Chapter 1016 Supplies
Chapter 1016 Supplies
The backyard of Hongyun Tea House.
Sixteen waitresses stood together, talking in hushed tones, as Ai Cao and Zhang Yunhe walked out of the teahouse.
The chatter gradually subsided, and all 16 pairs of eyes were fixed on them.
Zhang Yunhe walked up to the group of women and asked, "Three days have passed, and not a single one of you has come to see me. Does this mean you've all decided to come to Hong Kong with me?"
"I'll ask one more time, is there anyone who doesn't want to go and wants to stay?"
One of the girls said, "Sir, there's no need to ask. We have no relatives here. You, Ai Cao, and my little nephew are our relatives. We are all willing to go to Hong Kong with you!"
The women all chimed in.
Seeing this, Zhang Yunhe said, "Alright, we'll head to Hong Kong in three days. During these three days, you should continue training the new boss's waitresses and try to get them up to speed within three days. Also, pack your own luggage and valuables!"
"Don't bring the city government's banknotes with you. They won't be accepted in Hong Kong. Give them all to Ai Cao and have her exchange them for silver dollars or gold bars at the bank and in the market these next few days!"
"Alright, that's all for now, let's all go!"
After the women dispersed, bodyguard Xiao Chen quickly walked over, clasped his hands in greeting, and said, "Sir, the three small steamships are ready and have been moored at the shore of the small fishing village on the south bank of the estuary. I've left two brothers there to keep watch!"
Zhang Yunhe nodded upon hearing this: "Well done. Also, send two more people to the dock to keep an eye on the French cargo ships. Make sure nothing goes wrong. If anything happens, report to me immediately so we can make other plans!"
"understand!"
In the afternoon, Zhang Yunhe used a radio in his room in the backyard of the teahouse to send a telegram to Fan Biao, who was hiding in the countryside and mountains outside the city.
The radio in Fan Biao's hands was sent by Zhang Yunhe, along with three other people: a telegraph operator, a gunsmith, and an officer.
The officers were responsible for training Fan Biao's men in military skills and mastering the radio codebook; the gunners were responsible for teaching Fan Biao's men how to fire and throw grenades, and for repairing firearms malfunctions; the radio operator was responsible for communication between Fan Biao and Zhang Yunhe.
In a mountain village 50 kilometers northwest of Shanghai, two soldiers in training uniforms stand guard outside the gate of a house, while the sounds of drills can be heard from the threshing ground not far away.
In a room in the courtyard, the telegraph operator was wearing headphones and turning the channel knob when suddenly he heard radio waves. He immediately picked up a pen and wrote down the radio wave numbers he heard on a blank piece of paper.
A few minutes later, the telegram was received. The telegraph operator immediately took the paper with the numbers written on it, stood up, walked to the door, and said to the guard, "Go find Instructor Li quickly and tell him that a telegram has been sent from above!"
"Yes!"
A few minutes later, a tall man in his thirties, wearing a training uniform and military boots, strode into the yard.
"Xiao Sun, where's the telegram?"
Telegraph operator Xiao Sun handed the telegram paper with the Morse code to Instructor Li: "Here it is!"
Instructor Li received the telegram, immediately returned to his room, closed the door, sat down at his desk, took out a codebook from his pocket, and then took out a pen to translate the code into text.
The telegram was translated in just a few minutes.
Instructor Li carefully read through the telegram, then folded it up and stuffed it into his pocket. He then burned the digital codebook with a match, put it away, and left the room, heading straight for the threshing ground.
At this moment, Fan Biao was supervising his team members' training on the threshing ground.
Instructor Li walked to the edge of the threshing ground and made a hand gesture to Fan Biao.
Upon seeing this, Fan Biao immediately said to his team members, "Alright, take a 10-minute break!"
After arranging the team members, Fan Biao immediately turned around and walked towards the edge of the threshing ground.
"Old Li, what did Mr. A say in his telegram?"
Instructor Li took a telegram out of his pocket and handed it to Fan Biao: "Take a look for yourself!"
Fan Biao looked embarrassed and said, "Old Li, you know I can't read, so just tell me directly!"
Instructor Li nodded, unfolded the telegram, and read aloud: "Captain Fan, Instructor Li, at 10:00 PM tonight, we will receive airdropped supplies at the open area south of Erlong Mountain. Please gather dry firewood and light a bonfire beforehand to guide the transport plane to the airdrop location!"
After Instructor Li finished reading, Fan Biao smiled and said excitedly, "I was just worried about the brothers' ammunition and supplies for next month, and I didn't expect Mr. A to send the telegram so punctually!"
"Once we receive the supplies, the brothers' shooting and grenade throwing training can continue!"
Instructor Li put away the telegram, nodded, and said, "Good. The brothers have been training for two months now. In another month, they will basically complete their basic training. In the next month, we need to ensure the brothers' nutrition and also increase their shooting, grenade throwing, and various tactical training!"
"Old Fan, tonight is our first time receiving airdrop supplies. I'll go with you guys so we can discuss anything if anything comes up!"
Fan Biao laughed and said, "That would be perfect!"
The open space south of Erlong Mountain is twelve miles away from Kaoshan Village, where Fan Biao's guerrilla team is stationed. In the afternoon, Fan Biao sent six of his men with guns, ammunition and dry rations to scout the situation and collect firewood to build a firewood pile.
Around 8 p.m., one of the team members who had been sent out to scout returned and reported that everything was normal. Fan Biao and Instructor Li immediately gathered the guerrillas and drove oxcarts, horse-drawn carts, and dozens of mules and donkeys to the south side of Erlong Mountain.
They arrived at their destination at 9:20 p.m. It was winter, and the north wind was blowing, cutting the guerrillas' faces like knives, but their morale was high.
"Captain!" Fan Biao shouted.
A short, stocky man in his thirties ran over carrying a Mauser pistol.
Fan Biao issued the order: "Your unit is responsible for maintaining vigilance within a two-mile radius, especially at all intersections. If anyone approaches, no matter who they are, detain them immediately!"
"If you discover any Japanese soldiers or unidentified forces, do not act rashly. You must first send someone to report to me and Instructor Li, understand?"
"Yes, Captain!" the First Captain replied.
"Go!"
Instructor Li rolled up his sleeves and glanced at his watch. It was 9:30. He said to Fan Biao, "Old Fan, there's still half an hour. Have the brothers spread out and not gather together. If they gather together and are shelled by the Japanese, the casualties will be heavy. Organize into squads, provide mutual cover and vigilance, and disperse around the open area. Each squad should assign someone to observe the sky and make sure no one gets hit on the head by the airdropped supplies!"
"You're so experienced! I'll arrange it right away!"
