again.
Lu Ran laboriously raised his hand and wiped away her tears.
When his fingers touched her cheek, he realized how thin her face was, with her cheekbones protruding.
"Haven't you eaten anything?"
"have eaten."
"You're lying." Lu Ran looked at her. "You've lost weight."
Shen Yuege did not refute, but simply held his hand, pressed it against her face, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.
"I'm so glad you're alright," she said softly.
Looking at her, Lu Ran suddenly felt a warmth in his heart.
This foolish woman flew all the way from Shanghai and stayed alone in a hospital in the mountains for two days, without eating, drinking, or sleeping, just to wait for him to wake up.
He remembered that saying—it's good to have someone who cares.
"Moon Song," he called to her.
"Um?"
"When I get better, I'll take you to eat Haidilao."
Shen Yuege paused for a moment, then smiled. Tears still clung to her face, but the smile was genuine.
"Okay," she said. "I'll wait for you."
The two remained silent for a while, neither of them speaking.
As darkness fell outside the window, the lights in the ward seemed especially warm.
There was a rustling sound at the door, and then the door was carefully pushed open a crack.
Tan Yu poked his head through the crack in the door. His arm was wrapped in bandages, and there were several scabbed abrasions on his face, but he seemed to be in good spirits.
"Brother Lu?" he called softly, "You're awake?"
Lu Ran waved to him with difficulty: "Come in, stop sneaking around outside."
Tan Yu grinned and pushed open the door to walk in.
The driver was following behind him, his head wrapped in gauze, carrying a thermos.
"Mr. Lu, you're finally awake." The driver smiled憨厚ly and placed the thermos on the bedside table. "This is porridge that I had the cafeteria cook. Drink some while it's hot."
"Thanks." Lu Ran nodded, then looked at Tan Yu, "Are you alright, kid?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing." Tan Yu sat casually on the edge of the bed, rolled up his sleeve to show him, "It's just a little scrape. The doctor insisted on putting a bandage on it, but I said I didn't need it, and they wouldn't listen."
Lu Ran glanced at the bandages on his arm; they were indeed wrapped quite exaggeratedly.
"I carried boxes in the disaster area for five days without any problems, but I almost died on the way back," Tan Yu said, scratching his head with lingering fear. "Brother Lu, do you think our luck was a bit off?"
"It's a bit unlucky," Lu Ran laughed, "but at least I'm still alive."
"That's true." Tan Yu nodded.
After all, this time, he really did survive a major ordeal, and there were no particularly serious or irreversible injuries.
"Brother Lu, Sister Shen really cares about you." Tan Yu suddenly leaned close to Lu Ran's ear and whispered, "These past two days, Sister Shen has been absent-mindedly staying by your bedside, not eating, just taking care of you, and constantly calling your name."
Lu Ran didn't speak, but turned to look at Shen Yuege.
She was sitting on the edge of the bed, bending down to serve him porridge, her hair hanging down and covering half of her face.
He couldn't see her expression, but he could see that her hand holding the spoon was still trembling slightly, whether from excitement or from weakness.
"I know," he said softly.
Tan Yu tactfully stood up and tugged at the driver's sleeve: "Um, Brother Lu, you get some rest. We'll head out now. Call me if you need anything; I'm right next door."
"OK."
Tan Yu walked to the door, then looked back and winked at Lu Ran: "Brother Lu, you're lucky to have survived such a disaster. You're sure to have good fortune in the future."
The door closed.
The ward fell silent again.
Shen Yuege ladled out the porridge, stirred it with a spoon, blew on it to cool it down a bit, and brought it to Lu Ran's lips.
"Eat something first," she said. "You haven't eaten for two days."
Lu Ran opened his mouth and drank the porridge.
It's white rice porridge, cooked until very soft, melting in your mouth.
It didn't have much flavor, but it felt warm and comforting in my stomach.
"Is it good?" Shen Yuege asked.
"It tastes good."
"You're lying." Shen Yuege looked at him. "What's so good about plain porridge?"
"What you feed it tastes best."
Shen Yuege was stunned for a moment, then blushed and lowered her head to continue feeding him.
Lu Ran looked at her and suddenly said, "Yuege."
"Um?"
"sorry."
Shen Yuege paused for a moment: "Why are you apologizing?"
I'm sorry to have worried you.
Shen Yuege was silent for a few seconds, then looked up at him, her eyes reddening again, but this time she didn't cry.
"You know that's good," she said, her voice a little hoarse. "Don't do it again."
"Okay." Lu Ran smiled. "It won't happen again."
"Do you keep your word?"
"Keep your word."
