Chapter 807 Anger
Chapter 807 Anger
Asuma was completely enraged by the Third Hokage's words. He abruptly interrupted the Third Hokage, roaring, "How can one be qualified?! How can one understand?! As the Hokage, you should know everything!"
"Bastard!"
During the argument, the Third Hokage suddenly struck, slapping Asuma hard across the face. The crisp sound of the slap echoed in the office, startling everyone.
Asuma, clutching his burning cheek, stared at his father in shock, his eyes filled with disbelief. The Third Hokage, somewhat regretful after the fight, offered no explanation, simply puffing on his pipe, his face a mask of complex emotions.
"I hate you!" Asuma's voice was filled with pain and anger. "I don't need a father like this! I hate Konoha, I'm leaving!"
After saying that, Asma turned around without looking back, flung open the office door, and rushed out.
"Asuma!" Upon seeing this, Shinku instinctively wanted to chase after him, but was stopped by the Third Hokage.
The Third Hokage sighed and waved wearily.
"Fine, let him go." The Third Hokage's voice carried a hint of helplessness. "He's already a Chunin, it's time for him to grow independently. Perhaps leaving Konoha and experiencing some trials will be beneficial for him."
Zhang Hai witnessed the entire argument between the father and son. He knew that while Asuma's personality issues certainly played a part, he himself was also partly to blame. He gestured for Shinku to leave with him, giving the father and son some space.
However, just as Zhang Hai and Zhen Hong reached the door, they unexpectedly encountered someone.
"Lord Danzo," Shinku greeted respectfully.
Danzo's gaze fell on Zhang Hai, a barely perceptible glint of cold light flashing in his eyes. He recognized Zhang Hai, but remained silent, simply staring at him coldly.
Zhang Hai's resentment towards Danzo was long-standing. Recalling Danzo's attempt to assassinate him, his anger was uncontrollable. He blocked Danzo's path, his tone icy as he questioned, "Lord Danzo, during the Konoha defense, I neither saw any of your Root members nor did I see you. May I ask, were you on a mission?"
Upon hearing this, Danzo's eyes flashed with a sinister glint.
"Are you questioning me?" Danzo retorted, his tone unfriendly and carrying the imposing aura of a superior.
Zhang Hai bluntly admitted, "Yes, I am questioning you."
Danzo sneered, his eyes filled with disdain.
"You're not qualified," Danzo said coldly. "My actions don't need to be reported to you. Get out of my way!"
Seeing the tense atmosphere between the two, Zhen Hong quickly grabbed Zhang Hai's clothes and shook his head to signal him. He knew Danzo's power and influence and didn't want Zhang Hai to get into trouble because of this.
In the end, out of respect for Zhen Hong, Zhang Hai snorted and stepped aside. He knew now was not the time to break ties with Danzo; he had more important things to do.
After leaving the Hokage's office, Zhang Hai's face remained gloomy, his eyes flashing with anger. He complained to Zhen Hong beside him, "If you hadn't stopped me, I would have definitely shown that old bastard Danzo my swordsmanship!"
Shinku shook her head helplessly and reminded him, "Yoru, calm down. Drawing your sword in front of the Hokage's office, do you think you won't get locked up again?"
Although Zhang Hai was angry, he understood that Zhen Hong had a point. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his anger.
Although Shinku also disliked Danzo's way of doing things, he explained to Zhang Hai the necessity of Danzo's existence in Konoha.
“Danzo represents the dark side of Konoha,” Shinku said in a deep voice. “He deals with matters that the Hokage cannot show up in person, or even that cannot be exposed to the light. He is the ‘root’ of Konoha.”
Shinku further pointed out that under the Third Hokage's control, Konoha could not have developed to its current state without Danzo. This is because Danzo was able to resolve many unspoken problems, allowing Konoha to maintain a facade of light and order.
Zhang Hai raised a question: "Everyone has selfish desires, and no one is willing to remain a 'root' in the shadows forever. What if one day this 'root' develops its own ideas, wants to break free from control, or even turns against Konoha?"
Shinku confidently stated, "With the Third Hokage around, Danzo can't cause any trouble. Everything he does is under the Third Hokage's control." Shinku's trust in the Third Hokage was beyond question.
Zhang Hai was silent for a moment, then suddenly asked a question: "Zhen Hong, do you know about 'that experiment'?"
Upon hearing this, Shinku's expression changed drastically, a hint of tension flashing in his eyes. He lowered his voice and hurriedly asked, "What experiment?!"
Zhang Hai did not answer directly, only saying, "If you don't know, then forget it." He then revealed that he had previously used the Divide Technique to attach himself to Danzo and, through soul monitoring, learned that Danzo had repeatedly mentioned the progress of an experiment in the Hokage's office, and that this experiment required time.
Zhen Hong looked at Zhang Hai with complicated emotions and sighed.
"That experiment..." Shinku's voice was soft, tinged with seriousness, "...is known to no more than five people in Konoha. You must keep it a secret, Yoru, absolutely no one can know!"
Seeing Zhen Hong's serious expression, Zhang Hai became even more curious. He nodded, indicating that he would keep the secret.
Seeing the intense thirst for knowledge in Zhang Hai's eyes, Zhen Hong finally decided to reveal some information.
“That experiment… was about ‘Wood Release’,” Shinku said slowly, her voice heavy with emotion.
"Wood Release?!" Zhang Hai was taken aback upon hearing this. He hadn't expected Konoha to be researching the First Hokage's bloodline limit—Wood Release! This forbidden experiment sounded more like the work of Orochimaru, that madman, than something done by the Konoha leadership. He was extremely surprised, and countless questions welled up in his mind.
Upon hearing Zhen Hong's explanation, Zhang Hai suddenly understood. He recalled Orochimaru's warning not to kill Danzo, realizing there must be some unknown connection between the two.
"It seems that Orochimaru was definitely aware of the Wood Release experiment, and may even have been in contact with Danzo all along," Zhang Hai secretly deduced. "Danzo's experiment was very likely conducted under his remote command."
Shinku's expression was solemn as he continued, "With war raging everywhere, all nations are researching how to utilize the power of the Tailed Beasts. If Konoha can master the First Hokage's Wood Release, they can fight against the Tailed Beasts and gain an advantage on the battlefield." His tone carried a hint of heaviness, but also a touch of anticipation for the future.
"Did Lady Tsunade know about this?" Zhang Hai asked.
