Ch. 130 - Gifting Young Master Tang an Avalanche, Just for Fun
The Ice Marrow Beetles weren't fast—they couldn't dodge the Slime's charge.Blue light gathered in their mouths as ice balls slowly condensed.
Compared to the Ice Hares' projectiles, the Ice Marrow Beetles' skill was clearly more powerful—the icy environment gave them a significant boost.
Bang bang bang!
Ice balls slammed into the Slime one after another, shattering on impact. Blue frost spread across its body, slowing it down.
In that instant, golden radiance erupted across the Slime's surface, looking almost divine...
Overlord Body activated. The slow effect was instantly dispelled.
Thanks to its massive defense, the ice damage was practically negligible too.
BOOM!
The Slime plowed straight through several Ice Marrow Beetles, sending them flying like bowling pins.
"Old Xie, watch for nearby beasts! Xiao Xing, if things go south, be ready to take off!"
Chen Shu called out the warning while focusing entirely on controlling his Slime.
The Slime tore through the swarm like a wolf among sheep. Though it was roughly the same rank as the fierce beasts, its actual power was on a completely different level.
The Slime snored away, thunderous snorts echoing through the canyon.
Yet its body kept charging, crushing, ramming—even the ground trembled slightly beneath it.
"All of you can just drop dead!"
Chen Shu grinned. He hadn't realized his Slime had gotten this strong.
When the Charge skill's effect ended, the Slime stopped in place, completely motionless.
The Ice Marrow Beetles thought their chance to counterattack had arrived. They swarmed in and started gnawing with their sharp fangs.
Crack!
A crisp sound rang out—and the beetles' fangs shattered instantly. They were utterly bewildered.
What the hell IS this thing?
The Slime kept snoring away. Once Charge came off cooldown, it transformed into a devastating missile once more!
The Ice Marrow Beetles panicked immediately, letting out shrill screeches.
"Scream! The louder you scream, the more excited I get!"
Chen Shu wore an evil grin. Xie Sunan and Xu Xingxing both stared at him with strange expressions.
Is he... unleashing his true nature?
Realizing this enemy was unbeatable, the Ice Marrow Beetles fled into the distance.
Snore... snore...
The Slime dozed off mid-pursuit, chasing them relentlessly while half-asleep.
Chen Shu pulled a small shovel from his backpack and harvested the Snow Lotuses.
These were the primary ingredient for ice-attribute potions.
Just then, Xie Sunan's expression shifted. "Chen Shu, someone's behind us!"
Several hundred meters away, Tang Lie's squad had been approaching stealthily. They'd spotted Chen Shu's Slime from a distance.
"Get on the bird!"
The three immediately leaped onto the Mutant Thunder Bird's back.
Almost simultaneously, a massive tail swept toward them. The Thunder Bird barely dodged in time.
"That fast?"
Tang Lie was slightly stunned. He had no idea they'd already been detected by Xie Sunan.
"Young Master Tang, resorting to sneak attacks now?"
Chen Shu grinned. He hadn't expected Tang Lie to be this underhanded.
According to the competition rules, if anyone faced a life-threatening crisis, a Black Iron-rank Beast Tamer would intervene to save them—but they'd also be eliminated.
And "life-threatening crisis" didn't just mean fierce beasts. Rival squads counted too!
"Hmph! Your crisis awareness is decent. You won't be so lucky next time!"
Tang Lie felt a pang of regret but wasn't afraid of Chen Shu.
After all, his team had three people—and only Chen Shu had any real combat ability.
As long as they stalled the Slime, his Wind Runner Beast could attack the trio directly. Wind Binding was specifically designed to counter the Mutant Thunder Bird.
"I'm afraid there won't BE a next time!"
Chen Shu's eyes rolled as a thought struck him. Then he broke into a grin: "Let me gift Young Master Tang an avalanche—just to liven things up!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The Slime abandoned its pursuit of the Ice Marrow Beetles and began ramming the nearby cliff face with everything it had.
The snow packed on the mountainside began to tremble, looking ready to slide.
"Holy shit! You motherf—!"
Tang Lie and his two teammates jolted in alarm, immediately bolting in another direction.
Moments later, the snow on the peaks began to slide. Faster and faster, it pulled the surrounding snow with it, spreading across multiple mountains.
An actual avalanche had started!
RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE!
The terrifying roar of collapse echoed everywhere. Even Chen Shu shuddered, quickly recalling his Slime.
Heaven and earth seemed to hold nothing but that thunderous roar. More and more snow broke loose, sliding down.
Chen Shu hadn't expected to cause THIS much destruction.
In reality, Frost Canyon experienced a major avalanche every few years. The time was almost due anyway—Chen Shu had just... accelerated things slightly.
"Dammit, I knew this bastard was up to no good!"
High above, Shen Wushuang stood atop a powerful Ice Phoenix, gazing down at the avalanche below.
The Black-White Python was only a defensive contract spirit. His true combat power came from his first contract spirit: an S-rank Ice Phoenix!
"Looks like more people are about to be eliminated!"
Shen Wushuang watched the scene unfold, utterly unmoved. His job was to protect Chen Shu's trio.
But as the one who'd started it all, how could Chen Shu possibly be in any danger?
The Thunder Bird's speed was incredible. It carried the three of them far from the chaos below.
Wang Yun looked panic-stricken. "Crap! Young Master Tang, what do we do?!"
"What do we do?! I'll tell you what the hell we do!"
Tang Lie was panicking just as badly. He started screaming at the top of his lungs: "HELP! SAVE US!"
His Wind Runner Beast wasn't like the Mutant Thunder Bird—it couldn't carry three people. If even one of them got eliminated, the whole squad was finished.
In the distance, a six-person Beast Taming Corps was making their way through.
A middle-aged man cursed: "What the fuck?! Today's definitely NOT avalanche day! Which disaster magnet triggered it early?!"
"Find a cave in the cliff wall, quick!"
The Corps sprang into action. Frost Canyon's cliff walls were riddled with caves—most of them fierce beast dens.
As long as they found shelter before the avalanche hit, they'd be fine.
With their contract spirits' power, they could easily dig out afterward.
But without a cave? That was a different story.
The force of an avalanche could sweep ordinary people right off the mountain. The unlucky ones died on the spot; the lucky ones fell unconscious—unable to summon their contract spirits.
Experienced Corps who frequented Frost Canyon knew the drill. They quickly located nearby caves.
But the Special Training Class students had no idea what to do.
Watching the terrifying avalanche bearing down, Tang Lie managed only one phrase: "What the—!"
The Spirit Suppression Army soldier shadowing his squad finally intervened, pulling them to safety.
Besides Tang Lie's squad, three other squads were also eliminated.
Chen Shu's single avalanche had wiped out half the class...
---
The trio arrived at a safe location.
Achoo!
Chen Shu couldn't help but sneeze. "Damn, am I really that weak now?"
The rumble of the avalanche still echoed in Xie Sunan's ears.
He muttered, "I think it's because too many people are cursing you right now!"[1]
Xu Xingxing nodded in deep agreement.
"..."
Chen Shu hadn't expected to cause such a massive scene either. He shrugged: "The snow is guilty—nothing to do with me!"
[1] Sneeze Superstition: In Chinese folklore, sneezing means someone is talking about you—or cursing you. Given how many enemies Chen Shu just made with that avalanche, Xie Sunan jokes the sneezes must be from an overwhelming number of people badmouthing him.
