Chapter 640 Silent Travel Companion
Chapter 640 Silent Travel Companion
Stellagosa pointed casually in a direction obscured by layers of vines and giant ferns.
"That's the direction of Dire Maul. Are you sure you want to go there?"
Alvin looked in the direction Stella's finger was pointing, and indeed he could feel that there seemed to be some kind of mist with the scent of magic dust in that direction.
Alvin took a deep breath of the humid and hot air, tightened the belt around his waist, and took the staff in his hand as a hiking pole.
"Okay, I'll explore the way ahead, and you follow me closely."
After saying that, he took the lead in pushing aside a bunch of unknown leaves with sharp serrated edges, then bent down and crawled in.
Stellagosa followed silently a few steps behind him, like an elegant and distant blue ghost.
They were now deep in the untouched jungles of Feralas.
The trees here are truly giants, with some so large that it takes dozens of people to hug them and some reaching up into the sky.
The dense canopy of trees overlapped layer upon layer, almost completely blocking the sky. Only a few scattered rays of bleak sunlight could stubbornly penetrate, casting mottled and broken spots of light on the ground covered with rotten leaves and slippery moss.
The air was saturated with water vapor and was as hot as a steamer. All kinds of strange-shaped and brightly colored fungi grew wildly on tree roots and fallen dead trees.
Thick vines hang down from branches like giant pythons, or crisscross the ground, requiring careful avoidance at every step.
The air was filled with a constant buzzing, hissing, and rustling sounds, as if countless pairs of eyes were peering in the shadows.
Alvin was sweating profusely after walking for a while. His precious robe of Eternal Light was scratched by the branches, leaving several holes on his body, and his exposed skin was covered with dirt and grass.
The path was rough, and he often had to use his hands and feet to climb up slippery tree roots or pass through tangled vines.
Alvin gasped and looked back, only to find that Stellagosa, who was not far behind him, seemed to be from a completely different world.
Her exquisite blue robe seemed to have an invisible force field. The mud could not touch it at all, and the sharp leaves and thorns would automatically and subtly avoid her or become soft when she approached.
She walked lightly, her toes occasionally even tapping lightly on the moss or protruding stones on the ground, making almost no sound, as if she was strolling in the woods rather than trudging.
Elegant, so elegant, how did you do it?
In order to break the suffocating silence and ease his own embarrassment, Alvin began to try to find a topic.
"This damn place is even harder to get through than the Vale of Stranglethorn."
"..."
"Stella, do you blue dragons all have this little trick to keep your clothes dust-free?"
"..."
"Come to think of it, when you were looking for dragon eggs before, did you ever go to a similar place?"
"Ah."
Alvin tried to make small talk, but it was a one-sided exchange. Stellagosa either didn't respond or just said "hmm".
Alvin finally gave up, shut his mouth, and put all his energy into dealing with the seemingly endless green maze in front of him.
The only sound between the two was Alvin's heavy breathing and the sound of his feet stepping on the slippery humus.
Suddenly, Alvin pushed aside a bunch of extremely lush plants with all his strength. He thought there was more jungle behind it, but he suddenly stepped on empty air!
There is no ground under my feet in front of me, but a bottomless cliff crack!
"Ah!" he
With a cry of surprise, he lost his balance and fell forward.
In the blink of an eye, a cold little hand suddenly grabbed his wrist from behind and stopped his fall.
Alvin turned around in shock and saw that Stellagosa had approached him at some point, taking his hand and pulling him back steadily.
"Thank...thank you, Stella! I owe you another life!"
Alvin leaned against the safety of the cliff, his heart pounding and his voice trembling.
Stellagosa simply let go of her hand silently, still without saying a word, as if she had just casually brushed away a fallen leaf.
Looking at his own miserable state, the bottomless cliff in front of him and the primitive jungle behind him that seemed to be able to swallow everything, a feeling of powerlessness surged into Alvin's heart.
He smiled bitterly and muttered to himself: "I was quite confident, but I didn't expect it would be so difficult to move forward in a place like this..."
Stellagosa looked at him silently for a few seconds before finally speaking.
Her cool voice was particularly clear in the sweltering jungle: "Since you know it's difficult, why don't you give up? It's not too late to turn back now."
Alvin shook his head and wiped the sweat and mud from his face.
"No."
"There are many things you may not understand, but what I want to say is that Cho'gall must be stopped. He and the Twilight's Hammer behind him are aiming for far more than just a city or a piece of land. They serve an Old God capable of destroying the entire world. Every second he remains at large could lead to innocent victims, and he could be closer to awakening unspeakable horrors. The opportunity is right before me, and I cannot let it slip away just because the road ahead is difficult."
Stellagosa gazed at his determined profile and remained silent for a longer time.
The various sounds in the jungle seemed to have become much quieter at this moment.
Finally, she sighed almost inaudibly.
"never mind."
As she spoke, she took a step forward, past Alvin, and faced the dense, impassable jungle.
She raised her hands, and her slender fingertips began to dance with a piercing blue cold light.
The surrounding temperature dropped suddenly, and the sultry humidity instantly condensed into white icy mist.
She chanted a brief and ancient dragon language rune, and then a visibly cold wind gushed out from her palm!
Alvin knew that this was a highly concentrated torrent of frost magic.
Just as I was wondering, I discovered that wherever the cold wind passed, the scenery was spectacular.
Everything that had been standing in front of them, blocking their way, whether it was the giant tree that required several people to hug, the tough vines that had been entangled for who knows how many years, or the bushes that were several feet thick, was completely frozen the moment it came into contact with the cold current.
Immediately afterwards, a powerful thrust followed, and the frozen obstacle was like being hit by an invisible hammer, exploding into shimmering ice crystal powder flying all over the sky!
"Boom--!"
A series of loud noises of freezing and shattering echoed through the jungle.
In just a few breaths, a straight "ice passage" wide enough to accommodate three people passing side by side was forcibly opened up!
The walls and ground of the passage were covered with a layer of smooth and solid ice. All obstacles had been completely removed, leaving only the crystal ice surface reflecting the faint light coming through the gaps in the treetops, forming an extremely abrupt and shocking contrast with the lush and vibrant primitive jungle around it.
Stellagosa lowered her hand, not even turning back, and simply uttered two words in a cold voice:
"Follow."
Alvin stared in amazement at the passage before him, which had been created by Miss Blue Dragon in the most direct way. He then looked at Stellagosa's slender figure in front of him, who seemed to possess endless power. After a while, he muttered:
"As expected of a Blue Dragon! Awesome! Wait for me!"
